Lozza was conquered in the early Middle Ages by the Lombards and later by the Franks to become part of the Archbishopric of Milan around 1200. In 1648 the Castiglioni di Lozza family took control of the town, and Count Marco Fabrizio built a summer resort there.

From Largo Ennio Flaiano through the village of the neighborhood Bizzozero ends at the border of Lozza. Includes the initial part of the Provincial Road 233 Varesina. On this road lies the Ospedale di Circolo e Fondazione Macchi and Campus Bizzozero (University of Insubria).

The Battle of Varese was fought on 26 May 1859 at Varese (Lombardy). It was an engagement of the Second Italian War of Independence, fought between the Italian volunteers formation of the Hunters of the Alps, led by Giuseppe Garibaldi, against Austrian troops led by Karl von Urban. The Austrian defeat allowed the movement of the Hunters towards Como, and obliged the Austrians to keep troops on the northern part of the front.

Torba Abbey, otherwise Torba Monastery (Italian: monastero di Torba, abbadia di Torba) is a former Benedictine nunnery in Torba, a frazione of Gornate Olona, Lombardy, Italy, in the Castelseprio Archaeological Park. The buildings are part of a list of structures associated with "Longobards in Italy, Places of Power (568–774 A.D.)", that is dating to the Lombard era of the early middle ages. The abbey was entered on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in June 2011.
