Whitsand Bay

HMS A7 was an A-class submarine built for the Royal Navy in the first decade of the 20th century. She sank in a training accident in 1914 with the loss of her entire crew. Efforts to salvage her failed and her wreck is a protected site. Diving on her is prohibited without a licence from the Ministry of Defence.

SS Rosehill, also known as SS Penhill, was a 2,788 GRT steel-hulled collier built in 1911 by S.P. Austin and Son of Sunderland under the name Minster. She was torpedoed by the Imperial German Navy submarine UB-40 in the English Channel off Fowey, Cornwall, England, on 23 September 1917 while en route from Cardiff, Wales, to Devonport. She was taken under tow but sank in Whitsand Bay at 18:05. Her wreck lies in 28 metres (92 feet) of water at 50°19.793′N 4°18.520′W with her bow to the north. This wreck, which has been adopted by Totnes SAC under the "adopt-a-wreck" scheme, is often overlooked by divers, as the wrecks of the Liberty ship SS James Eagan Layne and Royal Navy frigate HMS Scylla are close by and in shallower water. The wreck is considerably broken up, and is hard to find on an echo sounder.

Tregantle Fort in south east Cornwall is one of several forts surrounding Plymouth that were built as a result of a decision in Lord Palmerston's premiership to deter the French from attacking naval bases on the Channel coast.

Tregantle Down Battery was a high angle gun battery in south east Cornwall. It was built between 1888 and 1894 to defend HMNB Devonport from Whitsand Bay area and was infilled to form a car park in the early 1970s.

HMS Scylla (F71) was a Leander-class frigate of the Royal Navy (RN). She was built at Devonport Royal Dockyard, the last RN frigate to be built there as of 2016. Scylla was commissioned in 1970, taken out of service in 1993 in accordance with Options for Change, and sunk as an artificial reef in 2004 off Whitsand Bay, Cornwall.

Lower Tregantle is a hamlet in Cornwall, England, UK. It is about half a mile south of Antony; Higher Tregantle is about a quarter of a mile further south. It should be distinguished from Lower Tregantle, a farm near Luxulyan. Higher Tregantle Farmhouse is a grade II listed building with part of the house dating back to the 17th century.

The majority of dwellings are north of the road on the plateau above Freathy Cliffs, while some chalets are sporadically situated on the cliffside above the beach below. SS James Eagan Layne was a liberty ship. She was beached and sunk during the Second World War off Whitsand Bay, Cornwall, United Kingdom.

Portwrinkle (Cornish: Porthwykkel) is a small coastal village in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. It is at the western end of Whitsand Bay five miles (8 km) south-west of Saltash.Portwinkle was traditionally a fishing village and the old 17th century walls of the pilchard cellars are still standing, although they have been incorporated into housing. The village has a harbour and two beaches are accessible from it. Although the village has no shops, apart from the beach car park cafe, there is a post office in nearby village of Crafthole. The Whitsand Bay Hotel – formerly a mansion called Thanckes House in nearby Torpoint, dismantled and re-erected in Portwrinkle – closed in 2018 but (as of 2022) the Grade II listed building still stands, awaiting redevelopment.

Sheviock (Cornish: Seviek, meaning strawberry bed) is a coastal civil parish and a hamlet in south-east Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. The parish is two miles (3 km) south of St Germans and three miles (5 km) south-west of Saltash.Sheviock parish is in the St Germans Registration District and the population in the 2001 census was 683, which had decreased to 646 at the 2011 census. To the north, the parish is bordered by St Germans Creek (the tidal estuary of the River Tiddy, a tributary of the Lynher River) and to the south by the sea. To the east, Sheviock is bordered by Antony parish and to the west by Deviock parish.
