Deri, Caerphilly

Darran and Deri railway station was situated on the Brecon and Merthyr Junction Railway, serving the adjoining village of Deri and the nearby Darran Colliery. It was located at 20 miles 08 chains from Newport. The line was built and owned partly by the Rhymney Railway and partly by the Brecon and Merthyr Railway, the boundary between the two companies lying a short distance north of Darran and Deri. The line passed to the Great Western Railway in 1923 and to British Railways (Western Region) in 1948.The station opened on 1 September 1868 and passenger services were withdrawn from 31 December 1962. Goods and mineral traffic continued until 1965, but coal traffic passed the station site until final closure of the line in 1975. This portion of line was double track and the station had up and down platforms, with a goods yard on the eastern side as well as connections to local collieries. The passenger service consisted in the 1960s of about ten trains a day in each direction, of which four ran between Brecon and Newport.The former railway route is now part of the National Cycle Network (route 469), with an access point at Deri village.

Ogilvie Village Halt railway station served the village of Deri, Caerphilly, Wales on the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway. The site of the halt does not appear on os maps but was likely in private ownership. Nothing remains of the halt.

Groesfaen Colliery Platform railway station served the workers at Groesfaen Colliery near the town of Bargoed, Caerphilly, Wales on the Brecon and Merthyr Tydfil Junction Railway. The site of the platform does not appear on OS maps and the station was only for workers at the nearby colliery. Nothing remains of the platform or colliery and the station site has since been reused by the A469. The station was considered for closure before formulation of the Beeching cuts report The Reshaping of British Railways, and was closed before the publication of that report in March 1963.

Cefn y Brithdir is the name given to the broad ridge of high ground between the Rhymney Valley (Welsh: Cwm Rhymni) and Cwm Darran in the Valleys region of South Wales. It lies within the unitary area of Caerphilly. The northwest–southeast aligned ridge whose top surface is plateau-like, achieves a height of 477m at the summit of Pen Garnbugail (OS grid ref SO 100037). There are significant subsidiary tops of 446m to the southeast at OS grid ref SO 114049 and, to the north, of just over 460m at Mynydd Fochriw (OS grid ref SO 099047). To the south it drops away to the confluence of the Nant Bargod Rhymni with the Rhymney River. To the northwest it falls to a broad saddle at around 360m between Pontlottyn and Fochriw. Much of its western flanks are afforested with conifer plantations. There are numerous cairns, house platforms and other archaeological features scattered across the area. A Roman road is recorded as crossing the eastern slopes of Pen Garnbugail.

Darran Valley (Welsh: Cwm Darran) is a community in the County Borough of Caerphilly, Wales. The Darran Valley consists of the valley of the Bargod Rhymni and contains the villages of Deri, Pentwyn and Fochriw. These settlements grew around the Industrial Age to serve the collieries of Fochriw, Pencarreg and Groesfaen. As of 2001, the community had a recorded population of 2,545., increasing to 2,607 in 2011.

Tir-Phil is a village near the town of New Tredegar in the Caerphilly county borough of south Wales. The village of Tir-Phil and New Tredegar itself are served by Tir-Phil railway station. Tir-Phil was also an electoral ward to Rhymney Valley District Council between 1973 and the council's dissolution in 1996.

Tir-Phil railway station is a railway station serving the village of Tir-Phil and the town of New Tredegar, south Wales. It is a stop on the Rhymney Line of the Valley Lines network. Work to extend the platform to take the proposed six car trains has now been completed.

Heolddu Comprehensive School is a school located in the town of Bargoed, South Wales, and serves the town of Bargoed as well as the villages of Deri, Aberbargoed, Tir-Phil, Cascade, Gilfach, Tredegar and Brithdir in the Caerphilly LEA. The school has 700 pupils and 40 teaching staff.

Troedyrhifuwch Halt railway station co-served the village of Tir-Phil, in the historic county of Glamorgan, Wales, from 1908 to 1916 on the Rhymney Railway.

Bargoed (Welsh: Bargod) is a town and community in the Rhymney Valley, Wales, one of the South Wales Valleys. It lies on the Rhymney River in the county borough of Caerphilly. It straddles the ancient boundary of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire, with Bargoed lying in Glamorgan and Aberbargoed in Monmouthshire. 'Greater Bargoed', as defined by the local authority Caerphilly County Borough Council, consists of the towns of Bargoed and Aberbargoed and the village of Gilfach. The combined population of these settlements is about 13,000. The town's rugby club Bargoed RFC holds the world record for the most consecutive league wins in a row and was World Rugby magazine's team of the year in 2005. The town’s football team AFC Bargoed who also hold a rich history are currently rebuilding and have a good young squad, finishing 2nd in the TERV Premier League 2022

New Tredegar (Welsh: Tredegar Newydd) is a former mining town and community in the Rhymney Valley, Caerphilly county borough, Wales, within the historic boundaries of Monmouthshire. New Tredegar is now home to 'The Winding House', a county museum which opened in 2008. It is controlled by CCBC Museums service and the Friends of the Winding House community group. The area is rich in the mining heritage of the South Wales mining industry. The area is supported by two primary schools; White Rose Primary school and Phillipstown Primary school. The area also contains a number of religious buildings including; Saint Dingat's Church and the Presbyterian Church of Wales. Along with other parts of Rhymney, New Tredegar had Welsh speakers in the community the Welsh-only monuments in the local cemetery testify to the strength of the language locally in the first quarter of the 20th century.

Abertysswg railway station was a station which served Abertysswg, in the Welsh county of Glamorgan. It was served by trains on the line from Pengam (Mon) to Rhymney Lower & Pontlottyn.
