Mount Nebo, a tall hill that is part of the Illawarra Range, is located in the foothills of the Illawarra escarpment on the edge of the suburban fringe of the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. At 251 metres (823 ft) above sea level, the hill is reached by the steep O'Brien's Road from the suburb of Figtree.

Unanderra, New South Wales

Unanderra ( YOU-nən-derr-ə) is a suburb of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 6 km south-west of the Wollongong CBD. It is bordered to the west by Farmborough, Cordeaux Heights and Farmborough Heights in the Mount Kembla foothills, the north by Figtree, the east by Berkeley and Flagstaff Hill, site of the Nan Tien Temple, and the south by Kembla Grange. Unanderra is both a residential suburb, mostly to the west of the Princes Highway and industrial, to the east. Along the highway is a strip of shops, including Woolworths and several speciality stores. Two distinctive and beautiful buildings in Unanderra are the Catholic Church and the Syriac Orthodox Church. The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was opened in 1954 and subsequently extended in 1997 and is located at 48 Princes Highway, Unanderra. Saint Thomas Syriac Orthodox Church in Central Road, Unanderra, was opened in 2007. Unanderra has several local attractions including an old school building, several historic houses and a community centre. The community centre is housed in the former Central Illawarra Municipal Council Chambers, opened in 1901. This operated until the merging of the North Illawarra and Central Illawarra chambers to create the City of Greater Wollongong in 1947. The Unanderra Branch Library opened in 1955 within the centre and was enlarged in 1960. The suburb lies on the Illawarra coastal plain, with its west border in the lower foothills of Mount Kembla. From the highway it is possible to see Mount Kembla and it has a distinctly different shape compared to other views of it.

Farmborough Heights, New South Wales

Farmborough Heights is a southern, medium-high wealth suburb in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated to the west of Unanderra in the foothills of Mount Kembla. The suburb mainly consists of separate residential dwellings, but also has a general store. It once had a take away, though the take away and many other stores were demolished in 2010 to make room for more housing. Farmborough Heights is situated on two ridges, both are the lesser slopes of Mount Kembla. The main access road to the suburb is Farmborough Road. However, Waples Road and Panorama Drive also provide major access to the suburb. According to the 2016 census there are 4,198 people residing in Farmborough Heights, with 2,028 (48.4%) being males, and 2,165 (51.6%) being females.Subdivisions in the last 10–15 years have seen the establishment of more substantial residences. Many of the homes in Farmborough Heights enjoy the elevated location and views of both the sea and mountains. Farmborough Road Public School is the local government primary school located in the adjoining suburb of Unanderra, and is also home to the Families at Farmborough Community Centre catering for children of preschool age. Illawarra Sports High in Berkeley is the local government high school. Figtree High School is the next closest High School located just 4 kilometres away. Church based school options include Cedars and St Pius primary schools; and St Mary's Star of the Sea, Edmund Rice, Illawarra Christian School, Holy Spirit or Corpus Christi high schools. Farmborough was originally 3 separate farms. These farmhouses are still standing today. One is on Silvertop, one is on Farmborough Road (approx. 300 metres from the general store) and one is located just to the east of Coachwood Drive. These were the three original houses of Farmborough. Today, 2000+ houses are on land once owned by three different farmers.

West Wollongong, New South Wales

West Wollongong is the innermost western suburb of the coastal city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is mainly a residential area, serviced by a small commercial strip with a music store, chicken shop, electric goods store and carpet store along the Princes Highway with several petrol stations, two restaurants, a liquor store, a chemist and a flower shop. Schools in the area include Wollongong West Public School, St Therese Primary School, The Illawarra grammar school, and Edmund Rice College (an all-boys secondary college). St Marks Anglican Church serves the area of West Wollongong in a variety of ways. The church runs an EFL class (English for Life), Food and friends, Playgroup, Youthgroup, Mother's Union, University Student Housing, Soccer teams' as well as their three services on a Sunday (8am, 10am and 5pm) that cater for a variety of ages including children. The church is open during the week with Saint's Espresso and a playground for people to connect with and to support the community. (see James Ulrich the local church historian for more details) It is the location of the Mount Keira Road turnoff from the Princes Highway, incidentally the westernmost end of Crown Street. Illawarra Institute of TAFE also has a campus at West Wollongong with a focus on Information Technology, Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Arts and Media, Fashion Technologies, Meat and Allied Trades.
