Mossend EuroTerminal

Mossend International Railfreight Park (previously known as Mossend Railhead) is a freight-handling station in Mossend, Scotland. It is situated across the line from the Mossend EuroTerminal.

Mossend railway station served the town of Mossend, North Lanarkshire, Scotland, from 1843 to 1962 on the Wishaw and Coltness Railway.

Mossend is a small town in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, located on the A775 road to the immediate east of its 'sister town' Bellshill, west of the villages of Holytown and New Stevenston, north of the larger town of Motherwell and south of the Eurocentral industrial park and the M8 motorway. Along with Holytown, it forms a council ward which had a population of 13,480 in 2019, Mossend's estimated population being around half of that total.The town is the site of two railway freight terminals: Mossend International Railfreight Park and Mossend EuroTerminal. The yard is primarily used by DB Cargo UK. Mossend formed around the steel industry, with Clydesdale Steel Works once dominating the east end of the town. It is also home to the Mossend Football Club, a local community football club for children from the age of 6 to 21 years old.

Eurocentral is one of the largest industrial estates in Scotland, situated on the edge of Holytown and Mossend, North Lanarkshire, just off the M8 motorway, about 12 miles (19 kilometres) east of Glasgow city centre and 34 mi (55 km) west of Edinburgh. The nearest communities to the estate are Holytown, Mossend, Chapelhall, Calderbank and Carnbroe. The closest major towns are Bellshill 4 mi (6 km), Motherwell 4 mi (6 km), Coatbridge 4 mi (6 km) and Airdrie 4+1⁄2 mi (7 km). There is a bus link to and from Glasgow city centre and Livingston, West Lothian. Eurocentral has warehouse distribution centres, factories, call centres, a railfreight centre which links with Grangemouth docks 28 mi (45 km) to the north east, England to the south and beyond to mainland Europe. The estate also has a large modern hotel/restaurant (Dakota). One of the landmarks of the Eurocentral are the so-called "Big Heids" which are three red upturned shipping containers with tubes making the shape of human heads.The Maxim Office Park is a recent addition opening in March 2010. With 10 buildings totalling over 756,000 sq ft (70,200 m2). Built in a single phase, Maxim is also the UK’s largest speculatively built office park.

Bellshill Central Parish Church is a Parish church of the Church of Scotland, serving the around 70% of the town of Bellshill, North Lanarkshire - including Bellshill town centre, Mossend, Milnwood and Orbiston. It is within the Church of Scotland's Presbytery of Hamilton.

Carnbroe is a neighbourhood in Coatbridge, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. A former industrial village, Carnbroe is located southeast of Coatbridge and southwest of neighbouring Airdrie. It lies above a meander of the North Calder Water, which flows around it in a steep gorge. Once it was a collier village and had large ironworks, the Calder Iron Works, which was built in 1838 immediately to the north, on the opposite bank of the river. It closed in 1921 and the village grew to occupy that site. Carnbroe now has a primary school, a grocery store, and a private nursery. The neighbourhood underwent a major extension, expanding over the North Calder Water, where further housing estates were built, as well as a state-of-the-art community centre. This also gave access to the village from Whifflet. Earl Grove Estate is in Greenend. Carbroe's village status is a hotly contested topic. Noted local philanthropist Prof. Mark Cowan weighed into the debate by declaring that " when Sikeside is your neighbour you'd want to be a village too". Prof. Cowan's sentiment was also echoed by the defacto mayor of Carnbroe Philip "pip" DiNardo who stated that "it's aye been a village by the way". However statistics show that 71.3% of Coatbridgians believe Carnbroe is merely "another scheme" albeit with better, roughcasted houses.In 2016 it was announced that due to the expansion of the A8 and M8 roads, Carnbroe would be the first village to benefit from a state-of-the-art Community Unification New Terrain Scheme. The whole village will be annexed and digging will begin to lift the whole village and move it to the nearby Chapelhall. Sadly though in 2019 Carnbroe was informed of the sad passing of their beloved local philanthropist professor Mark Cowan.Carnbroe is noted as the last resting place of Professor Cowan, best known for his studies of the flora and fauna of the Lanarkshire cave network.

