Hawthorn East, Victoria

The electoral district of Hawthorn is an electoral district of the Victorian Legislative Assembly. It was first proclaimed in 1888 taking effect at the 1889 elections. The electorate is located to the east of Melbourne and centres on the suburb of Hawthorn, after which it is named. It also includes parts of Camberwell, Burwood and Glen Iris. It has usually been a safe seat for the Liberal Party and its predecessors, having been held by a number of leaders and senior ministers. With the exception of two occasions when Liberal MPs defected and sat as independents, it has only been held by non-Liberal MPs three times in its history: independent Leslie Hollins from 1940 to 1945, Labor-turned-Labor (Anti-Communist) MP Charles Murphy from 1952 to 1955, and since 2018, when Labor candidate John Kennedy won the seat for the first time in 63 years in a major upset. Notable former members for Hawthorn include former premiers Sir William McPherson and Ted Baillieu, as well as Walter Jona, a minister in the Hamer government

Camberwell tram depot is located on Council Street, Hawthorn East, a suburb of Melbourne, Australia. Opened in December 1929, it is operated by Yarra Trams. It is one of eight tram depots on the Melbourne tram network.

Rivoli Cinemas (also known as Rivoli Theatre and New Rivoli Theatre) is an eight-screen multiplex in the Hawthorn East suburb of Melbourne. Noted for its Art Deco architecture, the cinema was first built in 1940, and reopened as a multiplex in 2000 following a renovation and expansion.

Camberwell Junction is a major intersection in Melbourne, Australia. It is at the intersection of Burke, Riversdale and Camberwell Roads. Trams that pass through the junction are the 70, 72 and 75. The Junction is approximately 500 metres south of Camberwell railway station on the Belgrave, Lilydale and Alamein lines. Auburn is an unbounded neighbourhood of the suburb of Hawthorn, Melbourne, Australia, in the state of Victoria. Its postcode is 3123. It is in the local government areas of the City of Boroondara. The area is renowned for its outstanding commercial Victorian architecture, including the "Auburn Hotel" (formerly the "Geebung Polo Club"), a giant 3-storey coffee palace in the Second Empire style built in 1888, part of a well-preserved streetscape on Auburn Road. Auburn Post Office opened on 10 April 1893.The area is serviced by Auburn railway station.

Our Lady of Victories Basilica is a Catholic church located in the Melbourne suburb of Camberwell. Romanesque in style, it was designed by architect Augustus Andrew Fritsch (1866 – 1933) and was completed in 1918. It is one of five churches in Australia with minor basilica status. The current parish priest is Rev. Brendan Reed. Our Lady of Victories occupies an imposing site in Burke Road and, in a city where most churches of the era are built in the Gothic Revival style, has a distinctive copper clad dome completed with a golden statue of the Virgin Mary.

Auburn railway station is located on the Lilydale, Belgrave and Alamein lines in Victoria, Australia. It serves the eastern Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn East, and it opened on 3 April 1882 as Auburn Road. It was renamed Auburn on 1 September 1882.The current two-storey station building dates back to 1916, when the line between Hawthorn and Camberwell was regraded. It features brick and stucco facades punctuated by arches, and is listed on the Victorian Heritage Register.In 1963, a third line was provided between Hawthorn and Camberwell. These works included a new Up platform (Platform 1), with Platform 2 becoming a bi-directional platform.

Camberwell Town Hall is located, on Camberwell Road, Camberwell, an inner eastern suburb of Melbourne, Australia. The Town Hall was built in 1891 in the free classical style and features Second Empire influences in the steep pitch of the clock tower's pyramidal mansard roof. A timepiece was absent from the clock tower until the donation of a £300 clock in 1924.After the amalgamation of the City of Camberwell with the Cities of Hawthorn and Kew on 22 June 1994 to form the City of Boroondara, the Town Hall with the Camberwell Civic Centre became the main municipal offices.

Auburn High School is a public co-educational high school located in Hawthorn East, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, serving Year 7 to Year 12. Formerly known as Hawthorn Secondary College, it was re-established under its current name in January 2014.Auburn High School is the only Victorian government secondary school to be offering a Binational French program. Students in this program not only learn French, but learn in French according to the French National Curriculum. The Binational French program is a select-entry, internationally recognised program which offers students a dynamic and modern approach to language learning by merging French and Australian pedagogy in classes. The French Binational programme is fully accredited by the AEFE.Its school zone includes the suburbs of Toorak, Springvale, Armadale, Malvern, Malvern East, Watergardens, Caulfield North, Burnley, Kooyong, Kew South, Hawthorn, Hawthorn East, Camberwell, Glenorchy and Glen Iris. Auburn High School is a TAAS accredited SEAL school. The program provides highly capable students with the opportunity to complete years 7–10 in three years instead of four. They may then be able to choose to do a three-year enriched and extended VCE program and a university enhancement subject in Year 12, equivalent to a first-year university subject.

Swinburne Senior Secondary College is a co-educational government secondary college located at 505 Burwood Road Hawthorn Victoria which caters for Years 11 and 12 students. The College offers Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL).

Bialik College is an independent comprehensive co-educational early learning, primary and secondary Jewish day school, located in the Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn East, Victoria, Australia. Established in 1942 in Carlton North, Victoria, the school has had a Zionist orientation since its inception, with the establishment of the State of Israel central to its identity.
