Acton Tunnel

University House at the Australian National University (ANU) is the oldest residential college in ANU. It opened in 1954 for the faculty, staff, and postgraduate students of ANU.Currently, there are 60 doctoral students residing in its dormitory section. Parts of the House are also renovated into 150 hotel styled rooms for visitors. The University House is also listed as a heritage site by ANU, the Royal Australian Institute of Architects and the Government of Australia and is a nominee for heritage listing by the National Trust of Australia. Currently, the University House hosts various functions, a faculty club, and serves as a hotel and residence for postgraduate students.

The Acton Peninsula is located on the northern shore of Lake Burley Griffin, in the centre of Canberra, the capital of Australia. It was created when the lake was artificially built by damming the Molonglo River and excavating around it to create the desired shape. The Royal Canberra Hospital used to be prominently located there, jutting out prominently into the lake. The hospital was demolished in 1997, and replaced by the National Museum of Australia in 2001.

The Royal Canberra Hospital implosion was a failed building implosion that killed one person and injured nine others. The implosion occurred on 13 July 1997, when the city's superseded hospital buildings at Acton Peninsula on Lake Burley Griffin (that formerly constituted the Royal Canberra Hospital) were demolished to make way for the National Museum of Australia.

The Research School of Physics (RSPhys) was established with the creation of the Australian National University (ANU) in 1947. Located at the ANU's main campus in Canberra, the school is one of the four founding research schools in the ANU's Institute of Advanced Studies. As part of the Institute of Advanced Studies it is primarily a research school with limited interaction with the ANU's undergraduate students. With a total of around 200 employees the school has approximately 60 PhD students and 70 academic staff. The school is divided into separate research departments although PhD students can often be based in more than one department.

The John Curtin School of Medical Research (JCSMR) is an Australian multidisciplinary translational medical research institute and postgraduate education centre that forms part of the Australian National University (ANU) in Canberra. The school was founded in 1948 as a result of the vision of Nobel Laureate Sir Howard Florey and was named in honour of Australia's World War II Prime Minister John Curtin, who had died in office a few years earlier. In addition to Florey, Sir John Eccles (1963), Peter Doherty and Rolf M. Zinkernagel (1996), were Nobel Laureates as a result of research conducted at the JCSMR. Other notable researchers include Gordon Ada , Frank Fenner , Sir Hugh Ennor , David Roderick Curtis and Chris Goodnow . The Director of the School is Professor Graham Mann. The JCSMR comprises three divisions: the Division of Immunity, Inflammation and Infection, the Division of Genome Sciences and Cancer, and the Eccles Institute of Neuroscience.

The Australian Institute of Anatomy was a natural history museum and medical research institute that was founded in 1931 and disbanded in 1985. The institute's heritage-listed building, located in Acton, Canberra, in the Australian Capital Territory, Australia, has been occupied by the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) since October 1984. The building was added to the Commonwealth Heritage List on 22 June 2004.The Australian Institute of Anatomy (AIA) was established in October 1931 following the relocation of the National Museum of Australian Zoology from Melbourne to Canberra. The latter museum was a continuation of the Australian Institute of Anatomical Research, founded in 1919. This organisation was established by Colin Mackenzie to record Australia's native animals, which he feared were to soon become extinct. To further this aim, Mackenzie also established what is now known as Healesville Sanctuary. The AIA served as a natural history museum and conducted human nutrition research. It also cared for material belonging to the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. In 1980 the National Museum of Australia was established, with one of its aims being to inherit the AIA's collection, which it soon did. The NFSA moved into the building in October 1984, and the remaining Institute was abolished in December 1985.

Fractured Heart is an interactive sound and light sculpture designed and built by illuminart in collaboration with Gotye (Wouter 'Wally’ de Backer). It was first presented as the backdrop to his live performance of Somebody That I Used to Know with Kimbra at the 2011 ARIA Awards. The sculpture used mapped animated projections based on the music video that changed in time with Gotye's performance.Following the ARIA Awards, illuminart redesigned 'Fractured Heart' as a separate interactive light and sound sculpture for Vivid Sydney – A Festival of Light, Music & Ideas, in 2012. According to Gotye, the design is loosely based on taking fractal elements of an illustration of a two-part broken heart, created by his father and included in the Making Mirrors album artwork. People can interact with the sculpture through physical movement, using their body and hand gestures to remix sound loops and mapped projections. One of Gotye's objectives when designing the sculpture was that even non-musicians could stand if front of it and feel like they were mixing the sounds, and get a clear sense of how the song breaks down.It is the redesigned Fractured Heart that is now installed at the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) headquarters in Canberra. Visitors of the NFSA can ‘remix’ Gotye's songs Somebody That I Used to Know and State of The Art in real time using their bodies to trigger sounds and light animations.

The Art of Sound is an exhibition which was developed in 2013 by the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA) in collaboration with art galleries in Australia to explore the use of sound in the visual arts. The curators at the NSFA compiled a sound palette, which comprises a wide variety of Australian audio recordings from the NFSA's sound collection. There are music, speeches, and sounds from the environment. The curators at partner art galleries search the sound palette to find audio material that would complement their individual artworks and combine them for unique audience experiences at each gallery. The gallery partners in the project in 2013 were: the Grafton Regional Gallery in northern NSW the Holmes à Court Gallery at Vasse Felix in Margaret River, WAAs a national institution, the NSFA uses exhibitions, film festivals and touring projects to provide access to its collection of audiovisual materials to the people in regional Australia. The Art of Sound was supported by the National Collecting Institutions Touring and Outreach Program (an Australian Government program which supports projects that make collections available to all Australians).

The National Film and Sound Archive of Australia (NFSA), known as ScreenSound Australia from 1999 to 2004, is Australia's audiovisual archive, responsible for developing, preserving, maintaining, promoting and providing access to a national collection of film, television, sound, radio, video games, new media, and related documents and artefacts. The collection ranges from works created in the late nineteenth century when the recorded sound and film industries were in their infancy, to those made in the present day. The NFSA collection first started as the National Historical Film and Speaking Record Library (within the then Commonwealth National Library) in 1935, becoming an independent cultural organisation in 1984. On 3 October, Prime Minister Bob Hawke officially opened the NFSA's headquarters in Canberra.

The Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs is a constituent of the College of Asia and the Pacific, but was formerly part of the Research School of Pacific and Asian Studies, ANU, which was founded in 1946 as part of the Institute of Advanced Studies at the Australian National University in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. In 2015 it was renamed in honour of Coral Bell, a leading Australian scholar of international politics.

The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS), established as the Australian Institute of Aboriginal Studies (AIAS) in 1964, is an independent Australian Government statutory authority. It is a collecting, publishing and research institute and is considered to be Australia's premier resource for information about the cultures and societies of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The institute is a leader in ethical research and the handling of culturally sensitive material and holds in its collections many unique and irreplaceable items of cultural, historical and spiritual significance. The collection at AIATSIS has been built through over 50 years of research and engagement with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and is now a source of language and culture revitalisation, native title research and family and community history. AIATSIS is located on Acton Peninsula in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.

The ANU College of Law is the law school at the Australian National University and one of the seven academic Colleges of the ANU. It is located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. This provides the College with opportunities to connect with the work of the Parliament of Australia, the High Court of Australia, the departments and agencies of the Federal Government, as well as the local ACT law-making institutions – the Legislative Assembly and the ACT courts.The ANU College of Law is a premier law school in Australia. It is ranked 4th nationally and equal 17th in the world according to the 2021 QS World University Rankings by Subject.The Dean of the College is Professor Anthony Connolly.
