Methlick (Gaelic: Maothulach) is a village in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, situated on the River Ythan 11.2 kilometres (7.0 mi) north-west of Ellon.

Gight is an estate in the parish of Fyvie in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland. It is best known as the location of the 16th-century Gight (or Formartine) Castle, ancestral home of Lord Byron.

New Deer (Scottish Gaelic: Achadh Reite) is a settlement in Aberdeenshire, North East Scotland, which lies in the valley of Deer. It is located at the junction of several roads crossing through the Howe of Buchan. It was founded after monks from Deer Abbey, Old Deer, built a chapel at Auchreddie, which translates as "field of the bog myrtle", and lies clustered on both sides of the slope of a tributary of South Ugie Water. Around 1507 the register of Deer Abbey lists its lands in the "new paroche of Deir". The name Auchreddie has dropped in significance over the years; however, the southern end of the village is still known by this name.In 1805, New Deer was extended to the north by the third James Ferguson of Pitfour (1735–1820), the elder brother of Patrick Ferguson. Also involved were the Gordons of Cairnbanno, who were seeking to improve the old community of Auchreddie.

Formartine (Scottish Gaelic: Fearann Mhàrtainn meaning "Martin's land") is a committee area in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. This district extends north from the River Don to the River Ythan. It has a population of 36,478 (2001 Census). The committee area was formed in 1996 from part of the former district of Banff and Buchan. Formartine has experienced rapid population growth, particularly around Ellon and Oldmeldrum, and in the south east where development has spread outwith the city of Aberdeen. By contrast, the area around Turriff retains strong dependency on the traditional agricultural economy. The area's coastline and rural environment offer recreation potential including the Formartine and Buchan Way.

Barthol Chapel is a small village in the Formartine area of Aberdeenshire, Scotland, named after the Catholic saint, St Bartholomew. Barthol Chapel has a school with a very small football pitch, and a church. The local language is Doric language of North East Scotland. The nearest villages are Methlick, Fyvie, Oldmeldrum and Tarves.

Ythsie is a hamlet in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, about one mile east of Tarves. To the north of the hamlet, on the Hill of Ythsie, is a tower called the Prop of Ythsie. It was built in 1861-1862 to commemorate George Hamilton-Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen, and is a grade C(S) listed building. North Ythsie Farmhouse is grade B listed, and South Ythsie Farmhouse is grade C(S) listed. Australian politician John Hay (1816-1892) was born at Little Ythsie, which lies to the east of the hamlet.
