Sunnyside–Tahoe City is a census-designated place (CDP) in Placer County, California, located on the northwest shore of Lake Tahoe. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census, down from 1,761 at the 2000 census, and a total area of 3.4 sq mi (8.8 km2), all of it land. It comprises two communities, Sunnyside, and Tahoe City.

The Tahoe Maritime Museum was a maritime museum founded in 1988 and was dedicated to the preservation of the maritime history of Lake Tahoe. The Museum hosted a collection of photographs and artifacts that span Lake Tahoe's maritime history, and in 2008 opened a new facility in Homewood, California to exhibit its collection. The museum shutdown in 2020 The Tahoe Maritime Museum's collection included over 25 vessels, including examples of Gar Wood, Chris-Craft, Hackercraft, Besotes, and Dodge wooden runabouts and utility boats as well as boats owned and raced by Henry J. Kaiser. In addition, the Museum was also home to the Jevarian Outboard Motor collection, an excellent collection reflecting the diversity of outboard engines over the decades. On display were models from the early 1900s as well as an outboard motor made by the Indian Silver Arrow Company. The museum also had in its collection Teaser, a 39.92 ft sweep-stakes runabout designed by George F. Crouch and built by Henry B. Nevins, that won a time trial against the 20th Century Limited in a race from New York City to Albany in 1925. The 20th Century Limited was considered the fastest train at that time. Teaser, speeding up the Hudson River, beat the record by more than an hour. The museum was a member of the North American Reciprocal Museums program.

Granlibakken is a conference center and lodge that operates year-round one mile (1.6 km) southwest of Tahoe City, California. The resort has 190 rooms and 16,000 square feet (1,500 m2) of meeting space, and occupies a historic location on Lake Tahoe's northwest shore. The small ski hill at Granlibakken is Lake Tahoe's oldest ski resort.

Sunnyside is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California. Sunnyside is located on Lake Tahoe, 2 miles (3.2 km) south-southwest of Tahoe City. It lies at an elevation of 6260 feet (1908 m).Sunnyside is combined with Tahoe City for census purposes into Sunnyside-Tahoe City, California census-designated place (CDP).

Lake Tahoe Dam is a concrete gravity dam on the Truckee River, at the outlet of Lake Tahoe in Placer County, California. Tahoe Dam regulates the top six feet of Lake Tahoe, and distributes the water into Tahoe's primary outflow, the Truckee River. The dam is located in Tahoe City and serves as the main storage facility for the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation's Newlands Project that also includes the Lahontan Dam and two diversion dams, providing irrigation water for 55,000 acres (22,000 ha) of cropland mainly in the Lahontan Valley of western Nevada. The present Lake Tahoe dam replaced an older, privately owned dam built in 1870 at roughly the same location.The dam was built between 1909 and 1913 and stands 18.2 ft (5.5 m) high and 109 ft (33 m) long, raising Lake Tahoe by up to 10.1 ft (3.1 m). Outflows from the dam are regulated by a gated spillway with 17 bays, with a maximum release capacity of 2,100 cubic feet per second (59 m3/s). It is situated 400 feet downstream from the lake's natural shore. This is meant to help hydraulic control during a dry season with low water levels. The reservoir receives water from a catchment of 505 sq mi (1,310 km2) and has a maximum storage capacity of 732,000 acre⋅ft (0.903 km3).

Watson Log Cabin in Tahoe City, California, was built in 1908 by Robert Montgomery Watson. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.It is the only historic log cabin in the Tahoe City area.The cabin is now owned by the North Lake Tahoe Historical Society and is open to the public seasonally. Watson Creek and Watson Lake, just north of Lake Tahoe, are also named for R. M. Watson.

Tahoe City (formerly Tahoe) is an unincorporated town in Placer County, California. Tahoe City is located on the shore of Lake Tahoe, at the outlet of the Truckee River. The site was surveyed in 1863, and Tahoe House was built in 1864. The Tahoe post office opened in 1871, closed for a period in 1896, and changed its name to Tahoe City in 1949. The ZIP Code is 96145. For statistical purposes, Tahoe City is included in the Sunnyside-Tahoe City census-designated place (CDP).

Ward Creek is a 6.1-mile (9.8 km) eastward-flowing stream in Placer County, California, United States. The creek flows into Lake Tahoe 2.7 miles (4.3 km) south of Tahoe City, California, and has undergone extensive restoration to reduce sediment and surface run-off to maintain the purity of Lake Tahoe.

Burton Creek State Park is a state park in the U.S. state of California, located in Placer County near Truckee. Situated on the outskirts of Tahoe City, the park offers 6 miles (9.7 km) of unpaved roadway for hiking and cross-country skiing. The 1,890-acre (760 ha) park was established in 1976.

Lake Forest is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California. Lake Forest is located on Lake Tahoe, 6.25 miles (10.1 km) southwest of Kings Beach. It lies at an elevation of 6260 feet (1908 m).The Lake Forest post office operated from 1947 to 1951.

Idlewild is an unincorporated community in Placer County, California. Idlewild is located on Lake Tahoe, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) north of Homewood. It lies at an elevation of 6234 feet (1900 m).Idlewild was the name of a summer lodge built at the location in 1905 by Fred Cole of San Francisco. Cole also acquired a large cruiser ship, also named the Idlewild, which sailed on Lake Tahoe for many years. The ship was hauled ashore in 1942, and then destroyed in December of that year when it was crushed by a tree blown over in a storm.

North Tahoe High School is a public high school located in the eastern Placer County settlement of Tahoe City, California, on the northern side of Lake Tahoe. It is one of two high schools in Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District; its counterpart is Truckee High School in nearby Truckee. North Tahoe High competes in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association, along with four other similarly isolated California schools including South Tahoe High and Truckee High.
