MareNostrum (Catalan: [ˌmaɾəˈnɔstɾum], Spanish: [ˌmaɾeˈnostɾun]) is the main supercomputer in the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. It is the most powerful supercomputer in Spain, one of thirteen supercomputers in the Spanish Supercomputing Network and one of the seven supercomputers of the European infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe). MareNostrum runs SUSE Linux 11 SP3. It occupies 180 m² (less than half a basketball court). The supercomputer is used in human genome research, protein research, astrophysical simulations, weather forecasting, geological or geophysical modeling, and the design of new drugs. It was booted up for the first time on 12 April 2005, and is available to the national and international scientific community.Mare Nostrum ("our sea") was the Roman name for the Mediterranean Sea. The supercomputer is housed in the deconsecrated Chapel Torre Girona at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, Barcelona, Spain.

The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (Spanish: Centro Nacional de Supercomputación) is a public research center located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It hosts MareNostrum, a 13.7 Petaflops, Intel Xeon Platinum-based supercomputer, which also includes clusters of emerging technologies. In June 2017, it ranked 13th in the world. As of November 2021, it dropped to 74th.

The Penya Rhin Grand Prix was a Grand Prix motor racing event staged at the three different circuits in three different eras in Spain. The race was held intermittently over its history, sometimes for full-size Grand Prix cars, sometimes for sports cars. In the 1920s, it was held at a street circuit in Vilafranca del Penedès. In the 1930s the race was revived at a parkland circuit in Montjuïc. In the 1950s after the war it was held at the Pedralbes Circuit.

The Pedralbes Circuit (Spanish: Circuito de Pedralbes) was a 6.333 km (3.935 mi) street racing course in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.First opened in 1946 in the western suburbs of the city, in the Pedralbes neighbourhood, the course featured wide streets and expansive, sweeping corners; both drivers and racing fans loved the course. The circuit hosted the Penya Rhin Grand Prix four times (1946, 1948, 1950 and 1954.). The circuit also hosted the Spanish Grand Prix in 1951 and 1954 Due to stricter safety rules following the 1955 Le Mans disaster, the Pedralbes Circuit was permanently retired as a racing venue.

The Palau Reial de Pedralbes (Catalan pronunciation: [pəˈlaw rəˈjal də pəˈðɾalβəs]; English: "Pedralbes Royal Palace"; Spanish: "Palacio Real de Pedralbes") is a building placed in the middle of an ample garden in the district of Les Corts, in Barcelona. From 1919 until 1931 it was the residence for the Spanish Royal Family when they visited the city. It houses the Museu de la Ceramica (ceramic museum), Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària and Museu de les Arts Decoratives (interior design museum), both part of the Disseny Hub Barcelona and is the permanent seat of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).

The Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques, in English Graphic Arts Cabinet, is a museum opened in 1942 and located in the Palau Reial de Pedralbes in Barcelona. Together with Museu de les Arts Decoratives and the Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària is part of the Disseny Hub Barcelona.

The Museu de les Arts Decoratives, in English Decorative Arts Museum, is a museum opened on 1932 and located in the Palau Reial de Pedralbes in Barcelona. Created in 1932, this historic museum contains a rich and diverse collection of European decorative arts, from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution. In 1995, the museum extended its boundaries with the incorporation of design, thus converting it into the first and only statewide museum concerned with the preservation and exhibition of Spanish industrial design. The collections of the Museu de les Arts Decoratives were created from an important resource of industrial design and decorative art objects, that included salvers, carriages, furniture, wallpaper, clocks, tapestries and glasswork. Together with Museu Tèxtil i d'Indumentària and the Gabinet de les Arts Gràfiques is part of the Disseny Hub Barcelona.

The Centre Nacional d'Anàlisi Genòmica (in Catalan), Centro Nacional de Análisis Genómico (in Spanish), or simply CNAG, is a genome analysis center in Barcelona that carries out large-scale projects in collaboration with researchers from Catalonia, Spain and the International research community. It has a park of 13 last-generation sequencing systems supported by an outstanding computing infrastructure of 2.6 petabytes of data storage and over 1200 cores of computing, which has enabled the center to build a sequencing capacity of over 800 Gbases/day, the equivalent of completely sequencing eight human genomes every 24 hours. This capacity positions the CNAG as one of the top European centers in terms of sequencing capacity. It is a non-profit organization founded in 2009 by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and the Catalan Government through the Economy and Knowledge Department and the Health Department. It is located in the Parc Científic de Barcelona (PCB) that is one of the largest research clusters in Life Science in Southern Europe. The CNAG takes part in large-scale sequencing projects in areas as diverse as cancer genomics, rare disease gene identification, infectious disease genomics, genomics of model organisms, agrogenomics, epigenomics, modeling of the nucleus, comparative genomics and single cell analysis. New laboratory methods, new sequencing methods and data analytical procedures implemented and developed continuously. The CNAG is certified Illumina CS Pro – Certified Provider and Agilent Exome Sequencing Certified Provider. Since July 2015 its management was transferred to the Centre for Genomic Regulation, becoming an outstation of the latter.

The so-called Pavellons Güell, or Güell Pavilions, is a complex of buildings in the neighborhood of Pedralbes, Barcelona, by the Catalan Modernist architect Antoni Gaudí, built between 1884 and 1887.

The Barcelona School of Informatics (Catalan: Facultat d'Informàtica de Barcelona, FIB; IPA: [fəkulˈtad dimfuɾˈmatikə ðə βəɾsəˈlonə]) is one of the schools of the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Technical University of Catalonia), Spain. It was created in 1976, four years after the establishment of the university. It is located in the north campus, and is the main school for computer science degrees.

The Real Club de Tenis Barcelona - 1899 (meaning Royal Barcelona Tennis Club - 1899) is a private tennis club in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. The facility has 18 clay courts, including a stadium court with a capacity of 8,400 and show court for 2,000 spectators. Since moving to its current location in the northwest of the city in 1953, the club has hosted the Open Godó tournament, a part of the ATP World Tour's 500 Series. Over the years, the club has hosted many Davis Cup ties of the Spanish team, including the Inter-Zonal final in 1965. The first name of the club was Lawn-Tennis Club Barcelona. In 2017, the centre court was named "Pista Rafa Nadal" after the tennis great Rafael Nadal.

The Barcelona Open (currently sponsored by Banc Sabadell) is an annual tennis tournament for male professional players. The event has been held in Barcelona every year from 1953 (except for its cancellation in 2020), and is played on clay courts at the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona. It was an event of the Grand Prix tennis circuit from 1970–1989, except in 1971 when it was part of the World Championship Tennis (WCT) circuit, although it was also open to non-WCT players. The tournament is currently part of the ATP Tour 500 series on the ATP Tour. It is also known as Torneo Godó, Trofeo Conde de Godó, and Open Banc Sabadell. It is Spain's second most important tournament on the ATP Tour after the Madrid Open and the event generally takes place in the last week of April, when temperatures in Barcelona average a daily high of 19 °C (66 °F). Native Spaniard Rafael Nadal has won the singles title a record twelve times (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2021), and in 2017 the center court of the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona was renamed Pista Rafa Nadal (Rafa Nadal Arena).
