Kissing is a municipality in the Aichach-Friedberg district, in Bavaria, Germany. It is located just 10 km (6.2 mi) south of Augsburg and has about 11,200 inhabitants (2007). Kissing was first mentioned in a document in 1050 AD as Chissingin, it was a minor regional centre of rule and jurisdiction called a Hofmark. In even earlier times, around 500, there was a thing hill nearby, which was later swept away by the floods of the river Lech. The surname Kissinger (as in Henry Kissinger) means inhabitant of Kissing or Kissingen.

Mering is a municipality in the district Aichach-Friedberg, in Bavaria, Germany. It is located on the river Paar. First mentioned in records in 1021, Mering has a long history. The growing town with its nearly 15,000 inhabitants (2021) profits from its good location between Munich and Augsburg. Engine of this growing popularity is the main railway station which connects Mering directly within 30 minutes to Munich and within 15 minutes to Augsburg. Although it profits from being in easy reach of big cities, one can easily get anything in Mering, from ice cream to cars. Mering is a lovely small town with many shopping facilities within easy walking distance. Its motto is "Ihr Einkaufsort der kurzen Wege" (Your shopping centre of short distances). Worth a visit is the baroque main Catholic church St. Michael built in 1789 with its magnificent building and interior. A popular place is the recently redesigned main square (Marktplatz) with shops and restaurants in ancient buildings surrounding the fountain. Every Friday the local farmers' market takes place here when inhabitants and guests meet to buy fresh vegetables, fish and so on, or just relax by having a coffee. Next to the river Paar, a nice area to go for a walk is by the old mill where the privately owned castle of Mering is located.

Brunnenbach is a river of Bavaria, Germany. In earlier centuries, from at least 1412, the Brunnenbach supplied the city of Augsburg with drinking water. It originates in several springs in the Lech meadows south of the city. In the post-glacial period, great groundwater streams pushed the alluvial gravels of the Lechfeld northwards, feeding springs in many places from which streams flowed northwards. These headstreams were traditionally called Gießer by the locals. One stream formed from the waters of several of these springs, whose water was clean enough for supplying the growing city, was called the Brunnenbach ("Spring Stream"). The stream was diverted into the city and fed many public wells and private water systems in Augsburg via a water works and water towers. Today, drinking water is no longer extracted from the Brunnenbach. It flows, as before, through the Augsburg Municipal Forest, but now empties into the Lech Canal in front of the Red Gate (Rotes Tor). This then crosses the quarter Lechviertel and merges with the other Lech canals in the north of the city, before discharging into the Lech.

Steinbach is a river of Bavaria, Germany. The Steinbach springs between the two districts Steinbach and Windach of Moorenweis. It is a right tributary of the Paar in Mering.

The Augsburg Eiskanal is an artificial whitewater river in Augsburg, Germany, constructed as the canoe slalom venue for the 1972 Summer Olympics in nearby Munich. The first artificial whitewater course of its kind, it introduced the sport of canoe slalom (using decked canoes and kayaks) to the Olympic Games. However, because of the expense of building artificial rivers and supplying them with water, canoe slalom was missing from the next four Summer Olympics. It returned with the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, and has been featured in every Summer Olympics since then.The Eiskanal has thus served as the prototype for six Olympic whitewater venues, from 1992 through 2012, and for more than fifty training and competition facilities in eighteen countries (see list). Despite being the oldest, it is still one of the most widely used, hosting two World Championships and numerous World Cup races. It was a World Cup venue for all but four of the years 1990 through 2010, and it was so again in 2013 and 2014. The facility and its website are jointly managed by two clubs with headquarters in the boat house, Augsburger Kayak Club eV and Canoe Schwaben Augsburg.

Friedberg (German pronunciation: [ˈfʁiːtˌbɛʁk] (listen)) is a town in the district Aichach-Friedberg, Bavaria, Germany, with some 30,000 inhabitants. It is located next to Augsburg at the river Lech. The town was founded in the 13th century in order to collect a toll from people using the bridge across the Lech. The town lies almost entirely on the western edge of the hills along the Lechleite, where the river Lech has formed a wide bed from glacial melt water.

Augsburg Zoo holds 1,600 animals belonging to 300 different species. Of those animals, the zoo keeps 100 reptiles and amphibians from 25 species. The zoo is involved in the 18 European Endangered Species Programmes.
