First River

The Orange Street station is a surface-level light rail stop in the Roseville section of Newark, Essex County, New Jersey. A stop on the Newark City Subway line of the Newark Light Rail, Orange Street is a single island platform stop on the south side of the eponymous street between First Street and Duryea Street. The stop is next to interchange 13 on Interstate 280 and serves the southern end of Branch Brook Park in Newark. The next station north is Park Avenue and the next station south is Norfolk Street. The station is accessible for handicapped persons as part of the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, with access at Orange Street from the sidewalk. Orange Street station opened on May 26, 1935 as part of the original Newark City Subway, a service between Heller Parkway station and Broad Street station (modern-day Military Park). The station was built just eight blocks east of the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western Railroad's Roseville Avenue station, which closed on September 16, 1984.

The Branch Brook Park Roller Skating Center is a 12,000-square-foot roller rink located in Branch Brook Park in Newark, New Jersey. Managed by United Skates of America, its current iteration has operated since 1996. Like United Skates' other facilities, BBP Roller Skating Center hosts summer camps, birthday parties, STEM/ExL educational field trips, corporate events, DJed adult skate nights, and public events. In 2013, NJ.com described the rink as "a symbol of revitalization for Newark" and "a literal savior of urban skating". It praised its relationship to the community, including events like roller derby, style skating, gospel skaters, and DJ nightlife. The rink has been called a "hidden gem" and a "staple of the [Newark] community".

Newark Renaissance House, Inc. (NRH) is tax-exempt, fully licensed, not-for-profit specialized therapeutic agency funded by the New Jersey Department of Human Services, Division of Addiction Services. NRH caters to adolescents, pregnant women and families whose lives are affected by substance abuse. NRH was founded in 1975 as a state-approved, privately-funded, residential drug treatment community in Newark, New Jersey. In the years since its founding, NRH has added capacity and services, expanding its facilities and its offerings to include residential substance abuse treatment for adolescent boys, for pregnant women, and for mothers with small children, drug abuse prevention training for at-risk children and teenagers, day treatment for adolescent girls and boys, and outpatient care for individuals and families. Although it remains in the same geographic location as it always has been, NRH has grown over the years from one to three operational buildings. The primary treatment program at NRH is residential treatment for adolescent boys dealing with alcohol and/or drug abuse and co-occurring mental, emotional, and/or environmental issues, disorders, or conditions. NRH also specializes in treating addictive behaviors in pregnant women and in women with pre-school-aged children. The populations it serves are considered by experts to be among the most vulnerable in the community, and among those whose substance abuse activity is growing most rapidly. NRH emphasizes family treatment within a context of real world community environs. It employs a community therapeutic approach to treating the disease of addiction and other related conduct. All of NRH’s programs follow intensive schedules made up of individual and group therapy where treatment involves a psychotherapeutic approach and the 12 steps and incorporates help with codependency if necessary.

The Essex County Park Commission Administration Building is located in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. The building was built in 1916 and was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 11, 1977.

The Essex County Park System comprises the county-run parks of Essex County, New Jersey. The Essex County Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs is in charge of the upkeep and preservation of the parks, reservations and a number of other facilities, including golf courses and trails.

The Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, the fifth-largest cathedral in North America, is the seat of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Newark. It is located at 89 Ridge Street in the Lower Broadway neighborhood of Newark, New Jersey. Construction began in 1899 and was finished in 1954. The original design called for an English-Irish Gothic Revival church, but plans were later modified in favor of a French Gothic Revival style.

The James M. Baxter Terrace Housing Projects was a public housing facility in Newark, New Jersey. Named after James M. Baxter, it was opened in 1941. It was closed and demolished in 2009 due to social and financial neglect. The housing was replaced in 2012 by 90 apartments known by the name of Baxter Park.

Barringer Academy of the Arts & Humanities (formerly Barringer High School and Newark High School), is a four-year comprehensive public high school serving students in ninth through twelfth grades in Newark, in Essex County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey, operating as part of the Newark Public Schools. Some consider it to be the third oldest public high school in the United States. The school has been accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools since 1981.As of the 2021–22 school year, the school had an enrollment of 1,663 students and 112.0 classroom teachers (on an FTE basis), for a student–teacher ratio of 14.8:1. There were 1,183 students (71.1% of enrollment) eligible for free lunch and 101 (6.1% of students) eligible for reduced-cost lunch.

Park Avenue station is an open-cut station on the Newark City Subway Line of the Newark Light Rail, located at Park Avenue east of North Fourth Street, and the first (i.e. southernmost) station located on the west side of Branch Brook Park. The station is also near two smaller parks on the opposite side of the tracks.

The Norfolk Street station is an open-cut station on the Newark City Subway Line of the Newark Light Rail, and the first following the line leaving the Raymond Boulevard tunnel. It is located on Norfolk Street just south of Central Avenue in University Heights.

The Wellness and Events Center (WEC) is 220,000 sq ft. sports and recreation facility that includes a 3,500 seat basketball arena in Newark, New Jersey. It was built at a cost of $102 million by the New Jersey Institute of Technology. The Wellness and Events Center is the home court of the NJIT Highlanders who joined the NCAA Division I American East Conference on July 1, 2020. The WEC replaced the former arena of the Highlanders, the Fleisher Center. The new arena broke ground on November 12, 2015, and opened in time for the 2017–18 basketball season.

St. Lucy's Church is a historic church at 19-27 Ruggiero Plaza at the intersection of Seventh Ave.in Newark, Essex County, New Jersey, United States. It is home to the American National Shrine Of Saint Gerard Majella. It was built in 1925 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1998. The church is in the Old First Ward near Branch Brook Park, a historically Italian parish in what was Newark's Little Italy, features an annual October procession and festival for St. Gerard Majella, the patron saint of childbearing, that is heavily attended by the New Jersey Italian diaspora. The October Feast of St. Gerard "became so popular and so widely-known for producing miracle babies for hitherto childless women that in 1977 the National Conference of U.S. Bishops made St. Lucy's the National Shrine of St. Gerard."The church holds a monthly mass in honor of St. Gerard at which expectant parents and others hoping to become expectant venerate the saint.
