East Croydon station

No. 1 Croydon (formerly the NLA Tower, and colloquially the 50p Building, the Weddingcake or the Threepenny bit building) is a tall building at 12–16 Addiscombe Road, Croydon, Greater London, next to East Croydon station. It was designed by Richard Seifert & Partners and completed in 1970. It has 24 storeys and is 269 feet (82 m) high. 'NLA' stood for 'Noble Lowndes Annuities'. It was one of many new buildings constructed in the growing town of Croydon in the 1960s. The development of tall buildings was later encouraged in the 2004 London Plan, which led to the erection of new skyscrapers as Greater London went through a high-rise boom.

The Warehouse Theatre was a professional producing theatre in the centre of Croydon, England. Based in an oak-beamed Victorian former cement warehouse, it had 100 seats. The theatre closed in 2012 following withdrawal of funding and the discovery, after a survey, of serious faults in the building.The Warehouse was known for its commitment to new writing, including an annual International Playwriting Festival, in partnership with the Extra Candoni Festival of Udine in Italy and Theatro Ena in Cyprus. Youth theatre was also an important feature of the theatre, with a resident Croydon Young Peoples' Theatre (CRYPT) and including an annual collaboration with the Croydon-based Brit School.

Ruskin Square (or Croydon Gateway) is a project to redevelop a parcel of land between East Croydon railway station and the existing town centre of Croydon in South London. It is part of the major Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration scheme. It has been subject to substantial public debate which has featured in the national media. Croydon is the principal office district in South London, having been rebuilt on a large scale in the 1960s, but much of the remaining office stock from that era is now dated. The "Croydon Gateway" site, a former railway goods yard, represents the largest single development opportunity in the district.

Wettern House was a high rise building next to East Croydon station in Croydon. Originally built in 1963, two years before the County Borough of Croydon disbanded into the London Borough of Croydon, it was demolished in November 2005 to make way for what would become Ruskin Square. Before demolition, the building had 12 floors and a structural height of 38 metres (125 ft). Its demolition was part of the Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration planning for a new generation of buildings.

Croydon Law Courts is a Crown Court venue, which deals with criminal cases, and a County Court venue, which deals with civil cases, in Altyre Road, Croydon, London. There is also an older magistrates' courts building on an adjacent site in Barclay Road.

Altitude 25 is an apartment building on Fairfield Road in the London Borough of Croydon, London. It is Croydon's fourth tallest building. The development was intended to regenerate a brownfield site near to East Croydon station. The building was completed in 2009, and has 26 floors of apartments up to floor 25, hence the name Altitude 25, a roof height of 82.00 and a structural height of 94 m (307 ft). It is part of the Croydon Vision 2020 regeneration project for a new generation of buildings in the town. The scheme of residential flats comprises 196 apartments with a mix of private and affordable housing. With the support of the town planners, the focus of the design is a 25-storey elliptical tower. This structure is proposed to create a new urban landmark within the centre of Croydon. Devereux were appointed as lead consultant and architect by Howard Holdings plc, having previously designed residential schemes, most recently in Guildford, Surrey for the same client. The scheme is adjacent to a large hotel, Croydon Park Hotel, and there are shared recreational facilities accessible to all residents. It 100 parking spaces for residents of the apartment block. Park Hill Recreation Ground, a large urban park and ornamental gardens in Croydon, is located opposite the building. The Ashcroft Theatre and Fairfield Halls which provide theatre performances and concerts are both on the same road as Altitude 25.

Croydon College is a large further and higher education college located in Croydon, within the London Borough of Croydon. Its origins can be traced to a School of Art that was established in 1868, which subsequently merged with Croydon Polytechnic to create the college shortly after the Second World War. The college provides study programmes, apprenticeships and higher education courses at Croydon University Centre to over 10,000 enrolled students as of 2014, of which 3,400 are full-time. The college is the only Further Education College to have been awarded the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS).