The Greenlink Cycle Path is a cycle path in North Lanarkshire that is a direct route running from Strathclyde Country Park to Motherwell Town Centre. The path is 7 kilometres (4.3 miles) in length. The Greenlink project was established in 2005, and was part of a 3-year partnership between many organisations, such as North Lanarkshire Council, Scottish Natural Heritage and Forestry Commission Scotland.

Forgewood is a suburb in the north-west of the town of Motherwell, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It consists mainly of housing and low-rise flats, with the majority of them now 'modernised'. Some of the older-looking flats have since been demolished. Even though Forgewood is a small residential area of Motherwell, it does contain various local services, such as a pharmacy, a post-office and a convenience store, as well as a community centre which was rebuilt in 2016. To the south-east of Forgewood is the secondary school Braidhurst High School that serves the area. Braidhurst has a school roll of around 600 pupils; comedian Tam Cowan is a former pupil. The West Coast Main Line by-passes near the suburb, but customer service trains stop one-mile south-east at Motherwell railway station. The A721, which links to Bellshill and Wishaw, passes by Forgewood, with bus services to and from Glasgow stopping there. The Greenlink Cycle Path fringes the northern edge of Forgewood and is known locally as "doon the back roads" or "the nine arches", referring to the Braidhurst Viaduct which carries the Motherwell to Cumbernauld Line railway over the South Calder Water between Motherwell and Whifflet stations.

The Monkland Canal was a 12+1⁄4-mile-long (19.7 km) canal designed to bring coal from the mining areas of Monklands to Glasgow in Scotland. In the course of a long and difficult construction process, it was opened progressively as short sections were completed, from 1771. It reached Gartcraig in 1782, and in 1794 it reached its full originally planned extent, from pits at Calderbank to a basin at Townhead in Glasgow; at first this was in two sections with a 96-foot (29 m) vertical interval between them at Blackhill; coal was unloaded and carted to the lower section and loaded onto a fresh barge. Locks were later constructed linking the two sections, and the canal was also connected to the Forth and Clyde Canal, giving additional business potential. Maintaining an adequate water supply was a problem, and later an inclined plane was built at Blackhill, in which barges were let down and hauled up, floating in caissons that ran on rails. Originally intended as a water-saving measure to be used in summer only, the inclined plane was found to pass barges more quickly than through the locks and may have been used all the year. In the second and third decades of the nineteenth century, technical advances in iron smelting coupled with fresh discoveries of abundant iron deposits and coal measures encouraged a massive increase in industrial activity in the Coatbridge area, and the Canal was ideally situated to feed the raw materials and take away the products of the industry. The development of railways reduced the competitiveness of the canal, and eventually it was abandoned for navigation in 1952, but its culverted remains still supply water to the Forth and Clyde Canal. Much of the route now lies beneath the course of the M8 motorway, but two watered sections remain, and are well stocked with fish.

New Stevenston is a village situated between Motherwell and Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Most local amenities are shared with the adjacent villages of Carfin, Holytown and Newarthill which have a combined population of around 20,000 across the four localities.

Bellshill Maternity Hospital was a health facility at Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, Scotland.

Bellshill railway station is a railway station in the town of Bellshill, North Lanarkshire, Scotland. The station is managed by ScotRail and served by Argyle Line and Shotts Line services. The station is adjacent to Bellshill Main Street, on Hamilton Road, and was opened by the Caledonian Railway as part of the Cleland and Midcalder Line on 1 May 1879. West of the station, the Glasgow, Bothwell, Hamilton and Coatbridge Railway crossed with a second station in the town to the north west - this ceased to carry passengers back in 1951. The line through the station was electrified as part of the 1974 West Coast Main Line project. Although it is situated east of the Shotts Line's junction with the WCML south of Uddingston, electric trains can reach Motherwell using a chord line to the route from Coatbridge Central and Mossend which passes beneath the Shotts route east of the station (these lines being wired to allow electric access to the yard at Mossend and to allow goods trains to avoid the busy Motherwell area).
