The Stearns Golf Course, at 131 Clubhouse Dr. in Stearns, Kentucky, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.The nomination included 180 acres (73 ha) including the 49 acres (20 ha) golf course, a log clubhouse built in 1936, and a kidney-shaped in-ground pool. The clubhouse and pool were funded by the Works Progress Administration. It was located in a coal company town and the NRHP nomination described it as "'a very unusual place, as well as a significant one. It shows the lengths that some coal companies went to create a familiar experience in a very foreign place, importing a feature of urban leisure in a place of rural work.'"

The Stearns Administrative and Commercial District, located on Old U.S. Route 27 in Stearns, Kentucky, is a 4.3 acres (1.7 ha) historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1988. It included six contributing buildings and one non-contributing building.The main element is the Stearns Company General Offices Building, "a two-and one-half story frame building that utilizes dormers, porches, and roof lines characteristic of the American Four Square House." The McCreary County Museum now uses the building.

Originally a railroad siding for Southern Railway (US), the community was named for James Henry Oliver, an executive Vice President of Southern's Kentucky Division. Oliver was killed in a passenger train collision in 1918 in Danville, Virginia. "Revilo" is "Oliver" spelled backwards. The United States Postal Service changed it to the modern spelling in 1943.

McCreary, a Confederate war soldier and two-time Governor of Kentucky (1875–1879, 1911–1915).