The Ashcroft Theatre is a theatre located within the Fairfield Halls, Croydon, South London. The theatre was named after Croydon-born Dame Peggy Ashcroft and is a proscenium theatre with a stepped auditorium. The mural on its fire curtain is by the artist Henry Bird. A variety of productions are held throughout the year such as drama, ballet, opera and pantomime. The venue has a seating capacity of 763 and can be converted into a cinema as it has a large screen giving full Cinemascope and standard film format.The Ashcroft Theatre was opened on 5 November 1962 by Dame Peggy Ashcroft. The opening ceremony included the reading of a monologue specially penned by Sir John Betjeman called ‘Local Girl Makes Good'. The first play was ‘Royal Gambit' starring Dulcie Gray. Those to have trodden the boards at The Ashcroft Theatre include Richard Todd, Rex Harrison and Dame Peggy herself.The auditorium is on two tiers with the stalls heavily raked. The front of the circle is unadorned and the straight walls have natural finishes. The stage, with false proscenium, is well equipped with 30 single purchase counterweight sets for flying, and an orchestra pit on a hydraulic lift which can accommodate up to 16 players. Alterations to the forestage were undertaken to lessen the barrier provided by the original Juliet balcony and side door structures.The theatre closed in 2016 for renovation work on the Fairfield Halls, and reopened in September 2019. During the refurbishment, the centre aisles of the theatre were removed to create a Continental Auditorium seating arrangement, increasing capacity to 798 without kills. Further works in January 2020 replaced the recycled seating from before the renovation works with new grey seating, creating a much more modern look.

Fairfield Halls is an arts, entertainment and conference centre located in Croydon, London. It opened on 2 November 1962 and contains a theatre and gallery, and the large concert hall has been regularly used for BBC television, radio and orchestral recordings. Fairfield Halls closed for a £30 million redevelopment on 15 July 2016, and reopened on 16 September 2019. As part of the building's re-opening it was also announced that Talawa Theatre Company would relocate to the building, taking up a 200-seat theatre space and offices.Although the venue has been a major venue for professional music, plays, musicals, stand-up comedy and classical music, a significant proportion of Fairfield's programme has been for community events. It was frequently used by local schools as the venue for their annual choral concerts, as well as being regularly used by local music, opera, amateur dramatic and religious organisations. The Concert Hall features a cinema with Croydon's largest cinema screen. From January 2021 to July 2021, the Fairfield Halls was being used as a mass vaccination centre as part of the COVID-19 vaccination in the United Kingdom.

Croydon Underpass is an underpass located in Croydon, London. The road is part of the A212 which stretches from Catford to Forestdale. The underpass was constructed beneath the junction of George Street and Wellesley Road/Park Lane in the early 1960s. The underpass was built mainly to prevent traffic congestion on Park Lane above the underpass.The Nestlé Tower, a landmark in Croydon, is located on top of the underpass, along with the Fairfield Halls and Croydon Clocktower. A new Central Croydon Travelodge was opened in 2006, opposite the Whitgift Centre. The Croydon Flyover is very close to the underpass.

Park Hill Recreation Ground is a 15 acres (6.1 ha) park near the centre of Croydon, Greater London, managed by the London Borough of Croydon. It runs from Barclay Road to Coombe Road beside the railway line, with the main entrances on Water Tower Hill and Barclay Road. The nearest stations (equidistant to the park) are East Croydon to the north for Tramlink and National Rail services and South Croydon to the south for National Rail. The park was officially renamed as Park Hill in 1964.At the southern end, at the very top of the hill which forms the park, it joins the grounds of Coombe Cliff once the home of members of the Horniman Tea family. From there a steep drive winds down to Coombe Road where a footpath leads to South Croydon railway station for National Rail. The grounds now form part of the park and are open to the public, but the house itself, is not. As of October 2018, it is used for educational purposes. Where the drive meets Coombe Road there is a further entrance and a gatehouse, which is now privately owned for residential purposes. The house is grade II listed.Previously the site of a reservoir, the land became a public park in the 1880s. The park contains standard amenities, including refreshments and sports facilities, as well as a walled herb garden.In his memoirs, the Chronicles of Wasted Time (1973), Malcolm Muggeridge recalls the park as a childhood playground where he and his father often walked together and discussed socialism and world affairs.

St George's House (also known as the Nestlé Tower or Nestlé Block) is a 79-metre (259 ft) office tower located in Croydon, United Kingdom. It was occupied by the Swiss multinational food and consumer goods company Nestlé as the headquarters of Nestlé UK & Ireland until September 2012.
