The Graycliff estate was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1926, and built between 1926 and 1931. It is approximately 17 miles southwest of downtown Buffalo, New York, at 6472 Old Lake Shore Road in the hamlet of Highland-on-the-Lake, with a mailing address of Derby. Situated on a bluff overlooking Lake Erie with sweeping views of downtown Buffalo and the Ontario shore, it is one of the most ambitious and extensive summer estates Wright designed. It is now fully restored and operates as a historic house museum, open for guided tours year round (with reduced activity during the winter). There is also a summer Market at Graycliff, free and open to the public on select Thursday evenings. Graycliff Conservancy is run by Executive Director Anna Kaplan, who was hired in 2019.

In the first quarter of the 20th century, many wealthy Buffalo families (i.e. Larkin, Kellogg, Schoellkopf, Mann, Trubee, Esty, Schmidt, Coit) built their summer estates there, including one called "Graycliff" designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for the family of Darwin Martin, an executive at the Larkin Soap Company. Also at Derby is the historic First Church of Evans Complex.

First Church of Evans Complex is a historic Presbyterian church complex located at Derby in Erie County, New York. The 5.5-acre (2.2 ha) property includes the church, cemeteries, farmhouse (manse), and historic Ingersoll barn with later additions that serves as a community clubhouse. The church is an eclectic Colonial Revival style structure designed by Buffalo architects Mann and Cook and constructed in 1915. The original cemetery includes graves that predate the congregation's founding in 1818.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.

Pioneer Cemetery, also known as Evans Center Cemetery, is a historic cemetery located at Evans Center in Erie County, New York. It consists of 10 to 11 rows of burials, with the oldest dating to 1810. The majority of the burials date between 1810 and 1860, with the most recent burial in 1928. Most are marked with simple tablet headstones. It features hilly terrain with a prominent rise at the center of the cemetery.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2012.

The Angola Horror train wreck occurred on December 18, 1867, just after 3 p.m. when the last coach of the Buffalo-bound New York Express of the Lake Shore Railway derailed at a bridge in Angola, New York, United States, slid down into a gorge and caught fire, killing approximately 49 people. At the time, it was one of the deadliest train wrecks in American history.
