Hawthorn East is a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, 7 km (4.3 mi) east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Boroondara local government area. Hawthorn East recorded a population of 14,834 at the 2021 census.The suburb is roughly bounded by Barkers Road to the north, Burke Road to the east, Toorak Road and the Monash Freeway to the south and Auburn Road to the west. Hawthorn East is the home of a number of head offices for some of Australia's largest companies, including Coles and Bunnings.

Camberwell tram depot is located on Council Street, Hawthorn East, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Opened in December 1929, it is operated by Yarra Trams. It is one of eight tram depots on the Melbourne tram network.

Rivoli Cinemas (also known as Rivoli Theatre and New Rivoli Theatre) is an eight-screen multiplex in the Hawthorn East suburb of Melbourne. Noted for its Art Deco architecture, the cinema was first built in 1940, and reopened as a multiplex in 2000 following a renovation and expansion.

Our Lady of Victories Basilica is a Catholic church located in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. Romanesque in style, it was designed by architect Augustus Andrew Fritsch (1866 – 1933) and was completed in 1918. It is one of five churches in Australia with minor basilica status. The current parish priest is Rev. Brendan Reed. Our Lady of Victories occupies an imposing site in Burke Road and, in a city where most churches of the era are built in the Gothic Revival style, has a distinctive copper clad dome completed with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary.

The area is renowned for its outstanding commercial Victorian architecture, including the "Auburn Hotel" (formerly the "Geebung Polo Club"), a giant 3-storey coffee palace in the Second Empire style built in 1888, part of a well-preserved streetscape on Auburn Road. Auburn Post Office opened on 10 April 1893.The area is serviced by Auburn railway station.

Camberwell Town Hall is located, on Camberwell Road, Camberwell, an inner eastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The Town Hall was built in 1891 in the free classical style and features Second Empire influences in the steep pitch of the clock tower's pyramidal mansard roof. A timepiece was absent from the clock tower until the donation of a £300 clock in 1924.After the amalgamation of the City of Camberwell with the Cities of Hawthorn and Kew on 22 June 1994 to form the City of Boroondara, the Town Hall with the Camberwell Civic Centre became the main municipal offices.

Formerly known as Hawthorn Secondary College, it was re-established under its current name in January 2014.Auburn High School is the only Victorian government secondary school to be offering a Binational French program. Students in this program not only learn French, but learn in French according to the French National Curriculum. The Binational French program is a select-entry, internationally recognised program which offers students a dynamic and modern approach to language learning by merging French and Australian pedagogy in classes. Established in 1942 in Carlton North, Victoria, the school has had a Zionist orientation since its inception, with the establishment of the State of Israel central to its identity. Alia College is an independent co-educational alternative secondary school located in Hawthorn East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia . The school is built around values of tolerance, creativity, self-expression, respect and responsibility. Advertising itself as a "non rule-based school", Alia College does not have a school uniform, allows its students to leave the school premises and does not impose any formal punishments such as detentions. Despite this unorthodox approach, however, Alia teaches a standard curriculum, with Latin being a compulsory subject (7-9).

Auburn railway station is located on the Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn East, and it opened on 3 April 1882 as Auburn Road. It was renamed Auburn on 1 September 1882.The current two-storey station building dates back to 1916, when the line between Hawthorn and Camberwell was regraded. It features brick and stucco facades punctuated by arches, and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.In 1963, a third line was provided between Hawthorn and Camberwell. These works included a new Up platform (Platform 1), with Platform 2 becoming a bi-directional platform.
