Wessagusset Colony (sometimes called the Weston Colony or Weymouth Colony) was a short-lived English trading colony in New England located in Weymouth, Massachusetts. It was settled in August 1622 by between fifty and sixty colonists who were ill-prepared for colonial life. The colony was settled without adequate provisions, and was dissolved in late March 1623 after harming relations with local Indians. Surviving colonists joined Plymouth Colony or returned to England. It was the second settlement in Massachusetts, predating the Massachusetts Bay Colony by six years.Historian Charles Francis Adams Jr. referred to the colony as "ill-conceived, ill-executed, ill-fated". It is best remembered for the battle there between Plymouth troops led by Myles Standish and an Indian force led by Pecksuot. This battle scarred relations between the Plymouth colonists and the Indians and was fictionalized two centuries later in Henry Wadsworth Longfellow's 1858 poem The Courtship of Miles Standish. In September 1623, a second colony was created on the abandoned site at Wessagusset, led by Governor-General Robert Gorges. This colony was rechristened as Weymouth and was also unsuccessful, and Governor Gorges returned to England the following year. Despite that, some settlers remained in the village and it was absorbed into the Massachusetts Bay Colony in 1630.

Weymouth is a city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, and one of 13 municipalities in the state to have city forms of government while retaining "town of" in their official names. It is named after Weymouth, Dorset, a coastal town in England, and is the second-oldest settlement in Massachusetts, second only to Plymouth. It is one of the South Shore's more affordable towns and offers a short commute into Boston, MBTA bus and rail service, and a town beach. As of the 2020 census, Weymouth had a total population of 57,437.

The Weymouth Civic District is a historic district encompassing the main civic area in Weymouth, Massachusetts. It is anchored by the 1928 Town Hall, which is a slightly reduced-scale replica of the Old State House in Boston, and the Legion Field athletic complex. Most of the houses built in the area along Middle Street between and surrounding these anchors were built between 1850 and 1920. To the south of town hall is a memorial wall, on which are plaques commemorating the town's military. The oldest building in the district is the 1926 Tudor Revival Weymouth Industrial School building, located next to the middle school.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The Jefferson School is a historic school at 200 Middle Street in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The Queen Anne style school was designed by Shepard S. Woodcock and was built in 1889. The four-room schoolhouse is a variant of the Washington School, built in 1887. In contrast to the latter school, this one has more symmetrical massing, but is decorated with scalloped shingles and a porch with elaborate woodwork. It is topped by an octagonal clock tower with cupola.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1981.

The Central Square Historic District is a historic district encompassing an area in Weymouth, Massachusetts, which was historically significant in the pre-factory period of shoe manufacturing. It is centered at the intersection of Middle and Broad Streets, extending on Middle Street from Maple to Charles Streets, and on Broad from just west of the main junction to Putnam Street. Most of the houses built in this area between 1850 and 1870 were built for workers in relatively small shoemaking operations, one of which still stands at the main intersection. Later additions to the district include the Jefferson School, a Masonic temple, and the Clapp Memorial Building, which originally housed a boys' club.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.

The John Adams School is a historic school building in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The Greek Revival/Italianate school building was built in 1855, on the site of Weymouth's first school building (1681). It is Weymouth's oldest surviving school building. It is 2+1⁄2 stories tall, with a front-facing gable roof that has a bracketed gable. The main facade is three bays wide, with windows that have bracketed surrounds, and a pair of entrances with bracketed cornices above.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It presently houses a daycare center.

The Weymouth Meeting House Historic District encompasses one of the oldest sections of Weymouth, Massachusetts. This area, centered on a cluster of properties near Church, East, Green, North, and Norton Streets, includes the city's oldest cemetery (the North Cemetery, established c. 1636), the site of its first meeting house, the 1833 church of its first congregation, the birthplace of presidential wife and mother Abigail Adams, and the John Adams School, Weymouth's oldest surviving schoolhouse. The area was the center of Weymouth until 1723, and then North Weymouth until 1833.The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

The Washington School is a historic school building at 8 School Street in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The 2+1⁄2-story wood-frame building was designed by Shepard S. Woodcock and built in 1887. The six-room building has characteristic Queen Anne styling, including asymmetrical massing, varied gable treatments, use of decorative fish-scale shingles, and an elaborately decorated entry porch.The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It has since been converted into offices.

East Weymouth is an MBTA Commuter Rail station in Weymouth, Massachusetts. It serves the Greenbush Line, and is located in the East Weymouth village. It consists of a single side platform serving the line's one track. The station is fully accessible.

The Fresh River is a tributary of the Weymouth Back River in Norfolk and Plymouth counties, Massachusetts in the United States.

Great Esker Park is located in Weymouth, Massachusetts. The park mostly consists of a geological formation known as an esker (a winding ridge of stratified sand and gravel) formed by a glacier 12,000 years ago. It is located along the Weymouth Back River, across from Bare Cove Park in Hingham, Massachusetts.The park features the highest esker in North America (90 ft), reversing falls, salt marshes, six miles (10 km) of trails, a playground and picnic area. Bird watching is a popular activity as osprey, great blue heron, red-tailed hawks, owls, and other species of birds are abundant seasonally. There are man-made shelters on the river where Osprey nest in the spring and summer months. In the summer months the park is used by Wey-Rec for children's programs.

The Front Historic District is a predominantly residential historic district in Weymouth, Massachusetts. From the 18th to the 20th century, the area encompassed by this district was one of the more fashionable and desirable neighborhoods adjacent to the commercial Weymouth Landing area. It also contains remnants of a once-flourishing small scale shoe manufacturing industry. The 77-acre (31 ha) district includes nearly 150 resources, primarily residential houses, as well as a school, two cemeteries, and a small cluster of commercial buildings. The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011.The district is focused on the northern stretch of Front Street, extending roughly from Washington Street in the north to Congress Street in the south. It also includes rows of properties along Summer Street from its junction with Front Street to Kingman Street, as well as Franklin and Broad Streets; individual properties lie on other streets immediately adjacent to the included sections of Front and Summer Streets.The geographically largest portions of the district are the Weymouth Village Cemetery (established 1843), at its southeastern corner, Weston Park (established in the 1920s) in its northeast, and the Hunt Street School property (a Colonial Revival public school built 1915-17 that now houses a private Christian academy). The oldest building in the district is a Cape Style house built c. 1720 at 160 Front Street; there are other 18th century Cape and Georgian style homes on Front and Summer Streets. One example of a 19th-century shoemaker's shop that survives is the building at 99 Front Street, now converted to a residence. Smaller shops, which have been converted to garages or other outbuildings, also survive at 131 and 204 Front Street.
