Armley

St Bartholomew's Church, Armley is a parish church in the Church of England in Armley, West Yorkshire. The church is one of two Church of England churches in Armley; the other being Christ Church. Worship at St Bartholomew's is firmly rooted in the Anglo-Catholic tradition of the Church of England with a solemn mass being celebrated weekly.

The Armley asbestos disaster is an ongoing health issue originating in Armley, a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. Described by Dr. Geoffrey Tweedale as a "social disaster", it involved the contamination with asbestos dust of an area consisting of around 1,000 houses in the Armley Lodge area of the city.The contamination was the result of the activities of a local asbestos factory, part of the Turner & Newall (T&N) group (often referred to by the name of its founders, J. W. Roberts Ltd.) and occurred between the end of the 19th century and 1959 when the factory eventually closed. At its peak the factory had 250 employees. At least 300 former employees are believed to have died from asbestos-related illnesses, and a number of cancer deaths in the Armley area were traced to the factory in 1988 as a result of an investigation by the Yorkshire Evening Post. The estate was found to have the highest incidence in the country of mesothelioma. As the interval between exposure and diagnosis can be up to 50 years the number of further deaths which may occur due to the factory's emissions or residual dust since its closure cannot be predicted.

Armley Canal Road railway station was a station on the former Midland Railway between Leeds and Shipley. It served the Leeds suburb of Armley in West Yorkshire, England until closure in 1965.

The Leeds Industrial Museum at Armley Mills is a museum of industrial heritage located in Armley, near Leeds, in West Yorkshire, Northern England. The museum includes collections of textile machinery, railway equipment and heavy engineering amongst others. The Grade II* listed building housing the museum was once the world's largest woollen mill. The current structures were built in 1805 by Benjamin Gott and closed as a commercial mill in 1969. They were taken over by Leeds City Council and reopened as a museum of industrial heritage in 1982. It is located between the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and the River Aire and accessed from Canal Road or Milford Place. It is part of Leeds Museums & Galleries, which also includes Leeds Art Gallery, Leeds City Museum, Leeds Discovery Centre, Thwaite Mills, Lotherton Hall, Temple Newsam, Abbey House Museum and Kirkstall Abbey.

Kirkstall power station was a coal-fired unit opened in 1930, serving the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was situated in Kirkstall by the River Aire north west of Leeds and had its own wharf for delivery of coal via the Leeds and Liverpool Canal.

Armley Moor railway station was a station on the former Great Northern Railway between Leeds and Bramley. The location was between Carr Crofts and Wortley Road bridges, accessed via Station Road. It served the Leeds suburb of Armley in West Yorkshire, England until closure in July 1966 due to the Beeching Axe. The station was immortalised in 1964 in the song "Slow Train" by Flanders and Swann.

Christ Church in Armley, Leeds, West Yorkshire, England is an active Anglican parish church in the archdeaconry of Leeds and the Diocese of Leeds. The church is one of two Church of England churches in Armley; the other being the larger St. Batholomew's Church. It is a Grade II listed building.

Wortley ( WURT-lee) is an inner city area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It begins one mile to the west of the city centre. The appropriate City of Leeds ward is called Farnley and Wortley. It was known as Wirkelay until about 1700. Wortley was a weaving township within the parish of Leeds before it became industrial with coal pits, brickworks, railway yards and engine sheds—including a roundhouse, on Wellington Road. This listed building, originally constructed to house a dozen or so steam locomotives, is now the premises of a major commercial vehicle hire company. In the 1880s, Wortley became incorporated into the expanding (then) town of Leeds.Wortley is divided into three areas: New Wortley, Upper Wortley and Lower Wortley.

Leeds West is a borough constituency in the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire which is represented in the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first-past-the-post system of election. The current MP is Rachel Reeves of the Labour Party. With the exception of the Parliament of 1983–87, the seat has been held by Labour since 1945. The seat is due to be abolished for the next general election.

HM Prison Leeds is a Category B men's prison, located at Gloucester Terrace in the Armley area of Leeds in West Yorkshire, England, which opened in 1847. Leeds Prison is operated by His Majesty's Prison Service, and is still known locally as Armley Gaol, the historical name of the prison.

Armley Park is a large public park located next to Stanningley Road in Armley, on the outskirts of Leeds, in West Yorkshire, Northern England. The park stretches from Armley down the hill to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, near the canal the park turns to dense woodland. On its north-west side Armley Park borders Gotts Park, which is designated as a Grade II Park and Garden. It is named after industrialist Benjamin Gott and contains his former home, Gotts Park Mansion, now the clubhouse of Gotts Park Golf Club.Armley Park has many amenities, including football pitches, tennis courts, bowling greens, a children's playground and gardens. There are also several Grade II listed features including the gate piers at the entrance on Stanningley Road, the war memorial, and the fountain and associated plaques. St Matthias' Church is an Anglican church in Burley, Leeds, West Yorkshire. The church was completed in 1854 and the north aisle and west porch were added in 1886. It is a Grade II* listed building.
