Upper Stowe

Stowe Nine Churches is a civil parish incorporating the settlements of Church Stowe and Upper Stowe in the English county of Northamptonshire. The population (including Upper Stowe) of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 259.

Stowe Hill Tunnel is a railway tunnel on the West Coast Main Line just south of the village of Weedon, Northamptonshire, England. The tunnel runs in a straight line underneath the A5 main road between Weedon and Towcester from about northwest to southeast. The tunnel has a single bore with twin tracks and is 491 yards (449 m) long. The next station southbound is Wolverton and northbound Rugby. The tunnel was opened in 1838 as a part of the London and Birmingham Railway. During the 2000s, in preparation for the introduction of the British Rail Class 390 tilting trains, which would enable regular operating speeds of 125 miles per hour (201 kilometres per hour) along this section of the line, it was determined that the Stowe Hill tunnel would, without modification, cause such pressure changes to trains traversing it at high speed as to exceed passenger comfort levels. Accordingly, modifications to the tunnel were made in the form of four vertical pressure relief shafts being installed to provide sufficient mitigation; additional land around these new shafts was acquired, in some cases using compulsory purchase orders.The tunnel was close to the site of the Weedon rail crashes in 1915 and 1951 in which a total of 25 people died, though was unconnected with the cause of either.

Church Stowe is a village in West Northamptonshire in England. It is the largest settlement in the civil parish of Stowe Nine Churches (Where the population is included). St Michael's church is notable for the tomb of Elizabeth Danvers and the tower built in Anglo Saxon times. The rest of the church was built in 1639 but includes remains of the medieval church. The east end was rebuilt in 1860According to legend, the site of the church was chosen by a supernatural spirit. It is said that the church's builders found their materials moved to a different location overnight for nine consecutive nights, so they eventually built the church in that location. This is supposedly where the name Stowe Nine Churches derives from.

Grimscote is a hamlet in the civil parish of Cold Higham, in the West Northamptonshire district of Northamptonshire, England. Grimscote is one of 4 settlements (Cold Higham, Fosters Booth (West) and Potcote) that make up Cold Higham parish. According to the 2011 UK census, the population in Grimscote in 2011 was 241. It is understood that the name Grimscote means "Grim's Cott", Grim being another name for Woden.

Litchborough is a historic village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England. At the time of the 2001 census, the parish's population was 300 people, increasing to 321 at the 2011 Census.The villages name probably means, 'enclosure hill'.The manor of Litchborough, and that of nearby Weedon Pinkney, belonged in the fourteenth century to the Wale family, and passed by descent to the Malorre family. More recently, new built housing has increased the number of dwellings to 111 and the population to 449. It is about 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of Towcester, 2 miles off the A5 on the Banbury Road. The Church of England parish church is dedicated to St Martin. The village has an active Village Hall and a popular pub, the Old Red Lion. The village has a well supported Parish Council chaired by Tim Sykes of the Old Rectory, a businessman who chaired the hostel sector hospitality company Beds & Bars. Gareth Lugar-Mawson, a retired High Court Judge who has served in Hong Kong and Brunei, also serves on the Parish Council. Cold Higham is a village and civil parish in Northamptonshire, England. Cold Higham Parish, also includes Fosters Booth (West), Grimscote, and Potcote. It is adjacent to Weedon Bec, Pattishall, Eastcote and Astcote. The A5 runs along the eastern boundary of the parish, along the route of Watling Street, a former Roman road. The parish had a population of 289 at the time of the 2001 census (the 2010 estimated population is 321: 80 in Cold Higham, 241 in Grimscote). The civil parish population had risen to 290 at the 2011 census.The villages name means 'High homestead/village' or 'high hemmed-in land'. 'Cold' for its exposed situation. The village of Grimscote, which is in this parish, means "Grim's Cott", Grim being another name for Woden. One branch of the Higham family has been associated with the village. Thomas Higham is referred to as Squire in the early to mid 18th century. Both Edward Higham the Australian Politician and Tim Higham, also known as Tim FitzHigham are from this branch of the family.

Ramsden Corner Plantation is a 3.2-hectare (7.9-acre) biological Site of Special Scientific Interest west of Northampton. It is managed by the Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire.A stream runs through this valley site, which is acidic grassland, woodland and scrub on clay and sand. Plants such as wood millet, wood-sorrel and wood vetch are indicators of ancient woodland. Opposite-leaved golden-saxifrage is found in wet flushes.The Macmillan Way runs along its southern boundary. There is access from Main Street between Farthingstone and Upper Stowe.

Flore House in Flore, Northamptonshire, is a country house of historical significance and is Grade II listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in 1608 for the Enyon family and was the residence of notable people over the next four centuries. Today it provides guest accommodation and caters for special events including weddings.

Flore (historically spelled as Floore) is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire in England. The village's name means 'Floor', perhaps referring to a Roman tessellated pavement. South of the neighbouring parish of Nether Heyford such a pavement has been unearthed. Alternatively, it may refer to the situation of the village in the valley bottom of the River Nene.The A45 road divided the upper part of the village from several older, lower streets until a bypass opened on 15 November 2018. The historical village of Glassthorpe lay in the vicinity. The population at the 2001 census was 1,221, falling to 1,194 at the 2011 census.The Grade II listed Flore House was built in 1608 for the Enyon family. The thatched cottage in Flore called Adams Cottage (location) is said to be the home of the ancestors of John Adams, the second President of the United States of America.

Weedon Bec, usually just Weedon, is a village and parish in West Northamptonshire, England. It is close to the source of the River Nene. The population of the civil parish at the 2011 census was 2,706.

Nether Heyford is a village and civil parish in West Northamptonshire, England, close to the M1 motorway and the A5 and A45 roads, 6 miles (10 km) west of Northampton and 70 miles (113 km) northwest of London. The smaller village of Upper Heyford is about half a mile to the north. Nether Heyford takes its name from 'Hay ford'. Alternatively, 'hedge ford' or enclosure ford'. In 1086, in the Domesday Book, the name is recorded as "Heiforde". The Post Office once called the village Lower Heyford, but the name was restored to Nether Heyford after reference to it in local deeds. The village is on the flood plain of the River Nene and used to be subjected to flooding, as Watery Lane suggests. In 1699, a Roman pavement was found in Harestone Meadow to the east of the village.

Weedon railway station was located to the north of Weedon Bec in Northamptonshire, England on the West Coast Main Line. It was a junction station, being the starting point of the Weedon to Leamington Spa branch line, with one bay platform dedicated for terminating branch line trains.
