Ramna Kali Mandir

Ramna massacre (Bengali: রমনা হত্যাকান্ড) was the massacre of the Hindus who lived in the region around the Ramna Kali temple by the Pakistani army on the night of 27 March 1971. It is estimated that around 250 Hindus were killed in the massacre.

Shahbaz Khan Mosque is a historic mosque located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Located near Mir Jumla’s Gate, this mosque serves as an example of late Mughal architecture in Bengal, known as the Shaista Khan architectural style.

The Mausoleum of Three Leaders (Bengali: তিন নেতার মাজার, also known as the Suhrawardy Udyan National Memorial), located at Shahbag, Dhaka in Bangladesh, contains the graves of three prominent leaders of Pakistan Movement from Bengal: A. K. Fazlul Huq (1873–1962), Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy (1892–1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894–1964). All three men served as the Prime Minister of Bengal in British India and after independence two of them also served as Prime Minister of Pakistan. The monument was designed by architect S. A. K. Masud Ahmad (former Chief Architect, Govt. of Bangladesh) and was established in 1963 during East Pakistan. The style of architecture of the monuments is an interpretation of Islamic Arcs.

Bangladesh Shishu Academy (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ শিশু একাডেমি) is the national academy for children in Bangladesh. It was established in 1976 for promoting cultural development of children, and nurturing their talents.

Dhaka Gate also known as Mir Jumla's Gate or Ramna Gate is a monument believed to be built by Mir Jumla II and enlisted as one of the oldest Mughal architectures in Dhaka. This gate is considered as one of the integral parts of the history of Dhaka.According to the popular belief during the reign of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Dhaka was getting bigger. Mir Jumla constructed the gate as the north entrance of Dhaka ascertaining the northern border of Dhaka with it.The gate was once a remarkable Mughal architecture in capital Dhaka and was used to enter in the city after arriving on the bank of Buriganga River. The gate was probably meant to guard the city from the north from the attacks of Magh pirates. It was severely damaged and was later rebuilt by magistrate Charles Dawes in 1825 AD. It is currently in the University of Dhaka campus area near Curzon Hall and Shishu Academy. One of its three parts is now in the area of Centre for Renewable Energy Research and another part stands inside the premises of Mausoleum of three leaders.

Institute of Statistical Research and Training, popularly known as ISRT, was established in 1964 by a statute of the University of Dhaka. The institute offers 4 years Bachelor of Science (BS) (Honors) and 1-year MS degree in applied statistics. ISRT also offers PhD and M Phil degrees. ISRT organizes training programs in applied statistics, SPSS and STATA for students in various disciplines, professionals, and academicians. The institute is the proud publisher of the Journal of Statistical Research (JSR), a bi-annual international journal in statistical sciences, published since 1970. It is an internationally renowned journal in the field of statistics. ISRT maintains a vibrant academic environment encompassing a rich library with over 20,000 collections, and three state-of-the-art computer labs for graduate and undergraduate students. Qazi Motahar Husain was the founding director of ISRT. M. Shafiqur Rahman is the current director.

Suhrawardy Udyan (Bengali: সোহরাওয়ার্দী উদ্যান) formerly known as Ramna Race Course ground is a national memorial located in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is named after Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. Originally it served as the military club of the British soldiers stationed in Dhaka. It was then called the Ramna Race Course and later Ramna Gymkhana. After the end of colonial rule, the place – sometimes referred to as Dhaka Race Course – was used for legal horse racing on Sundays. It is the resting place of three great national leaders, Sher-i-Bangla A.K. Fazlul Huq (1873–1962), Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy (1892–1963) and Khwaja Nazimuddin (1894–1964). Ramna Race Course was renamed after Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy. A Mughal structure named the Dhaka Gate was built adjacent to the park area of Suhrawardy Udyan. The gate was built by Mir Jumla II in 1660s. The Museum of Independence, Dhaka is situated within the park area. The museum depicts the history of the nation since Mughal tenure to independence in 1971. The museum was opened to the public on 25 March 2015, the 45th Independence Day of Bangladesh.

Kakrail (Bengali: কাকরাইল) is a neighbourhood in Dhaka. It is under Ramna Thana and falls under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South City Corporation. Over time, Kakrail has grown into a mostly residential area, with apartment plots and schools, but subsequently, several NGOs and government offices have been set up there.

The 7 March Speech of Bangabandhu was a historic speech given by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the Founding Father of Bangladesh on 7 March 1971 at the Ramna Race Course (now Suhrawardy Udyan) made in Dhaka to a gathering of over 20 lakh (2,000,000) people. It was delivered during a period of escalating tensions between East Pakistan and the powerful political and military establishment of West Pakistan. In the speech, Bangabandhu informally declared independence of Bangladesh, proclaiming: "The struggle this time, is a struggle for our liberty. The struggle this time, is a struggle for our independence." He announced a civil disobedience movement in the province, calling for "every house to turn into a fortress". The speech inspired the Bengali people to prepare for a war of independence amid widespread reports of armed mobilisation by West Pakistan. The Bangladesh Liberation War began 18 days later when the Pakistan Army initiated Operation Searchlight against Bengali civilians, intelligentsia, students, politicians, and armed personnel. On 30 October 2017, UNESCO added the speech to the Memory of the World Register as a documentary heritage.

On 3 May 2025, Hefazat-e-Islam Bangladesh held a grand rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This event was one of their biggest public shows of strength and marked the second-largest gathering in Dhaka since the 2013 Long March and Siege of Dhaka, which culminated in the Shapla Square massacre. The central themes of the rally included demands for justice regarding the 2013 events, the withdrawal of criminal cases filed against its leadership during Sheikh Hasina's regime, and the dissolution of the Women's Affairs Reform Commission—an initiative introduced by the Yunus interim government following the July Revolution. The group also called for constitutional amendments to reaffirm full trust and faith in Allah while rejecting pluralism, and it criticized the treatment of Muslim populations in India and Palestine. Chaired by Muhibbullah Babunagari, the rally concluded with a 12-point declaration and the announcement of a nationwide protest scheduled for 23 May, along with divisional programs to follow.

Burdwan House, Bardhaman House or Bordhoman House (Bengali: বর্ধমান হাউস or বর্ধমান হাউজ) is a historic building in Dhaka, Bangladesh. It is currently used as the museum of Bangla Academy. Built in 1906 during the British colonial period, this building, deeply associated with Bangladesh's political, cultural, and language movement history, is a notable example of architecture combining Mughal and European styles. Many prominent figures, including Rabindranath Tagore, Kazi Nazrul Islam, and Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, stayed here as guests.
