Stourport power stations

The Stour (, rhymes with "flour") is a river flowing through the counties of Worcestershire, the West Midlands and Staffordshire in the West Midlands region of England. The Stour is a major tributary of the River Severn, and it is about 25 miles (40 km) in length. It has played a considerable part in the economic history of the region.

The Tontine Buildings is a former hotel in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, built in the late 18th century by the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal Company. It is a Grade II* listed building.

Stourport Swifts Football Club are a football team from Stourport-on-Severn, and one of the oldest non-league teams in the country. The Swifts currently play in the Midland League Premier Division, and play at Walshes Meadow in the town.

Droitwich Spa Football Club is a football club representing the town of Droitwich Spa, Worcestershire, England. They are currently members of the Midland League Division One and played at King George V Fields until 2017. For the 2017/18 season they ground shared with Stourport Swifts F.C. at Stourport Swifts' Walshes Meadow. The club returned to Droitwich during the 2022/23 season with the completion of redevelopment work at their King George V ground. The ground was officially opened on 10th November 2022 by former England national football team player and manager, Kevin Keegan [1]. The team are known as 'The Saltmen'.

Stourport-on-Severn, often shortened to Stourport, is a town and civil parish in the Wyre Forest District of North Worcestershire, England, a few miles to the south of Kidderminster and downstream on the River Severn from Bewdley. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 20,292.

Stourport Civic Centre is a municipal building in New Street in Stourport-on-Severn, a town in Worcestershire, in England. The building, which is currently used as a public events venue, is owned by a community group.

Stourport-on-Severn railway station was the main station in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, England. The station, originally named 'Stourport', opened on 1 February 1862 as part of the Severn Valley Railway. It had two platforms and a passing loop from opening. It was renamed Stourport-on-Severn in October 1934, possibly to avoid confusion with the nearby town of Stourbridge.The station closed when passenger services between Hartlebury and Bewdley were withdrawn on 5 January 1970. Although the line to Hartlebury remained open to coal traffic to the former Stourport Power Station until 1982 when it was closed after closure of the power station.The site is now occupied by housing development although there is a footpath on the former line to Hartlebury and towards the former Stourport Power Station. The trackbed towards Bewdley is now hemmed in by modern development and no longer traceable other than near Bewdley end.

Areley Hall is a Grade II listed country house near Areley Kings in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, England. It is not to be confused with nearby Astley Hall, the former home of Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin. In the area there are several large manor and country houses, among which Witley Court, Astley Hall, Pool House, Areley Hall, Hartlebury and Abberley Hall (with its clock tower) are particularly significant. Areley Hall mainly dates from the late 16th century, though extensive alterations were carried out in the 1820s and 1870s. It is largely timber-framed with some brick additions. Inside, the staircase and the roof structure suggest that substantial parts of the original structure survive, though fireplaces and other internal detail relate to the 19th century improvements. Areley Hall was Grade II listed in 1950.

Hartlebury Common is an area of lowland heath in north Worcestershire, England, situated just outside the town of Stourport-on-Severn. Hartlebury Common and Hillditch Coppice are a biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest which covers an area of 90.2 hectares (229 acres). The common supports many varieties of wild plants and insects, especially butterflies and moths. Hartlebury Common and Hillditch Pool are a Local Nature Reserve.The common is easily accessed from several small car parks and popular with horse riders, walkers, joggers and naturalists. There are waymarked trails for walkers and horse riders such as the heather trail and horse route.

The Stourport High School & VIth Form Centre, formerly known as the Stourport High School and Language College, opened to students in 1956 as an 11-18 school. The starting age was increased to 13 during the 1970s, but reverted to 11 in 2007 as part of the Wyre Forest Review. The school is located in the town of Stourport-on-Severn in Worcestershire, England. It was built to replace the Stourport Secondary Modern School, which was formerly Lickhill Middle.

Areley Kings is a Worcestershire village on the River Severn 10 miles north of Worcester in the picturesque area of the Wyre Forest. The area is featured in the Domesday Book and many historical places of interest, like Areley Hall, are open to visitors. Nearby Stourport-on-Severn grew during the Victorian era and is still very popular with tourists and holiday makers all year round for canal and river cruising and for the many well signed walks through some of the finest Worcestershire countryside.
