Kingswood Abbey

Kingswood is a village and civil parish within the Stroud district of Gloucestershire, England. It is southwest of Wotton-under-Edge and has a population of 1,290, increasing to 1,395 at the 2011 Census.The village is located on the edge of the Cotswolds. Kingswood was formerly a detached part of Wiltshire that was incorporated into Gloucestershire by the Counties (Detached Parts) Act 1844.Kingswood Abbey was a Cistercian abbey on the northeast edge of the village. The abbey was founded in 1139 by William Berkeley, in accordance with the wishes of his uncle, Roger II of Berkeley, and colonised from the Cistercian house at Tintern. All that survives today is the 16th-century gatehouse, which is under the care of English Heritage.

Nind Nature Reserve (grid reference ST755915) is a 3.75-hectare (9.3-acre) nature reserve in Gloucestershire.The site is managed by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust and is leased from the landowners. It is a former trout farm.The site and adjacent areas are designated as a Key Wildlife Site (KWS). These are the Nind Trout farm (2.7-hectare (6.7-acre)), an area of adjacent wet woodland (1.2-hectare (3.0-acre)) and a stretch of Ozleworth Brook (grid reference ST749919 to grid reference ST754916). The reserve forms part of the Berkeley Vale Water Vole Recovery Project’s habitat enhancement scheme.

Wotton Hill (grid reference ST753942) is a hill on the edge of the Cotswold Hills in Gloucestershire, England, 0.5 miles (0.80 km) north of Wotton-under-Edge. The Cotswold Way passes over the hill. The escarpment forms a 26.1-hectare (64-acre) biological and geological Site of Special Scientific Interest in Gloucestershire, notified in 1954 and ratified in 1986.The site is in the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is divided into 5 units of assessment. The site is owned by the National Trust and the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust owns and manages unit 2, which is called Old London Road reserve.

One of the oldest churches in its area, St Mary's was consecrated on 19 August 1283 by Bishop of Worcester, Godfrey Giffard. It is believed that most of the church as it is today was completed in 1325, some 171 years after its first recorded vicar, Gerinus, in 1154. It is one of four churches in the town of Wotton-under-Edge in Gloucestershire.
