Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock

Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock (formerly Haliburton—Victoria—Brock) is a provincial electoral district in Central Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was created in 1999 from parts of Victoria—Haliburton, Durham East, Durham—York and Hastings—Peterborough. When the riding was created it was called Haliburton—Victoria—Brock, and included all of Victoria County, most of Haliburton County, the townships of Brock, Galway-Cavendish and Harvey, Burleigh and Anstruther, Chandos and Cavan, as well as the village of Millbrook. In 2007 it was renamed Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock after Victoria County was renamed Kawartha Lakes. The riding also gained the municipality of Algonquin Highlands, plus the entire municipality of Cavan-Monaghan. It therefore is now identical to the federal riding by the same name.

Selwyn is a township in central-eastern Ontario, Canada, located in Peterborough County. Formerly known as Smith-Ennismore-Lakefield, the township passed a by-law changing its name to Selwyn in 2012. The change became official on January 15, 2013.

Chemong Lake, or Lake Chemong, (pronounced "shi-MONG, from the Anisnaabemowin gchi-maang, meaning "big lake")" is a lake 8 kilometres (5.0 mi) northwest of Peterborough, Ontario, Canada, near the town of Bridgenorth. The lake extends from near Fowlers Corners north to near Curve Lake. Lake Chemong has a length of 14 kilometres (8.7 mi) and a width of 1 kilometre (0.62 mi). Chemong is also a part of the Kawartha lakes water system and the Trent-Severn Waterway.

Curve Lake First Nation (Ojibwe: Oshkiigmong) is a Mississauga Ojibway First Nation located in Peterborough County of Ontario. Curve Lake First Nation occupies three reserves; Curve Lake First Nation 35, Curve Lake 35A, and Islands in the Trent Waters Indian Reserve 36A. The last of these reserves is shared with the Hiawatha First Nation and the Scugog First Nation. Curve Lake First Nation has a registered membership of 2,415 as of October 2019 with 793 registered band members living in Curve Lake and an additional 1,622 registered band members living off-reserve.

Curve Lake First Nation 35 is an Anishinaabe reserve 14 km north of Peterborough, Ontario. It serves as the landbase for the Curve Lake First Nation. The reserve occupies a peninsula located between Lake Chemong and Buckhorn Lake, surrounded by the township of Selwyn, as well as several neighbouring small islands in Buckhorn Lake. The Curve Lake First Nation occupies two reserves (including Curve Lake 35A) and shares a third, the nearby Islands in the Trent Waters, with the Hiawatha First Nation and the Scugog First Nation. Curve Lake First Nation 35 occupies a peninsula between Buckhorn Lake, Lake Chemong, and Little Mud Lake. Curve Lake 35A is on Fox Island in Buckhorn Lake, and Islands in the Trent Waters is on islands in Buckhorn Lake, Pigeon Lake and Stony Lake. Manoomin (wild rice) is an annual plant that grows in the Kawartha Lakes. The seeds ripen in September and fall into the lake to ensure future crops.

The Head of the Trent is the annual rowing regatta and alumni homecoming held at Trent University. The name 'Head of the Trent' refers to activities taking place at both the regatta and the homecoming, including the head races, social events and varsity sports games. It is the only homecoming in North America that features rowing as the hallmark event.The Head of the Trent regatta is a day-long competition of timed trial races where rowers compete to be the quickest through the course, which runs an approximately 5 km length along the Trent-Severn Waterway. It is one of North America's largest single-day, head-race regattas. The Head of the Trent is a notable local event when university alumni return to the city for homecoming festivities. The event also draws prospective students and other visitors to the university campus and to Peterborough, Ontario. This influx of visitors bears a positive impact on the local economy.

