Methlick (Gaelic: Maothulach) is a village in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated on the River Ythan 11.2 kilometres (7.0 mi) north-west of Ellon.

It was built in 1861-1862 to commemorate George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen, and is a grade C(S) listed building. North Ythsie Farmhouse is grade B listed, and South Ythsie Farmhouse is grade C(S) listed. Australian politician John Hay (1816-1892) was born at Little Ythsie, which lies to the east of the hamlet.

Tolquhon Castle ( ta-HOON) is located in Aberdeenshire, north-east Scotland. It lies about 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north-west of Pitmedden, and 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Tarves. The castle was built by William Forbes, 7th Laird of Tolquhon, between 1584 and 1589 as an extension to the earlier tower house known as Preston's Tower. Although ruined, the castle has been described as "the most characteristic château of the Scots Renaissance". It is in the care of Historic Scotland and is open to the public.

Ythanbank is a village in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is situated on the east bank of the River Ythan on the B9005, 4 miles (6.4 km) north-west of the town of Ellon. The village is at an elevation of 70-foot (21 m) above sea-level.

Pitmedden Garden is a garden in the town of Pitmedden, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is owned by the National Trust for Scotland. It is the largest surviving parterre in Scotland and dates from around 1675.

Formartine (Scottish Gaelic: Fearann Mhàrtainn meaning "Martin's land") is a committee area in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This district extends north from the River Don to the River Ythan. It has a population of 36,478 (2001 Census). The committee area was formed in 1996 from part of the former district of Banff and Buchan. Formartine has experienced rapid population growth, particularly around Ellon and Oldmeldrum, and in the south east where development has spread outwith the city of Aberdeen. By contrast, the area around Turriff retains strong dependency on the traditional agricultural economy. The area's coastline and rural environment offer recreation potential including the Formartine and Buchan Way.
