Morrinsville

Morrinsville Recreation Ground is a cricket ground in Morrinsville, Waikato, New Zealand. The first recorded cricket match held on the ground came in 1980 when Thames Valley played Bay of Plenty in the 1975/76 Hawke Cup. The ground later held a first-class match in the 1986/87 Shell Trophy when Northern Districts played Central Districts. A second first-class match was held there in the 1988/89 Shell Trophy when Northern Districts played Wellington. First-class cricket hasn't been played there since. A single Youth One Day International was held there in 1988 when New Zealand Under-19s played India Under-19s.

Morrinsville College is a state secondary school located in Morrinsville, Waikato, New Zealand. The school has a roll of approximately 715 students from years 9 to 13 (approx ages 13 to 18) as of April 2023.The school dates back to 1923 when Morrinsville School (established 1877) opened a secondary department and became Morrinsville District High School. The district high school was split into separate primary and secondary schools in 1950, forming the current Morrinsville School and Morrinsville College.

The Waikato Plains (the alternative name Waikato Basin is an ambiguous term as it can refer to the entire river catchment) form a large area of low-lying land in the northwest of the North Island of New Zealand. They are the alluvial plains of the Waikato River, the country's longest river with a length of 425 km (264 mi).

Piako was a flag station, at the junction of SH26 and Horrell Rd, on the former Thames Branch, 2.87 km (1.78 mi) east of Morrinsville and 4.03 km (2.50 mi) west of Tatuanui.The area was owned in succession by politicians: Thomas Gillies William Murray, who built nearby Annandale House about 1881 and planned a township, hoping the Kinleith Branch junction would be here, rather than Morrinsville William Shepherd Allen who built sheep pens and a loading race in May 1890 and stockyards in 1898. The Allen family owned the farm from 1887 to 1920 and still owns Annandale House, which has been a Category 1 listed building since 1989.Work was continuing when the branch opened to Te Aroha. Murray's had a platform, then a shelter was added in 1887. In December 1912 it was renamed Piako, as had been expected when it opened. It closed to passengers on 22 November 1948. The station building was removed in December 1961 and the stock yards in 1968. The site became Murray Oaks Scenic Reserve in 1975.

Motumaoho is a small village in the Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island, just to the west of the Pakaroa Range. It is on SH26, 25 km (16 mi) east of Hamilton and 7 km (4.3 mi) west of Morrinsville. The village is bordered by the Waitakaruru Stream to the east. Motumaoho can be translated as an intruding clump of trees. It once had a cheese factory, post office, railway station and garage, but now has only greenhouses, a school and houses. A hall was open at least from 1917 to 1928.

Mangateparu is a farming service community located close to the west bank of the Piako River, eight kilometres north of Morrinsville in the Waikato region of New Zealand. It has a population of about 400 people. The local school was forced to close in 2004. The name comes from the Māori words "manga", stream; "te", the; and "paru", muddy or deep.The community of Tauhei is located a short distance away to the west.

The Rukumoana Marae is a marae located between the towns of Morrinsville and Kiwitahi. It was built between 1915 and 1917 and used as a parliament house during the Māori King Movement.

Tatuanui is a settlement and rural community in the Matamata-Piako District and Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located north-east of Morrinsville, south-west of Te Aroha, Waihou and Waitoa, and north of Ngarua, at the intersection of State Highway 26 and State Highway 27. The intersection was converted to a roundabout between June and December 2011 for safety reasons.

Radio Waikato was a radio station in Hamilton on 954 kHz AM. The station was first started in 1971 as New Zealand's third privately owned station, the station originally broadcast on 930AM but moved to 954AM in 1978 after New Zealand's AM band frequency spacing was adjusted from 10 kHz to 9 kHz. In 1986 Radio Waikato changed to a country music format and was renamed Country Gold - Waikato 954. In 1988 the station's frequency was sold to Radio Pacific and was then used to broadcast Radio Pacific into the Waikato region with originally local programming but later networked programming from Radio Pacific in Auckland.

Eureka is a rural settlement in the Waikato District and Waikato region of New Zealand's North Island. It is located on State Highway 26, and is surrounded by dairy farmland on a flat plain.There are various explanations for the name. One story suggests William Steele rode out with a syndicate looking for a headquarters, and exclaimed "Eureka I have found it" when he reached the hilltop. Another story suggests "Eureka" is an abbreviation of the first names of the women in the syndicate.The settlement has a war memorial, listing local men who died in World War I and World War II.

Tauwhare is a small rural community in the Waikato District on the outskirts of Hamilton. The Waitakaruru Arboretum and Sculpture Park is located here. There is a Community Committee and a Memorial Hall. The 1902 Cyclopedia of New Zealand noted that Tauwhare had a scattered population, a school, a cheese factory (owned by the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company) and could be reached by coach from Tamahere railway station.

The Sculpture Park at Waitakaruru Arboretum is an arboretum in New Zealand. Situated in a disused quarry near the small village of Tauwhare in the Waikato region, the project to rehabilitate the site was initiated in 1991 by the owners, John and Dorothy Wakeling. They have passed the park over to a charitable trust. The park is now run by the Art-in-Nature Arboretum Trust. The 17.5 ha area contains more than 25,000 trees and shrubs and also houses an outdoor sculpture park, of more than 100 sculptures and installations. The area closer to the quarry cliffs and the enclosed lake has also been used as a site for musical performances.
