Diekirch District

Heiderscheid (German pronunciation: [ˈhaɪdɐʃaɪt]; Luxembourgish: Heischent) is a small town in northwestern Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Wiltz, which is part of the district of Diekirch. It was previously its own commune but was merged into Esch-sur-Sûre (alongside Neunhausen) in 2011. As of 2025, the town of Heiderscheid had a population of 729.

The Wiltz (Luxembourgish: Wolz, [volts] ) is a river flowing through Belgium and Luxembourg, joining the Sauer at Goebelsmuhle. The Clerve is a tributary of the Wiltz.

Goebelsmuhle (Luxembourgish: Giewelsmillen, German: Goebelsmühle) is a village in the commune of Bourscheid, in north-eastern Luxembourg. As of 2006, the village had a population of 17, which subsequently increased to 34 by 2019. Nearby is the confluence of the Sauer and the Wiltz. It is served by Goebelsmuhle railway station, which lies on Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois' Line 10.

It is operated by Chemins de Fer Luxembourgeois, the state-owned railway company. The station is situated on Line 10, which connects Luxembourg City to the centre and north of the country.

Merscheid (Luxembourgish: Mëtscheed) is a village in the commune of Esch-sur-Sûre, in north-western Luxembourg. Bourscheid (Luxembourgish: Buerschent [ˈbuːɐ̯ʃənt] ; German: Burscheid) is a commune and small town in north-eastern Luxembourg. It is part of the canton of Diekirch, which is part of the district of Diekirch. As of 2005, the town of Bourscheid, which lies in the centre of the commune, had a population of 266, which subsequently increased to 466 by 2021. Other settlements within the commune include Goebelsmuhle, Lipperscheid, Michelau, Schlindermanderscheid, and Welscheid. Bourscheid Castle located close to the village is Luxembourg's largest and one of the most important medieval castles between the Meuse and the Rhine.

Schlindermanderscheid (Luxembourgish: Schlënnermanescht) is a village in the commune of Bourscheid, in north-eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, the village had a population of 165, which subsequently decreased to 137 by 2019. It has the longest town name in Luxembourg.

Oberfeulen (Luxembourgish: Uewerfeelen) is a small town in the commune of Feulen, in central Luxembourg. As of 2005, the town has a population of 277.

Welscheid (Luxembourgish: Welschent) is a village in the commune of Bourscheid, in north-eastern Luxembourg. As of 2005, the village had a population of 145, which subsequently increased to 204. Welscheid is connected to the cycling path PC16 with a short serpentine road to Bourscheid.

Bourscheid Castle (French: Château de Bourscheid, German: Burg Bourscheid, Luxembourgish: Buerg Buerschent) is located near the village of Bourscheid in north-eastern Luxembourg. The medieval castle stands on a site with archeological evidence of structures dating back to Roman times. Standing majestically some 150 metres (490 ft) above the River Sûre, it is enclosed by a circular wall with 11 watchtowers.

Lehrhof (German pronunciation: [ˈleːɐ̯hoːf]; Luxembourgish: Léierhaff) is a village in northwestern Luxembourg. It has a population of 19 as of 2025. Since September 2023, Lehrhof is situated in the commune of Groussbus-Wal. It was previously located in the commune of Grosbous.
