Howe is a small village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It is situated near Ainderby Quernhow and the A61 and 5 miles (8 km) west of Thirsk. The population of the civil parish was estimated at 20 in 2015.Howe, from the Old Norse word haugr, is a Middle English topographic name for a small hill or a man-made mound or barrow. Howe was historically a township in the ancient parish of Pickhill with Roxby in the North Riding of Yorkshire. At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 it belonged to Count Alan of Brittany. In the Middle Ages the manor belonged to St Leonard's Hospital, York. Howe became a separate civil parish in 1866.

Baldersby is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England, about 6 miles (10 km) west of Thirsk and 5 miles (8 km) north-east of Ripon on the A61. The parish includes the village of Baldersby St James, 1 mile (2 km) south-east of the village of Baldersby, but not Baldersby Park, which is in the parish of Rainton with Newby. According to the 2001 census the parish had a population of 253, increasing to 285 at the 2011 census.Baldersby has a farm shop, an Anglican Mission Room, and a cricket ground with a pavilion and children's play area. The nearest primary school is Baldersby St. James C of E Primary School in nearby Baldersby St James. The Roman road Dere Street forms the western boundary of the parish, now followed by the A1(M) motorway. Baldersby Gate Interchange, Junction 50 of the A1(M), connects the A61 to the A1(M) in the south of the parish.

Royal Air Force Skipton-on-Swale or more simply RAF Skipton-on-Swale is a former Royal Air Force station operated by RAF Bomber Command during the Second World War. The station was located at Skipton-on-Swale 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Thirsk (near the present-day junction of the A61 and A167), North Yorkshire, England. The village of Sandhutton is located just to the east. RAF Skipton-on-Swale was a sub-station of RAF Leeming.

Baldersby railway station was a railway station serving the village of Baldersby in North Yorkshire, England. It was located on a line from Melmerby, north of Ripon, to Thirsk on the East Coast Main Line.

The Old Parsonage is a historic building in Baldersby St James, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The house was commissioned by William Dawnay, 7th Viscount Downe, and designed by William Butterfield. It was completed in 1854. The Church Times later described the building as "Gothic architecture... used to express a link with the church... the size of the parsonage reveals the prestige of the parson who inhabited it". It was Grade II* listed in 1971. In 2022, the house was sold for around £1,750,000. The house is in stone and has a half-hipped tile roof. There are two storeys and an irregular plan. On the entrance front is a slightly projecting gabled wing containing a doorway with a pointed arch, and a window with Geometric tracery. The other ground floor windows are sashes with mullions and ogee and trefoil-headed lights. In the left return is a canted bay window, above which is timber framing and a dormer in a half-hipped gable. Original features include servants' bells. The house has around two acres of grounds, and an indoor swimming pool.

Baldersby St James Primary School is a former school in Baldersby St James, a village in North Yorkshire, in England. The school was commissioned by William Dawnay, 7th Viscount Downe, and designed by William Butterfield. It was completed in 1854, along with an attached schoolhouse. It operated as a primary school until 2022, when it had only 22 pupils. At the time, it was run by the Hope Sentamu Learning Trust, which decided to close it, given that pupil numbers were projected to further decline. The school was placed on the market for £550,000, for community use. The school and schoolhouse were jointly grade II* listed in 1971. Both the school and house are in stone. The school has a roof of Westmorland slate, and on the house is a tile roof. The school has an L-shaped plan containing two rooms, and a gabled timber-framed porch. In the left gable end of the main hall are two two-light windows, and on the roof are flues in the form of truncated pyramids. The house has a single storey and an attic, and five bays. In the centre is a wooden porch with bargeboards, the flanking windows are three-light sashes with mullions, and above are two-light mullioned windows in half-hipped dormers. Inside is the original wooden staircase, with an open wooden screen at its foot. The boundary wall and gates are Grade II listed.

Holme (or Holme on Swale) is a small village and civil parish in the Hambleton District of North Yorkshire, England. It is located near Pickhill, Sinderby and Ainderby Quernhow, on the west bank of the River Swale. The population of the civil parish was estimated at 60 in 2014.Hambleton Ales is a small brewery which started life in Holme. It has now moved to Melmerby. Holme was historically a township in the ancient parish of Pickhill with Roxby in the North Riding of Yorkshire. At the time of the Domesday Book in 1086 it belonged to the Bishop of Durham as part of his manor of Hutton Conyers and Howgrave. The township formed a detached part of the wapentake of Allertonshire, and retained a detached part at Howgrave, 3 miles (5 km) west of the village, apparently only a single farm, into the 19th century. The township was for that reason referred to as Holme cum Howgrave. Holme became a separate civil parish in 1866.

Ainderby Quernhow is a village and civil parish in North Yorkshire, England. The village is situated on the B6267 Thirsk to Masham road just east of the A1(M) and is about five miles west of Thirsk. The population of the civil parish was estimated at 70 in 2014.The Quernhow at Ainderby is a small mound on the nearby Roman Road which marked the boundary between the parishes of Ainderby and Middleton Quernhow. The mound at Ainderby Quernhow was demolished to make way for the upgrading of the A1(M) and its history is commemorated in a stone laid down in the grounds of the Quernhow Café which now adjoins the A6055.Ainderby Mires and Ainderby Steeple are also in the district, the latter refers to the local church spire, the former to marshy mires.Ainderby is a place name originally meant village belonging to Eindrithi, a Viking whose name meant 'sole-ruler'. Quernhow, which has also been spelled Whernhowe and Whernou means mill-hill. The first element derives from the Old Norse word kvern meaning a mill stone. How, deriving from the Old Norse word haugr , means a hill. How is a common element in Yorkshire place names but rare in County Durham.
