Wilkeson School

The Wilkeson Coke Ovens are from the early industrial period in Washington. The ovens are a result of the growth of the railroad in Puget Sound. Washington's coal industry was an enterprise with much promise but has never grown. It has remains a subdued element in the history of the Puget Sound Region. The Pierce County beehive coke ovens, of which those at Wilkeson were the most numerous and active, were the sole supply of coke in the coastal area. The coke ovens were added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 10, 1974.

Holy Trinity Orthodox Church is a historic church in Wilkeson, Washington. The church was founded by Eastern European Slavic immigrants from the Carpathian Mountains of eastern Czechoslovakia. It was built in a Gothic Revival style and was added to the National Register in 1989. Holy Trinity Orthodox Church is the oldest Orthodox church in Washington State. The building is a simple design that blends the lines of an American Gothic meetinghouse with the onion dome and interior iconography of the Slavic Orthodox faith. The church has served the Eastern European community across the mining towns of eastern Pierce County.

Wilkeson Arch is a monumental gateway structure at the west entrance to Wilkeson, Washington. The stone and timber structure was built in 1925 by the Wilkeson Booster Club, at a cost of $2000. It is similar in design to the Chinook Pass, Nisqually and White River entrance arches in nearby Mount Rainier National Park, deriving its style from the National Park Service Rustic style prevailing in the national park structures of the time. The arch was intended to promote tourism and the local products, coal and sandstone.

Carbonado () is a town in Pierce County, Washington, United States. It is located near the Carbon River in the north of the county, approximately 50 miles (80 km) southeast of Seattle. Carbonado is the last town before entering Mount Rainier National Park and is also a popular spot for off-roading. The town also served as an important coal mining community in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, when the town operated the largest coal mine in Pierce County. The population was 734 at the 2020 census.

Burnett is an unincorporated community in Pierce County, Washington, United States. It is located just south of Buckley, Washington. It is on State Route 165 between Buckley, Washington and Mount Rainier National Park. A post office called Burnett was established in 1888, and remained in operation until 1927. The community was named for Charles Hiram Burnett, Sr., a businessperson in the coal-mining industry.There is private active grass airport in Burnett called Burnett Landing.

White River High School is a public secondary school located on an 84-acre (34 ha) site just outside Buckley, Washington, United States. Before 1949, it was known as "Buckley High School" but with a merger with "Enumclaw High School" in neighboring Enumclaw, the school became known as White River. In 1952, the voters (especially the Chamber of Commerce) of the City of Enumclaw voted to form their own district.

Pierce County is a county in the U.S. state of Washington. As of the 2020 census, the population was 921,130, up from 795,225 in 2010, making it the second-most populous county in Washington, behind King County, and the 60th-most populous in the United States. The county seat and largest city is Tacoma. Formed out of Thurston County on December 22, 1852, by the legislature of Oregon Territory, it was named for U.S. President Franklin Pierce. Pierce County is in the Seattle metropolitan area (formally the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue, WA, metropolitan statistical area). Pierce County is home to the volcano Mount Rainier, the tallest mountain in the Cascade Range. Its most recent recorded eruption was between 1820 and 1854. There is no imminent risk of eruption, but geologists expect that the volcano will erupt again. If this should happen, parts of Pierce County and the Puyallup Valley would be at risk from lahars, lava, or pyroclastic flows. The Mount Rainier Volcano Lahar Warning System was established in 1998 to assist in the evacuation of the Puyallup River valley in case of eruption.
