Yahoo Falls

The Massacre at Ywahoo Falls (or the Great Cherokee Children Massacre) is alleged to have occurred on August 10, 1810, at Yahoo Falls, now within the Daniel Boone National Forest in southeast Kentucky. A number of Cherokee women and children were purportedly massacred by European Americans. No documentary or other evidence supports this account. "The Great Cherokee Children Massacre at Ywahoo Falls" is written about in an unpublished manuscript completed in the 1990s by Dan Troxell. Hiking the Big South Fork (1999) notes the purported event, citing Troxell as its source.

Yahoo Arch is a spiraling rock feature located in the Daniel Boone National Forest, in McCreary County, Kentucky. A hiking trail leads (0.8 Miles) from Yahoo Falls to the arch.

Marshes Siding is an unincorporated community within McCreary County, Kentucky, United States.

McCreary County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. As of the 2020 census, the population was 16,888. Its county seat is Whitley City. The county is named for James B. McCreary, a Confederate war soldier and two-time Governor of Kentucky (1875–1879, 1911–1915). During his second term as governor, McCreary County was created by the Legislature and was named in his honor.

The Barren Fork Coal Camp and Mine Archeological District is a 210 acres (0.85 km2) historic district near Whitley City, Kentucky which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997. It is also designated 15MC808 and 15MC809.It is presumably located near or on Barren Fork Rd., north of Whitley City. The Barren Fork Cemetery is the most visible surviving element of the community.

Hill Top is located on Kentucky Route 92 near the Big South Fork of the Cumberland River, 3.5 miles (5.6 km) west of Whitley City.A post office was established in the community in 1925, and named for its scenic overlooks.

Yamacraw is an unincorporated community and coal town in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. It was also known as Big South Fork. Their post office closed in 1950. The Lonesome post office was associated with the Yamacraw area.

Whitley City is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 968 at the 2020 census, down from 1,170 in 2010. It is the county seat of McCreary County. Whitley City is one of two unincorporated county seats in Kentucky (the other being Burlington in Boone County).

Worley is an unincorporated community and coal town in McCreary County, Kentucky, United States. Its post office closed in 1953.

The Stearns Golf Course, at 131 Clubhouse Dr. in Stearns, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.The nomination included 180 acres (73 ha) including the 49 acres (20 ha) golf course, a log clubhouse built in 1936, and a kidney-shaped in-ground pool. The clubhouse and pool were funded by the Works Progress Administration. It was located in a coal company town and the NRHP nomination described it as "'a very unusual place, as well as a significant one. It shows the lengths that some coal companies went to create a familiar experience in a very foreign place, importing a feature of urban leisure in a place of rural work.'"

McCreary Central High School is a high school located in Stearns, Kentucky, United States. The school was built in 1978 by combining McCreary County High and Pine Knot High Schools. The school recently underwent restructuring, which tiers class assignments of student around college readiness or EPAS benchmarks.
