Unanderra railway station

Unanderra ( YOU-nən-derr-ə) is a suburb of Wollongong in New South Wales, Australia. It is located approximately 6 km south-west of the Wollongong CBD. It is bordered to the west by Farmborough, Cordeaux Heights and Farmborough Heights in the Mount Kembla foothills, the north by Figtree, the east by Berkeley and Flagstaff Hill, site of the Nan Tien Temple, and the south by Kembla Grange. Unanderra is both a residential suburb, mostly to the west of the Princes Highway and industrial, to the east. Along the highway is a strip of shops, including Woolworths and several speciality stores. Two distinctive and beautiful buildings in Unanderra are the Catholic Church and the Syriac Orthodox Church. The Immaculate Conception Catholic Church was opened in 1954 and subsequently extended in 1997 and is located at 48 Princes Highway, Unanderra. Saint Thomas Syriac Orthodox Church in Central Road, Unanderra, was opened in 2007. Unanderra has several local attractions including an old school building, several historic houses and a community centre. The community centre is housed in the former Central Illawarra Municipal Council Chambers, opened in 1901. This operated until the merging of the North Illawarra and Central Illawarra chambers to create the City of Greater Wollongong in 1947. The Unanderra Branch Library opened in 1955 within the centre and was enlarged in 1960. The suburb lies on the Illawarra coastal plain, with its west border in the lower foothills of Mount Kembla. From the highway it is possible to see Mount Kembla and it has a distinctly different shape compared to other views of it.

Fo Guang Shan Nan Tien Temple (Chinese: 佛光山南天寺; pinyin: Fóguāngshān Nántiān Sì; lit. 'Southern Heaven Temple') is a Buddhist temple complex located in Berkeley, on the southern outskirts of the Australian city of Wollongong, approximately 80 kilometres (50 mi) south of Sydney.Nan Tien is one of the branch temples of the Taiwanese Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order, founded in 1967 by Hsing Yun, which has over 120 branches worldwide. The temple is one of the largest Buddhist temples in the southern hemisphere.

Figtree High School is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive secondary day school, located on Gibsons Road in Figtree, a suburb of Wollongong, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1969, the school enrolled approximately 900 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom five percent identified as Indigenous Australians and 26 percent were from a language background other than English. The school is operated by the New South Wales Department of Education.

Cordeaux Heights is a suburb in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated on the eastern foothills of Mount Kembla as is its southern neighbour Farmborough Heights. Its northern boundary of housing is along Cordeaux Road which goes to Mount Kembla Village. Cordeaux Heights has several shops, including a cafe, supermarket/takeaway, bottle shop, hairdresser, dentist and pizzeria.

Illawarra Christian School (ICS) is a co-educational Christian parent-controlled school in Cordeaux Heights, Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia that was established in 1982 and it offers from Preschool to Year 12 education. It began its Prep program in 2008. The school currently caters for more than 650 students across all years.

Figtree is an inner western suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is south-west of West Wollongong and connected to Wollongong by the Princes Highway There is a small commercial district near this junction and another connected area of mainly food stores further north on the highway near the freeway entrance. There is also another commercial area with a chicken food shop, liquor store and video rental store on the east side of the highway at the O'Briens Road junction. Figtree has a hotel, an oval, many specialty stores, a dog park, a private hospital and several schools. A smaller area of residences in Figtree is Figtree Heights, a neighbourhood which is slightly raised above the general level of Figtree. To the suburb's south between Figtree and Unanderra is Cobbler's Hill, where houses have been built on its side.

John Crehan Park is a multi-use stadium in the southern part of Wollongong, Australia. The stadium is on Merret Avenue, Cringila. It is currently used mostly for football matches. It is the home of New South Wales Premier League side Wollongong FC and Illawarra Premier League side Cringila Lions FC. It was once the temporary home ground of the Rockdale Ilinden Football Club as their regular home ground was disrupted by near-by construction. The stadium includes one stand on one long side and a small function room behind one goal. There is also a second ground. The stadium holds 7,500 people.

Berkeley is a suburb of Wollongong, New South Wales. The suburb is located in Wollongong's southern suburbs, on the northern shore of Lake Illawarra, and is one of the city's most populous suburbs. At the 2016 census, it had a population of 7,605.

Farmborough Heights is a southern, medium-high wealth suburb in the city of Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. It is situated to the west of Unanderra in the foothills of Mount Kembla. The suburb mainly consists of separate residential dwellings, but also has a general store. It once had a take away, though the take away and many other stores were demolished in 2010 to make room for more housing. Farmborough Heights is situated on two ridges, both are the lesser slopes of Mount Kembla. The main access road to the suburb is Farmborough Road. However, Waples Road and Panorama Drive also provide major access to the suburb. According to the 2016 census there are 4,198 people residing in Farmborough Heights, with 2,028 (48.4%) being males, and 2,165 (51.6%) being females.Subdivisions in the last 10–15 years have seen the establishment of more substantial residences. Many of the homes in Farmborough Heights enjoy the elevated location and views of both the sea and mountains. Farmborough Road Public School is the local government primary school located in the adjoining suburb of Unanderra, and is also home to the Families at Farmborough Community Centre catering for children of preschool age. Illawarra Sports High in Berkeley is the local government high school. Figtree High School is the next closest High School located just 4 kilometres away. Church based school options include Cedars and St Pius primary schools; and St Mary's Star of the Sea, Edmund Rice, Illawarra Christian School, Holy Spirit or Corpus Christi high schools. Farmborough was originally 3 separate farms. These farmhouses are still standing today. One is on Silvertop, one is on Farmborough Road (approx. 300 metres from the general store) and one is located just to the east of Coachwood Drive. These were the three original houses of Farmborough. Today, 2000+ houses are on land once owned by three different farmers.

Illawarra Sports High School is a government-funded co-educational comprehensive and specialist secondary day school, with speciality in sports, located in Berkeley, a southern suburb of Wollongong, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. Established in 1956 as the Berkeley High School, the school changed its name in 1998 in line with becoming a sports-oriented school. The Illawarra Sports High School caters for approximately 740 students in 2018, from Year 7 to Year 12, of whom 13 percent identified as Indigenous Australians and 27 percent were from a language background other than English. The school draws the majority of its students from the southern Wollongong area; with an increasing number of students from the larger Illawarra area who access its specialist sports programs. The school is operated by the New South Wales Department of Education; the principal is Gary Hampton. Illawarra Sports High School is a member of the NSW Sports High Schools Association.

Mount Saint Thomas is a suburb of Wollongong in New South Wales, lying east of Figtree and South west of Wollongong. At the 2021 census, it had a population of 1,449.During World War II, the Drummond Battery was constructed in the suburb as part of the defences for Port Kembla.
