Heolddu Comprehensive School is a school located in the town of Bargoed, South Wales, and serves the town of Bargoed as well as the villages of Deri, Aberbargoed, Tir-Phil, Cascade, Gilfach, Tredegar and Brithdir in the Caerphilly LEA. The school has 700 pupils and 40 teaching staff.

Bargoed (Welsh: Bargod) is a town and community in the Rhymney Valley, Wales, one of the South Wales Valleys. It lies on the Rhymney River in the county borough of Caerphilly. It straddles the ancient boundary of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire, with Bargoed lying in Glamorgan and Aberbargoed in Monmouthshire. 'Greater Bargoed', as defined by the local authority Caerphilly County Borough Council, consists of the towns of Bargoed and Aberbargoed and the village of Gilfach. The combined population of these settlements is about 13,000. The town's rugby club Bargoed RFC holds the world record for the most consecutive league wins in a row and was World Rugby magazine's team of the year in 2005. The town’s football team AFC Bargoed who also hold a rich history are currently rebuilding and have a good young squad, finishing 2nd in the TERV Premier League 2022

Darran and Deri railway station was situated on the Brecon and Merthyr Junction Railway, serving the adjoining village of Deri and the nearby Darran Colliery. It was located at 20 miles 08 chains from Newport. The line was built and owned partly by the Rhymney Railway and partly by the Brecon and Merthyr Railway, the boundary between the two companies lying a short distance north of Darran and Deri. The line passed to the Great Western Railway in 1923 and to British Railways (Western Region) in 1948.The station opened on 1 September 1868 and passenger services were withdrawn from 31 December 1962. Goods and mineral traffic continued until 1965, but coal traffic passed the station site until final closure of the line in 1975. This portion of line was double track and the station had up and down platforms, with a goods yard on the eastern side as well as connections to local collieries. The passenger service consisted in the 1960s of about ten trains a day in each direction, of which four ran between Brecon and Newport.The former railway route is now part of the National Cycle Network (route 469), with an access point at Deri village.

Bargoed railway station serves the town of Bargoed in the county borough of Caerphilly, South Wales. It is a stop on the Rhymney branch of the Valley Lines network. It is located close to the Bargoed Interchange bus station.

The Rhymney Valley (Welsh: Cwm Rhymni) is one of the South Wales valleys, with the Rhymney River forming the border between the historic counties of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. Between 1974 and 1996 a Rhymney Valley local government district also existed (one of six of Mid Glamorgan). The valley encompasses the villages of Abertysswg, Fochriw, Pontlottyn, Tir-Phil, New Tredegar, Nelson, Aberbargoed, Rhymney, Ystrad Mynach and Llanbradach, and the towns of Bargoed and Caerphilly.

Aber Bargoed railway station was a small railway station in the valleys north of Cardiff. Opened as Aber Bargoed by the Brecon & Merthyr Junction Railway, the station went through several changes of name before closure. Despite the similarity in the name it is not the Bargoed station now open on the line to Rhymney.

Bargoed Interchange (Welsh: Cyfnewidfa Bargod) is a bus station located in the town centre of Bargoed, South Wales. It is situated near the High Street.

Deri is a village in Caerphilly County Borough, Wales. 'Deri' is Welsh for oak trees. Deri along with Pentwyn and Fochriw make up the community of Darran Valley. The village grew around the Industrial Age to serve the collieries of Fochriw, Pencarreg and Groesfaen. It was served by Darran and Deri railway station until its closure.

Gilfach is the small district that lies between Bargoed and Pengam, situated in the Caerphilly county borough, seven miles north of Caerphilly, within the historic boundaries of Glamorgan, Wales. The Bargoed ward had a population of 2,062 at the 2011 census.The name Gilfach is derived from the Welsh words cil (nook) and bach (small). Gilfach is the smallest of the three Electoral wards that make up Greater Bargoed (along with Bargoed and Aberbargoed). Gilfach has many institutions, such as the Welfare Hall, Workingmen's Club, Scout Hall, and a YMCA building. There is also a bowling green and tennis courts. As with many villages and towns through Britain, Gilfach has a War Memorial to the fallen of both world wars situated in the Garden of Peace. There are two primary schools in Gilfach: Gilfach Fargoed Primary School, which teaches through the medium of English; and Ysgol Gymraeg Gilfach Fargod, which teaches through the medium of the Welsh language. Gilfach has two places of worship: St. Margaret's parish church Ainon Baptist Church.The village has two public houses the Gwerthonor Hotel now called Butters Bar and The Capel Hotel. Gilfach has other businesses situated in the village, such as Hancox Pies ,M&M Barbers, Best One convenience store and soon a tattoo shop. The Bowling club burnt down in 2022.The village is served by Gilfach Fargoed railway station. The Village has a Taxi service (Gilfach Taxis).

Gilfach Fargoed railway station is a railway station serving the village of Gilfach, in Caerphilly county borough, south Wales. It is a stop on the Rhymney Line of the Valley Lines network. The platforms are short (16 m or 52 ft) and can barely accommodate a British Rail Class 153 train, due to its small size it is affectionately nicknamed "Gilfach International". Passengers can only alight from the front doors of any train calling here, so the conductor on longer trains must give passengers advance notice so that they have time to move towards the front set of doors.

Aberbargoed is a town in the County Borough of Caerphilly, Wales. Aberbargoed once contained the largest ever colliery waste tip in Europe, although this has now been reclaimed and turned into a country park. The town is within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire.

Brithdir is a small village in the northern part of the Rhymney Valley near New Tredegar, in the county borough of Caerphilly, south Wales, and within the historic boundaries of Glamorgan. It was formed in the early twentieth century to provide housing for men working at the local coal mines including Elliot's colliery. Centuries before Brithdir was constructed a stone was erected on the mountain top above the village to mark the burial place of Tegernacus, son of Martius. The stone, believed to have been placed in the 7th century, was originally in a field north west of Capel Brithdir. However, in 1922 the Tegernacus Stone was moved to the National Museum Cardiff where it remains on display. The village is served by Brithdir railway station. Kieron Evans (born 2001), footballer for Cardiff City F.C., was born in Brithdir, but went to school in Bargoed.
