Montauban Cathedral

The siege of Montauban (French: siège de Montauban) was a siege conducted by the young French king Louis XIII from August to November 1621, against the Protestant stronghold of Montauban. This siege followed the siege of Saint-Jean-d'Angély, in which Louis XIII had succeeded against Rohan's brother Benjamin de Rohan, duc de Soubise.Despite a strength of about 25,000 men, Louis XIII was unable to capture the city of Montauban, and he had to raise the siege and abandon it after 2 months. After a lull, Louis XIII resumed his campaign with the siege of Montpellier, which ended in stalemate, leading to the 1622 Peace of Montpellier, which temporarily confirmed the right of the Huguenots in France.The city would be finally captured in 1629, in the Redition of Montauban.

Montauban (US: , French: [mɔ̃tobɑ̃] ; Occitan: Montalban [muntalˈβa]) is a commune in the Tarn-et-Garonne department, region of Occitania, Southern France. It is the capital of the department and lies 50 kilometres (31 mi) north of Toulouse. Montauban is the most populated town in Tarn-et-Garonne, and the sixth most populated of Occitanie behind Toulouse, Montpellier, Nîmes, Perpignan and Béziers. In 2019, there were 61,372 inhabitants, called Montalbanais. The town has been classified Ville d’art et d’histoire (City of art and history) since 2015. The town, built mainly of a reddish brick, stands on the right bank of the Tarn at its confluence with the Tescou.

The Musée Ingres Bourdelle (In English: Ingres Bourdelle Museum) is located in Montauban, France. It houses a collection of artworks and artifacts related to two famous artists natives of that town, painter Jean Auguste Dominique Ingres and sculptor Antoine Bourdelle, as well as their own collections and other works of art.

The Monument aux Morts de Montauban is an 1894 bronze sculpture by Antoine Bourdelle. His romantic vision of the monument generated many violent oppositions. Auguste Rodin's intervention in 1897 enabled Bourdelle to do this sculpture without any compromise. The monument was erected in Montauban, in the department of Tarn-et-Garonne, in 1902.

Communauté d'agglomération Grand Montauban is the communauté d'agglomération, an intercommunal structure, centred on the city of Montauban. It is located in the Tarn-et-Garonne department, in the Occitania region, southern France. Created in 1999, its seat is in Montauban. Its area is 280.9 km2. Its population was 78,505 in 2019, of which 61,372 in Montauban proper.

The Diocese of Montauban (Latin: Dioecesis Montis Albani; French: Diocèse de Montauban) is a Latin Church diocese of the Catholic Church in France. The diocese is coextensive with Tarn-et-Garonne, and is currently a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Toulouse. The episcopal seat of the Diocese of Montauban is in Montauban Cathedral. Suppressed under the Concordat of 1802 and divided between the three neighbouring dioceses of Toulouse, Agen, and Cahors, Montauban was re-established by imperial decree of 1809, but this measure was not approved by the Holy See. Re-established by the Concordat of 1817, the diocese did not receive a bishop approved by the Papacy until 1824.

The Tescou (French: Le Tescou) is a tributary of the Tarn in the basin of the Garonne in southern France. It flows 48.8 kilometres (30.3 mi) through the departments of Tarn, Tarn-et-Garonne and Haute-Garonne.The source is near Gaillac in the Massif Central, and its confluence with the Tarn is near Montauban in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie administrative region. In 2014 construction work began on the Sivens Dam (Barrage de Sivens), to supply irrigation for local farms.On 25 October 2014, Rémi Fraisse, a 21-year-old student protesting against the Sivens Dam across the Tescou, was killed after being hit in the back by a grenade, sparking further violent protests.

The arrondissement of Montauban is an arrondissement of France in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region. It has 92 communes. Its population is 179,474 (2016), and its area is 2,116.8 km2 (817.3 sq mi).

The Canton of Montauban-3 is one of the 15 cantons of the Tarn-et-Garonne department, in southern France. Since the French canton reorganisation which came into effect in March 2015, the canton covers the southeastern part of the commune of Montauban.
