Alfington

St James' and St Anne's Church is a Church of England church in Alfington, Devon, England. It was built in 1849 at the expense of Sir John Taylor Coleridge and designed by William Butterfield. The church became Grade II listed in 1952. Historic England describes it as a "relatively early" work from Butterfield and "modest" compared to his more elaborate designs from the same period, such as All Saints' Church in London. The exterior is considered "unusual in its austerity and singular treatment of the belfry".

Ottery St Mary, known as "Ottery", is a town and civil parish in the East Devon district of Devon, England, on the River Otter, about 10 miles (16 km) east of Exeter on the B3174. At the 2001 census, the parish, which includes the villages of Metcombe, Fairmile, Alfington, Tipton St John, Wiggaton, and (until 2017) West Hill, had a population of 7,692. The population of the urban area alone at the 2011 census was 4,898.There are two electoral wards in Ottery (Rural and Town). The total population of both wards, including the adjacent civil parish of Aylesbeare, at the 2011 census was 9,022.The town as it now stands has several independent shops, mainly in Mill Street, Silver Street and Yonder Street. An area known as 'The Square', is the heart of Ottery St Mary. There are pubs, restaurants, and coffee and tea rooms. Ottery provides services, employment, and a wide range of shopping for local residents and visitors from nearby villages and towns.

Feniton is a village and civil parish in East Devon in the English county of Devon. The village lies about 4 miles (6.4 km) west of Honiton, 3 miles (4.8 km) north of Ottery St Mary, and 2 miles (3.2 km) east of Talaton. The parish of Feniton incorporates the hamlets of Colesworthy, Higher Cheriton and Curscombe. It covers an area of 644 hectares (1591 acres), and is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Payhembury, Buckerell, Gittisham, Ottery St Mary and Talaton. At the 2001 census the parish had a population of 1,796, decreasing to 1,568 at the 2011 Census.The 2012 draft East Devon Local Plan recorded 716 houses within the Built Up Area Boundary. Feniton is a major part of the electoral ward called "Feniton and Buckerell". The total population of this ward at the 2011 census was 2,274.

Feniton railway station serves the village of Feniton in Devon, England. In the 2001 census a population of 270 was recorded for the parish, which is surrounded clockwise from the north by the parishes of Awliscombe, Honiton, Gittisham, Feniton and Payhembury.

The River Tale is a small river that drains the southern slopes of the Blackdown Hills, in Devon, England. It is a tributary of the River Otter and 8.8 miles (14.2 km) in length. Its name is derived from getæl (Old English) meaning "quick, active or swift"; however, the river is noted as being "sluggish". One theory is that its name was transferred from Tala Water, a tributary of the nearby River Tamar. The river is the site of ongoing efforts to reintroduce the water vole, which is thought to be extinct in Devon.

The Tumbling Weir is a circular weir in the town of Ottery St. Mary, Devon, England that allows water from a leat or man-made stream to reach the River Otter. It is apparently a rare design in that the water enters through a circular opening at the top that is surrounded by the stream. The water then cascades down some more smaller rings until it enters a culvert which enters a tunnel under the nearby path before sluicing down to the river a few metres away.

Pomeroy Wood is the site near Honiton in Devon of a Roman military site of unknown type, probably either a fort or marching camp, though archaeological investigations have proved inconclusive. The site is at SY1399. The site was investigated during improvements to the A30 Honiton to Exeter road in the late 1990s. A rampart made of earth and timber was found and outside were two deep ditches with narrow ankle breakers at their bases. Gittisham is a village and civil parish in Devon near Honiton. The village is 3 miles (5 km) from Ottery St Mary and it has a church called St Michael. The parish is surrounded, clockwise from the north, by the parishes of Awliscombe, Honiton, Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary, Feniton and Buckerell.