Trent University is a public liberal arts university in Peterborough, Ontario, with a satellite campus in Oshawa, which serves the Regional Municipality of Durham. Trent is known for its Oxbridge college system and small class sizes.As a collegiate university, Trent is made up of six colleges. Each college has its own residence halls, dining room, and student government. The student government (Cabinet) and its committees cooperate with the College Office and dons in planning and delivering a variety of events for both its non-resident and resident members: visiting scholars, artists, musicians, scientists; College dinners and dances; Fall and Winter College Weekend; and intramural co-educational competitions in a number of sports. Although Trent University is predominantly undergraduate, graduate programs are offered at the master's and doctoral levels.Trent was founded through the efforts of a citizens' committee interested in creating a university to serve the City of Peterborough and the surrounding counties, and was created by the Trent University Act, 1962–63. The committee recruited Dean Thomas H. B. Symons of the University of Toronto to serve as chair of the academic planning committee and Symons became the university's first president.The Symons campus of Trent, named after founding president Thomas Symons, is located on the banks of the Otonabee River at the northeast corner of the City of Peterborough. The Symons campus plan and its original college buildings, including Champlain College, Lady Eaton College, Bata Library, Chemistry Building, and the Faryon bridge which spans the Otonabee, were designed by Canadian architect Ron Thom. Over 9 000 undergraduate students and over 800 graduate students are enrolled at the Peterborough campus while Trent University Durham GTA serves over 1 900 full- and part-time students at the campus on Thornton Road in Oshawa. The university is represented in Canadian Interuniversity Sport by the Trent Excalibur.

The Riverview Park & Zoo is a park and zoo located in Peterborough, Ontario, Canada. Riverview Park & Zoo began in 1933 when the venue was opened by Ross Dobbin and is now owned by the City of Peterborough (since 1968 operated and maintained by the Peterborough Utilities Group). In addition to its animal exhibits, the zoo features a miniature train ride, a F-86 Sabre fighter aircraft on display and the park contains a disc golf course. Admission and parking is free.

Curve Lake 35A is a First Nations reserve on Fox Island, as well as other adjacent islands including Boyd Island, Joe Island, Red Rock Island and Rottenstone Island, in Buckhorn Lake, Ontario, Canada. It is one of three reserves of the Curve Lake First Nation.

Lakefield College School (sometimes called LCS, The Grove or simply Lakefield) is a private day and boarding school located north of the village of Lakefield, Ontario. It was the first Canadian member of Round Square, an international affiliation of schools.

Katchewanooka Lake is one of the Kawartha lakes in south-central Ontario, Canada. It is about 5 miles (8.0 km) long and .5 miles (0.80 km) wide. The Trent Severn Waterway flows through Lake Katchewanooka into the Otonabee River at its outlet just north of Lakefield, continuing southwest through Little Lake in Peterborough and on into Rice Lake.Lakefield College School lies on the east side of the lake.Susanna Moodie, author of Roughing it in the Bush (1852), lived on a farm on the lake in the 1830s.Although water levels in this lake and others in the Kawartha Lakes system are controlled to some extent by locks and dams, the lakeshore is vulnerable to flooding during the spring run-off period.

Buckhorn Lake is a lake in the townships of Trent Lakes and Selwyn in Peterborough County, Ontario, Canada, and is one of the Kawartha lakes. The primary inflow is from Pigeon Lake through the Gannon Narrows at the west. Secondary inflows are from Chemong Lake through the Harrington Narrows to Harrington Bay at the south, and from Sandy Lake via Sandy Creek to Sandy Creek Bay at the south. A dam and lock 31 of the Trent–Severn Waterway at the community of Buckhorn control the outflow of the lake to Lower Buckhorn Lake at the northeast. It appears that the lake acquired its name as a consequence of its shape, appearing similar in shape to a buck's head with antlers or horns projecting either side, being Pigeon and Chemong Lakes. Buckhorn is also a small town surrounded by the lake. There are a few restaurants in the Buckhorn region and many summer cottages. Settlements on the lake include Buckhorn, the Curve Lake First Nation, Gannon Village, Gannon Beach, Kawartha Hideaway, Kimberley Park, Oak Orchard and Young's Cove.
