Valdastico

Spitz di Tonezza is a mountain of Veneto, Italy. It is located on the Asiago Plateau, in the Vicentine Alps, and has an elevation of 1,694 metres (5,558 ft).It lies east of Monte Toraro and Monte Campomolon, overlooking the town of Tonezza del Cimone. Its south side is wooded and easily accessible, whereas the rocky northern face is rugged and vertical.The mountain was heavily contested between Italy and Austria-Hungary during World War I.

Fort Verena (Italian: Forte Verena) was an Italian fortress built between 1910 and 1914 to defend the Italian border with the Austro-Hungarian Empire (along the border line that can currently be located between the province of Vicenza and Trentino) at an altitude of 2,019 metres (6,624 ft) on the summit of the mountain of the same name. The fortress is located in the municipal territory of Roana, and it overlooks the steep cliffs of the valley below, the Val d'Assa. At 3:55 AM on May 24, 1915, the first two cannon shots were fired from Fort Verena by the Italian forces, marking the entry of the Italian Royal Army into the war. On June 12, 1915, the fortress was hit and destroyed by a 305 mm Skoda shell that penetrated the structure and exploded inside. On May 22, 1916, during the Spring Offensive, the position was captured by Austro-Hungarian troops, who held it for the rest of the war.

The Austro-Hungarian fortress of Lavarone (in Trentino), better known as Forte Belvedere Gschwent, (German: Werk Gschwent) stands at an altitude of 1177 metres south of the Oseli subdivision on a rocky spur that extends towards the Valdastico and the Rio Torto valley, dominating its headlands. The fort belongs to the large system of Austro-Hungarian fortifications on the Italian border.

The Vicentine Alps (Italian: Prealpi Vicentine; German: Vizentiner Alpen, Vicentiner Alpen or Vizentiner Voralpen) are a mountain range of the Eastern Alps in Trentino and the provinces of Verona and Vicenza. Monte Toraro is a mountain of Veneto, Italy. It is located on the Asiago Plateau, in the Vicentine Alps, and has an elevation of 1,897 metres (6,224 ft). During the First World War Toraro was the location of an Italian howitzer battery, and was captured by Austro-Hungarian troops during the battle of Asiago.During the Cold War, radars and command posts for a nearby Nike missile base (Base Tuono) were built on its top. They were blown up after the base ceased operations in the late 1970s.

Roana (Cimbrian: Robàan) is a comune in the province of Vicenza, Veneto, Italy. It is west of SP249 road. The comune consists of six villages or frazioni, spread over a total area of 7,838 hectares: Camporovere, Canove, Cesuna, Mezzaselva, Roana and Tresché Conca. It is one of the Sette Comuni Vicentini where the Cimbrian language was traditionally spoken. In Roana is the Istituto di Cultura Cimbra, with a museum.
