St James and St Anne's Church, Alfington

Alfington is a small village in East Devon, on the River Otter. It is 2 miles (3 km) north-east of Ottery St Mary. The church of St James (Church of England) was built of brick in the Early English style in 1849–52 to designs by the architect William Butterfield.

The parish of Feniton incorporates the hamlets of Colesworthy, Higher Cheriton and Curscombe. It covers an area of 644 hectares (1591 acres), and is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Payhembury, Buckerell, Gittisham, Ottery St Mary and Talaton. At the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,796, decreasing to 1,568 at the 2011 Census.The 2012 draft East Devon Local Plan recorded 716 houses within the Built Up Area Boundary. Feniton is a major part of the electoral ward called "Feniton and Buckerell". The total population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,274.

Feniton railway station serves the village of Feniton in Devon, England. It was opened by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) in 1860 but is now operated by South Western Railway which provides services on the West of England Main Line. It is 159 miles 24 chains (256.4 km) down the line from London Waterloo.

Pomeroy Wood is the site near Honiton in Devon of a Roman military site of unknown type, probably either a fort or marching camp, though archaeological investigations have proved inconclusive. The site is at SY1399. The site was investigated during improvements to the A30 Honiton to Exeter road in the late 1990s. A rampart made of earth and timber was found and outside were two deep ditches with narrow ankle breakers at their bases. Preserved biological finds indicate that the garrison included a cavalry unit.Rubbings of samian ware found at Pomeroy Wood can be viewed at the Study Group for Roman Pottery website.

Ottery St Mary, known as "Ottery", is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John, Wiggaton, and (until 2017) West Hill, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898.There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural and Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the 2011 census was 9,022.The town as it now stands has several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. There are pubs, restaurants, and coffee and tea rooms. Ottery provides services, employment, and a wide range of shopping for local residents and visitors from nearby villages and towns.

Deer Park Country House near Honiton, Devon is a house of historical significance and is Grade II listed on the English Heritage Register. It was built in the early 1700s by a wealthy landowner and was the home of many notable people over the next two centuries. Today it is a venue for special events including conferences and weddings.

The River Tale is a small river that drains the southern slopes of the Blackdown Hills, in Devon, England. It is a tributary of the River Otter and 8.8 miles (14.2 km) in length. Its name is derived from getæl (Old English) meaning "quick, active or swift"; however, the river is noted as being "sluggish". One theory is that its name was transferred from Tala Water, a tributary of the nearby River Tamar. The river is the site of ongoing efforts to reintroduce the water vole, which is thought to be extinct in Devon.
