Dunfermline (Scottish Gaelic: Dùn Phàrlain, Scots: Dunfaurlin) was a local government district in the Fife region of Scotland from 1975 to 1996, lying to the south-west of the regional capital Glenrothes.

Saline is a village and parish in Fife, Scotland, situated 5 miles (8.0 km) to the north-west of Dunfermline. It lies in an elevated position on the western slopes of the Cleish Hills. At the 2001 census the population was 1188, a decline from the 1235 recorded in the 1991 census. The village has a primary school, a parish church and a golf course. The glen runs from the bottom of the main street through to neighbouring Steelend. The civil parish has a population of 1,762 (in 2011) and an area of 8,757 acres.The village is dominated to the east-north-east by Saline Hill, 359 meters OD, with a hill fort on the eastern summit. The smaller hill to the south of east at Bandrum has a standing stone on the peak.

Carnock (Scottish Gaelic: A' Chàrnaich) is a village and parish of Fife, Scotland, 4+1⁄4 miles (7 kilometres) west of Dunfermline. It is 1+1⁄4 miles (2 kilometres) east of Oakley, Fife. The name of the village derives from Scottish Gaelic, from ceàrn ("corner"), with a suffix denoting a toponym, thus giving "[the] corner place". Carnock is known to have had military significance in antiquity. The civil parish had a population of 5,927 as of 2011.

Oakley United Football Club are a Scottish football club based in Oakley, Fife. Formed in 1964, they play their home games at Blairwood Park. The club's colours are maroon and light blue. The team plays in the East of Scotland Football League, having moved from the SJFA East Region South Division in 2018.In season 2005–06, they won the Fife District championship to gain promotion to the East Superleague, having been relegated from the same division in season 2004–05. At the end of season 2006–07 they were relegated from the East Superleague. The team has been managed since November 2018 by Stewart Kenny until he joined Hill o’beath in summer 2023.

Oakley (Fife) railway station served the village of Oakley, Fife, Scotland from 1850 to 1986 on the Stirling and Dunfermline Railway.

Comrie ( locally or ); is a village in Fife, Scotland, located immediately west of the neighbouring village of Oakley, 6.2 miles (9.98 km) west of Dunfermline on the A907. In 2019 it had an estimated population of 810, including one young man by the name of Yates Barlow - renowned for eating his piece down the cycle track when feigning full time employment.

Gowkhall (for a period known as Balclune) is a hamlet in Fife Scotland, 3.6 miles (5.794 km) west of Dunfermline. The nearest village of size is Carnock 0.8 miles (1.287 km) to the west, which has a church and primary school. To the south there is the Dean Woods past which is the village of Crossford, which has two hotels and businesses.

Oakley is a village in Fife, Scotland located at the mutual border of Carnock and Culross parishes, Fife, 5+1⁄2 miles (9 kilometres) west of Dunfermline on the A907. The village was built in connection with the Forth or Oakley Ironworks (1846), now all gone along with the colliery industry. The ironworks, which ceased production many years ago, had six furnaces, with stacks 180 feet (55 metres) high, and the engine-house was built with walls to comprise 60 cu ft (1.7 m3) of stone below the surface of the ground. Subsequent to their use in the ironworks, the buildings were used as a sawmill producing rough timber for railway sleepers, fence posts and the like. Comrie Colliery closed in 1986, and the village took many years to recover from this major employer's demise.

Knockhill Racing Circuit is a motor racing circuit in Fife, Scotland. It opened in September 1974 and is Scotland's national motorsport centre. The circuit is located in the countryside about 6-mile (9.7 km) north of Dunfermline. It is the only FIA approved circuit in Scotland.

Cairneyhill railway station served the village of Cairneyhill, Fife, Scotland from 1906 to 1930 on the Kincardine Line.

Cairneyhill is a village in West Fife, Scotland. It is 3 miles west of Dunfermline, on the A994, and has a population of around 2,510 (mid-2020 est.)The village's architecture is a mix of old weavers' cottages and modern suburban housing estates. The village is located north and west of the A985, a major trunk road that provides fast travel by car or bus to the Kincardine Bridge, the M90 Motorway and the Queensferry Crossing/Forth Road Bridge. The Firth of Forth is located 1.5 miles south of Cairneyhill, which is 1 mile (1.6 km) west of Crossford.

Aldie Castle is an historic building east of Crook of Devon, Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is a Category A listed building. This three storey tower house dates to the early 16th century. A two-storey extension was made and a separate parallel three storey range was built and a link range between. It has a concealed vaulted basement.The castle was the former seat of the Mercers, who acquired it from the Murrays of Tullibardine around 1350. It later passed to the Nairn family and then through marriage to the Lansdowne family. It was restored in the 1950s.
