The Gold Coast is a coastal city in the state of Queensland, Australia, approximately 66 kilometres (41 mi) south-southeast of the centre of the state capital Brisbane and immediately north of the border with New South Wales. The area was previously occupied prior to European settlement by the Yugambeh language people. The demonym for the Gold Coast is Gold Coaster. With an estimated population of 679,127 in June 2018 (including 79,001 in the adjacent Tweed Valley of New South Wales), the Gold Coast is the sixth-largest city in Australia, Australia's largest non-capital city, and Queensland's second-largest city.The Gold Coast is a major tourist destination with a sunny, subtropical climate and has become widely known for its world-class surfing beaches, high-rise dominated skyline, theme parks, nightlife, and rainforest hinterland. The city is part of the nation's entertainment industry with television productions and a major film industry.

The 2007 Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 11th edition of the Brisbane International, and was a Tier III event on the 2007 WTA Tour. It took place in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, from 31 December 2006 through 6 January 2007. Second-seeded Dinara Safina won the singles title and earned $25,840 first-prize money.

2008 Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts

The 2008 Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts was a women's tennis tournament played on outdoor hard courts. It was the 12th and final edition of the Mondial Australian Women's Hardcourts, which was renamed and relocated to Brisbane, and was part of the Tier III Series of the 2008 WTA Tour. It took place in Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia, from 31 December 2007 through 5 January 2008. Unseeded Li Na won the singles title and earned $28,000 first-prize money. This was the last edition of the tournament in Gold Coast, Queensland. In 2009 the women's tournament was merged with the men's tournament and became the Brisbane International.
