Armley Park

Christ Church in Armley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England is an active Anglican parish church in the archdeaconry of Leeds and the Diocese of Leeds. The church is one of two Church of England churches in Armley; the other being the larger St. Batholomew's Church. It is a Grade II listed building.

Gotts Park Mansion, formerly known as Armley House, is a Grade II listed country house in Armley Park, 3 miles from Leeds city centre. Formerly the home of industrialist Benjamin Gott, it is now the home of Gotts Park Golf Club. The mansion was built in 1781 for Leeds merchant, Thomas Woolrick. Gott, a wealthy mill-owner, first leased the mansion then bought it in 1812. Gott commissioned Humphry Repton to improve the house and landscape. The mansion was then remodelled, partly to Repton's plan, by Robert Smirke, architect of the British Museum. Thus it became the first Greek Revival house built in West Yorkshire.Gott's descendants lived in the mansion until the 1900s when, in 1903 it was rented by the Leeds Association for the Prevention and Cure of Tuberculosis and in 1904 opened and named The Leeds Hospital for Consumptives. After the end of World War I, it was used as a hospital. In 1928, the building and grounds were taken over by Leeds City Council on a 999-year lease, on the condition that they be used as a leisure space for the people of Leeds. Gotts Park Golf Club opened to the public on 8 April 1933.

Armley Moor railway station was a station on the former Great Northern Railway between Leeds and Bramley. The location was between Carr Crofts and Wortley Road bridges, accessed via Station Road. It served the Leeds suburb of Armley in West Yorkshire, England until closure in July 1966 due to the Beeching Axe. The station was immortalised in 1964 in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann.

Kirkstall power station was a coal-fired unit opened in 1930, serving the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was situated in Kirkstall by the River Aire north west of Leeds and had its own wharf for delivery of coal via the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Dixons Unity Academy, formerly Swallow Hill Community College is an educational secondary school Academy located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It is sponsored by Dixons Academies Trust, having formerly been sponsored by Academies Enterprise Trust (AET). The school became sponsored by Dixons Academies Trust in October 2018, following a negative Ofsted report, and changed its name.

West Leeds High School Specialist Technology College was a mixed comprehensive school located in Armley in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The school had around 1,200 students on roll from ages 11 to 18. The school was replaced with Swallow Hill Community College in 2009, following the merger between two local schools. After 102 years West Leeds High School closed and replaced by Swallow Hill.

Armley is a district in the west of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It starts less than 1 mile (1.6 km) from Leeds city centre. Like much of Leeds, Armley grew in the Industrial Revolution and had several mills, one of which now houses the Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills. Armley is predominantly and historically a largely working class area of the city, still retains many smaller industrial businesses, and has many rows of back-to-back terraced houses. It sits in the Armley ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds West parliamentary constituency. In 2022, statistics released by West Yorkshire Police revealed Armley and New Wortley had the second highest crime rate in Leeds after Leeds city centre.

Wortley High School was a smaller than average secondary school which served an area of high socio-economic deprivation in the Wortley, Armley, and Bramley areas of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, before it merged with local high school West Leeds High School. Before its merger it became an Arts College. The school opened in September 1992 as a replacement for Silver Royd Girls school. It was turned into a high school for both, In June 2009 the school announced it would be closing following a merger with West Leeds High School. The students had their last day on 17 July 2009. In September 2009 Students returned with both sites being Swallow Hill Community College. The site only lasted as Swallow Hill Community College for 2 years between 2009 and 2011. All students moved to the newest built Congress Mount site on 4 July 2011.

St Bartholomew's Church, Armley is a parish church in the Church of England in Armley, West Yorkshire. The church is one of two Church of England churches in Armley; the other being Christ Church. Worship at St Bartholomew's is firmly rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England with a solemn mass being celebrated weekly.

The Armley asbestos disaster is an ongoing health issue originating in Armley, a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Described by Dr. Geoffrey Tweedale as a "social disaster", it involved the contamination with asbestos dust of an area consisting of around 1,000 houses in the Armley Lodge area of the city.The contamination was the result of the activities of a local asbestos factory, part of the Turner & Newall (T&N) group (often referred to by the name of its founders, J. W. Roberts Ltd.) and occurred between the end of the 19th century and 1959 when the factory eventually closed. At its peak the factory had 250 employees. At least 300 former employees are believed to have died from asbestos-related illnesses, and a number of cancer deaths in the Armley area were traced to the factory in 1988 as a result of an investigation by the Yorkshire Evening Post. The estate was found to have the highest incidence in the country of mesothelioma. As the interval between exposure and diagnosis can be up to 50 years the number of further deaths which may occur due to the factory's emissions or residual dust since its closure cannot be predicted.

The Kirkstall Training Ground, historically known as Clarence Fields, is a training facility in Leeds owned by Leeds Rhinos. The training facility is mostly used by Leeds Rhinos and is also used by Leeds Tykes (having originally been the home of their predecessors Headingley RUFC), National Conference League side Milford Marlins and Leeds City College Rugby League team. It was used by Bramley RLFC as their home ground in 1995-96 following the sale of McLaren Field. The ground and the lower floors of the buildings on site suffered significant damage in the Boxing Day Floods of 2015. Whilst the ground was repaired and cleaned, the rugby teams used other venues around the city. Leeds Rhinos manager, Gary Hetherington, suggested that the eventual clean up cost would be £6 million and it would not be until June 2016 at the earliest before the training centre could be used again.

Kirkstall is a north-western suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, on the eastern side of the River Aire. The area sits in the Kirkstall ward of Leeds City Council and Leeds West parliamentary constituency, represented by Rachel Reeves. The population of the ward at the 2011 Census was 21,709.To the west is Bramley, to the east is Headingley, and to the north are Hawksworth and West Park. Kirkstall is around 2 miles (3.2 km) from the city centre and is close to the University of Leeds and Leeds Metropolitan University. Its main visitor attraction is Kirkstall Abbey. Another landmark is St. Stephen's Church designed by the architect Robert Dennis Chantrell. Richard Oastler, a reformer and fighter for children's rights, is buried in a crypt under the church's east end. In the 12th century Cistercian monks founded Kirkstall Abbey, a daughter house of Fountains Abbey in North Yorkshire. The Abbey House Museum opposite the abbey tells the story of the community and the town. Henry De Lacey, Baron of Pontefract, gave the land for the foundation of the abbey, and Kirkstall has a few roads named in his memory. The Abbey Light Railway, which connected the grounds of the abbey with the Bridge Road commercial area, was closed down in 2012.
