Silverdale is a suburb in south-eastern Hamilton in New Zealand. It is east from Hillcrest and home to Hillcrest High School, despite the school's name. Part of Silverdale is covered by the University of Waikato.

Hillcrest High School is a state coeducational secondary school located in south-eastern Hamilton, New Zealand. The school is named after the suburb of Hillcrest for which it serves, although the school itself is actually located in Silverdale. Opened in 1972, the school has a roll of 1758 students as of April 2023. making it the second-largest school in Hamilton.

The Hamilton Seventh-day Adventist School is an integrated co-educational day school in Hamilton, New Zealand, with a comprehensive programme comprising both primary and intermediate education, from Year 0 (new entrants) to Year 8 (form 2). The school is owned and operated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. It provides education in harmony with the beliefs, values, life-style and commitment of the church. Emphasis is placed on the development of a Christian character and a life of service in the community. It is a part of the Seventh-day Adventist education system, the world's second largest Christian school system.The school is run by a board of trustees consisting of: members elected by the parents, Seventh-day Adventist Church proprietor representatives, the Principal, and a staff representative. The school was established on its present site in 1971. It is situated on 2.5 hectares of ground providing adequate space for the classrooms and recreational facilities. Included in the school buildings are three classrooms, an office, the library, and two resource rooms. The grounds provide a playing field for recreational activities such as soccer, hockey, touch rugby, cricket and softball. A multipurpose court caters for tennis, patter tennis, netball, and basketball. A barked adventure playground provides climbing equipment, slides, swings etc., and a sandpit provides clean sand in which to dig and play. Both these areas are "sun-shaded". The school has many large trees, which provide shade and shelter.

St John's College is a state-integrated Catholic boys' secondary school in Hamilton, New Zealand, with a school roll of 916 as of April 2023. The school was established by the Marist Brothers in 1961 from Marist School (now Marian Catholic School). The school crest features the eagle of St. John the Apostle, with the motto "Caritas Christi Urget Nos" strewn across the bottom, a Latin motto translating loosely into "Christ's love urges us on". The mission statement for the school is "Preparing Young Men For Life".

Riverlea is a suburb in south-eastern Hamilton in New Zealand. It is located south of Hillcrest. The suburb is primarily residential, with a small section of light industrial land along Riverlea Road.

The University of Waikato (Māori: Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato), established in 1964, is a public research university located in Hamilton, New Zealand. An additional campus is located in Tauranga. The university performs research in numerous disciplines such as education, social sciences, and management and is an innovator in environmental science, marine and freshwater ecology, engineering and computer science. It offers degrees in health, engineering, computer science, management, Māori and Indigenous Studies, the arts, psychology, social sciences and education.

Hillcrest is a suburb in southeastern Hamilton in New Zealand. The suburb is home to the University of Waikato and consequently has a large student population. It is located on the east side of the Hamilton Town Belt, a series of public parks that run from the Hamilton Gardens to Ruakura in its eastern section.

Ruakura is a semi-rural suburb of Hamilton City, in the Waikato region of New Zealand. The University of Waikato is nearby. The area lies to the east of urban Hamilton and to the west of State Highway 1B (a variant of State Highway 1 which avoids the urban area).

Tamahere is a locality (located on a semi-rural ward that bears the same name) within Waikato District, New Zealand; on the outskirts of Hamilton. The majority of the Ward is zoned as Country Living, with a minimum lot size of 0.5ha. The landscape is dominated by several large gully systems that contribute to the Waikato River.

The Tamahere coolstore fire was a major fire at the Icepak Coolstores in Tamahere, near Hamilton, New Zealand, on 5 April 2008. Around 4:00pm on Saturday 5 April 2008, the New Zealand Fire Service dispatched two fire engines and eight firefighters from Hamilton Fire Station to an alarm activation at the Icepak Coolstores facility in Tamahere, 10 km southeast of the city. Upon arrival, firefighters found no signs of fire, but upon further investigating the alarm cause, found what appeared to be a refrigerant leak. At around 4:30pm, the 400 kg of propane-based refrigerant ignited explosively, injuring all eight firefighters and destroying one fire engine. One firefighter, Senior Station Officer Derek Lovell, later died in hospital as a result of his injuries, and another firefighter received burns to 71 percent of his body. $25 million worth of cheese was in the coolstores at the time, which melted in the fire and covered neighbouring homes.Following the fire, Icepak Coolstores and the refrigeration company contracted to maintain the coolstores pleaded guilty to health and safety breaches, and combined were ordered to pay $393,000 in fines and reparation.

Peacocke Bridge is a girder bridge under construction over the Waikato River in Hamilton, New Zealand. The bridge on Wairere Drive is part of the Southern Links, which will complete a ring road around Hamilton. It will link Hamilton East with a new suburb of Peacocke. Construction started in 2020, though the plan originated in 1962.The bridge is formed with 2,650 tonnes of steel and is expected to be completed by mid 2024, at a cost of $160.2M, though budgeted at $135M in 2020, estimated at no more than $60M in 2017 and formerly at $40M. The bridge was delayed by COVID-19 and Cyclone Gabrielle and other storms. The four-lane bridge was designed by Bloxam Burnett & Olliver, and is being built by HEB Construction. It will include bus lanes and cycle paths, and will also carry the Peacocke to Pukete sewer line. The river was closed to boats during construction.Both banks of the river have been stabilised to support the bridge. The north bank, next to the bridge abutments, has a 50-degree slope, rising 45 metres (148 ft), or 35 metres (115 ft), and was stabilised with 150-millimetre (5.9 in) soil nails. The total length of the bridge is 215 metres (705 ft), including the 11-metre-high (36 ft) mechanically stabilised earth wall of the southern bridge abutment, which is on compressible, loose Taupō Pumice alluvial soils, of the river terraces. The bridge itself is 180 metres (590 ft) long (made up of a 70-metre (230 ft) northern span, 50-metre (160 ft) central span and a 60-metre (200 ft) southern span), 26.2 metres (86 ft) wide, on 38-metre-deep (125 ft), closely spaced, bridge piles, with 35-metre-long (115 ft) earth anchors and over 600 eight-metre-long (26 ft) soil nails. The bridge is over 30 metres (98 ft) above the normal river level. The main support is a pier on the south bank of the river, formed of weathering steel, in two lattice-shaped, 30-by-22-metre (98 ft × 72 ft) Y sections, each weighing over 200 tonnes. The lattice is made up of 2.2-by-0.82-metre (7.2 ft × 2.7 ft) box-section welded plates. They were lifted into position by a 600-tonne crane.

The Hamilton Town Belt, also known as the Green Belt, is a series of public parks in Hamilton, New Zealand that surround the original 1877 city boundaries. Many of the cities notable venues and attractions are located on the belt, including Hamilton Gardens, Waikato Stadium, Seddon Park, Hamilton Girls' High School, Founders Theatre and the Hamilton Lake Domain. The eastern section of the belt separates the suburbs of Hamilton East and Hillcrest.
