South River Public Schools

South River High School is a four-year comprehensive community public high school that serves students in ninth through twelfth grades from South River in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States, operating as the lone secondary school of the South River Public Schools. South River High School is overseen by the New Jersey Department of Education. As of the 2019–20 school year, the school had an enrollment of 703 students and 54.5 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.9:1. South River is a borough in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. As of the 2010 United States Census, the borough's population was 16,008, reflecting an increase of 686 (+4.5%) from the 15,322 counted in the 2000 Census, which had in turn increased by 1,630 (+11.9%) from the 13,692 counted in the 1990 Census.What is now South River was originally formed as the town of Washington within East Brunswick Township on February 23, 1870. South River was incorporated as an independent borough by an act of the New Jersey Legislature on February 28, 1898, replacing Washington town. The school serves students of many diverse cultures from all over Middlesex County. As of the 2020–21 school year, the school had an enrollment of 460 students and 38.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 12.1:1. There were 123 students (26.7% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 43 (9.3% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

It used to loop inefficiently to its confluence with the Raritan River, so a shortcut called Washington Canal was created.The river lends its name to the borough of South River.

Orchard Heights is an unincorporated community located within East Brunswick Township in Middlesex County, New Jersey, United States. The area is part of a suburban residential neighborhood between Milltown and Dunhams Corner Roads (County Route 535) interchange with New Jersey Route 18. Near the area includes two schools (one elementary school and East Brunswick High School), churches, and St. Mary's Cemetery. The subdivision was planned and built in about 1954.
