2024 World Masters Athletics Championshipsis the 25th in a series of World Masters Athletics Outdoor Championships (WMAC) that will place in Gothenburg, Sweden from 13 to 25 August 2024. This Championships was originally scheduled for 2023, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The main venue is Slottsskogsvallen. Supplemental venues include Ullevi Stadium, Björlanda Athletics Center "invented thanks to the WMAC", Slottsskogen City Park for Road Walks, Half Marathon, and Cross Country, and House of Athletics for training and preparations. This Championships is organized by World Masters Athletics (WMA) in coordination with a Local Organising Committee (LOC). Details of this competition will be finalized following the 2023 General Assembly that will be held in Gothenburg. The WMA is the global governing body of the sport of athletics for athletes 35 years of age or older, setting rules for masters athletics competition.

1977 World Masters Athletics Championships is the second in a series of World Masters Athletics Outdoor Championships (called World Masters Championships or World Veterans Championships at the time) that took place in Gothenburg, Sweden, from 8 to 13 August 1977.The main venue was Slottsskogsvallen. : 1 : 46  Supplemental venues included Ullevi Stadium for 5K and 10K races, the former Gothenburg-Särö railroad route for Marathon, and the park around Björngårdsvillan for Cross Country and Road Walks. Slottsskogsvallen (Swedish: [ˈslɔ̂tːskuːɡsˌvalːɛn], "The Castle Forest Field") is a multi-use stadium in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is currently used mostly for football and athletics. It was the home ground of Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC till 2006. The stadium has a capacity of 8,480, and was built in 1923. It is considered one of the most beautiful arenas in Sweden. It hosted the second Women's World Games in 1926. The Swedish athlete Gunder Hägg started his record-breaking streak at Slotsskogsvallen in 1942. The annual half marathon race, Göteborgsvarvet, the world's largest half marathon race, finishes in the arena. The annual Göteborg Marathon starts and finishes in the arena.

Slottsskogen (Swedish: [ˈslɔ̂tːˌskuːɡɛn], "Castle Forest") is a 137-hectare park located in central Gothenburg, Sweden.

Slottskogens djurpark is a Swedish zoo in the park Slottsskogen, located in the town Gothenburg in Sweden. It is a member of the European Association of Zoos and Aquaria (EAZA).Partially opened for public in 1876, Slottskogens djurpark is one of the oldest zoos in Sweden. There is no entrance fee charged. Among the species displayed is Swedish animals, a pond with seals and penguins. During summer season, a children zoo is open, where children can meet animals like goats, sheep and pigs.

Högsbo is a city district of Gothenburg located on the Swedish west coast. Högsbo is situated southwest of the city centre of Gothenburg. The centre of Högsbo is Axel Dahlströms torg which consists of a small shopping square and connections with the Västtrafik tram system.

Masthugget Church (Swedish: Masthuggskyrkan) in Gothenburg, Sweden, was built in 1914. Its position on a high hill (Masthugget) close to the city and near the Göta älv makes it a striking sight – the church tower is 60 m (200 ft) high in itself. The church represents the National Romantic style in Nordic architecture and was designed by Sigfrid Ericson. The church, which has become one of the symbols of Gothenburg, is a popular tourist attraction.

Majorna (pronunciation) is a residential area in Gothenburg, Sweden. It is a part of the borough Majorna-Linné. It is located west of the city just outside the city centre, with Göta älv in the north, Masthugget and Slottsskogen in the east, Högsbo in the south and Älvsborg in the west.

The Annedal Church (Swedish: Annedalskyrkan) is a church building in Annedal in Gothenburg, Sweden. Belonging to the Gothenburg Annedal Parish of the Church of Sweden, construction begun in 1908 and the church was opened on Thanksgiving Day, 25 September 1910 by bishop Edvard Herman Rodhe.

On 15 February 1932, three people were killed and seven others wounded in an explosion at an apartment building in Gothenburg, Sweden. Investigators determined that Bernhard Johansson, whose ex-wife lived in the complex, had intentionally detonated explosives to kill her. He was found dead of self-inflicted injuries that morning.

Oscar Fredrik Church (Swedish: Oscar Fredriks kyrka) is a church in Olivedal in Gothenburg, Sweden. It was drawn by Helgo Zetterwall and erected in the 1890s. Belonging to the Gothenburg Oscar Fredrik Parish of the Church of Sweden, it was opened on Easter Sunday 1893. The style is Neo Gothic, but the influence is not the Nordic gothic style but rather the style one can find in the large cathedrals in continental Europe. The church and the parish got its name from king Oscar II (Oscar Fredrik being his full name).
