Festival Imperial is a major Costa Rican music festival organized by Cerveceria Costa Rica and their flagship beer: Imperial. The first festival took place in April 2006 and brought world-known performers such as Sting, Jamiroquai, Diego Torres, and The Rasmus. The second edition of the festival was held in April 2008 and featured: Duran Duran, Incubus and Smashing Pumpkins among others. Initially the festival was going to take place every two years, but on 2010 the organizers announced there was not going be a Festival Imperial that year due to sanitary reasons (AH1N1 Virus) and the world economic crisis. On December 15, 2011 Cerveceria Costa Rica announced that, after four years of absence, the third edition of the Festival Imperial would take place on March 24 and 25 wil. The event will take place at the Autódromo La Guácima, a racetrack located in Alajuela, 20 minutes away from San José as it did on previous occasions.

The National Technical University (Universidad Técnica Nacional) (UTN), was founded on 4 June 2008 as the fifth public university of Costa Rica. INCAE Business School (an acronym for Instituto Centroamericano de Administración de Empresas, English: Central American Institute of Business Administration") is an international business school located at the Francisco de Sola campus in Nicaragua and the Walter Kissling Gam campus in Costa Rica. The school was founded with the assistance of professors from Harvard Business School in 1964. Although INCAE is independent, it adheres to the Harvard's case study method. The case study method allows students to examine past and current business situations, which gives them two years' worth of indirect, real-world experience across industries and regions. The case study method offers students the opportunity to step into the shoes of managers, critique their decisions and provide alternative solutions. While the majority of cases are translations from Harvard Business School case studies, INCAE students are additionally provided with emerging market studies from Latin America. INCAE offers a 2-year MBA in Costa Rica and a 15-month intensive MBA in Nicaragua. Other programs include the Executive MBA and seminars. The Financial Times has ranked INCAE as a top global MBA program and The Wall Street Journal has ranked INCAE Business School as one of the top 10 international business schools in the world.

Alajuela (Spanish pronunciation: [alaˈxwela]) is a district in the Alajuela canton of the Alajuela Province of Costa Rica. As the seat of the Municipality of Alajuela canton, it is awarded the status of city. By virtue of being the city of the first canton of the province, it is also the capital of the Province of Alajuela.Because of its location in the Costa Rican Central Valley, Alajuela is nowadays part of the conurbation of the Greater Metropolitan Area. The city is the birthplace of Juan Santamaría, the national hero of Costa Rica and the figure who gives the name to the country's main international airport, which is south of Alajuela downtown.

Juan Santamaría International Airport (Spanish: Aeropuerto Internacional Juan Santamaría) (IATA: SJO, ICAO: MROC) is the primary airport serving San José, the capital of Costa Rica. The airport is located in the city of Alajuela, 20 km (12 miles) west of downtown San José. It is named after Costa Rica's national hero, Juan Santamaría, a drummer boy who died in 1856 defending his country against forces led by American filibuster William Walker. The airport is a hub for Avianca Costa Rica, Costa Rica Green Airways, Sansa Airlines, and Volaris Costa Rica and a focus city for Copa Airlines. It was the country's only international gateway for many years, but now there is also an international airport in Liberia, Guanacaste. Both airports have direct flights to North and Central America and Europe, but Juan Santamaría International Airport also serves cities in South America and the Caribbean. Juan Santamaría International Airport was once the busiest airport in Central America, but is currently second after Tocumen International Airport in Panamá. In 2016, Juan Santamaría International Airport received 4.6 million passengers (international and domestic). In 2011, the airport was named the 3rd Best Airport in Latin America - Caribbean from the Airport Service Quality Awards by Airports Council International.

Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center, formerly Rescate Animal Zoo Ave, is an urban park of approximately 14 hectares (35 acres), located in La Garita, in the canton of Alajuela, Costa Rica. It has an average altitude of 814 meters and is bounded to the north by the bed of the river Rio Poas. The site includes the largest collection of bird species in Latin America.It is administered by a conservation nonprofit foundation called Fundación Restauración de la Naturaleza, which also is responsible for the country's largest rehabilitation center in the Rescate Wildlife campus.

The Diocese of Alajuela (Latin: Dioecesis Alaiuelensis) is a Latin Church ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in Costa Rica. It is a suffragan diocese in the ecclesiastical province of the metropolitan Archdiocese of San José de Costa Rica. The Diocese of Alajuela was erected on 16 February 1921.

The Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral de Nuestra Señora del Pilar ) also called Alajuela Cathedral or Cathedral of Virgin of the Pillar, is a religious building affiliated with the Catholic Church, which is located in the city of Alajuela, the second largest in the Central American country of Costa Rica.It is a temple that follows the Roman or Latin rite and is the mother of the Diocese of Alajuela (Dioecesis Alaiuelensis) which was created in 1921 by bull "Praedecessorum Nostrorum" of Pope Benedict XV. The current building has its origins in a small chapel built in 1782 not far from its current location. A new structure designed by Gustavo Casallini began to be built in 1854 but was stopped shortly after due to war so the opening and consecration was delayed until 1863. Between 1946 and 1967 he was subjected to intense remodeling.
