Balmain Hospital Main Building is a hospital building and former cottage in Balmain, Inner West Council, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It was the original building of and remains the administration building for the Balmain Hospital. It was designed by E. J. Bowen and built in 1880. It is also known as the Administration Building, and includes the Evans Ward and the Victoria Ward. The property is owned by the NSW Department of Health. It was added to the New South Wales State Heritage Register on 2 April 1999.

It was founded in 1885 and provides outpatient, rehabilitation, aged care and general practice/casualty services.The hospital commenced operation in 1885 in an adapted cottage, which survives as the hospital's administration building and is now heritage listed. A series of additions and new buildings occurred throughout its early decades: a new wing (the Evans Ward) opened in March 1890, a new outpatient, women's and children's wing (the Victoria Ward) opened in September 1901, it underwent major refurbishment in 1908 and a new children's ward opened in September 1924.It expanded significantly in the 1920s, increasing from 40 beds to 120 beds and experiencing a doubling of treated patients. Complaints about run-down, overcrowded and otherwise poor hospital facilities were common through the late 1920s and into the 1930s. New women's and children's wards opened in 1935 and new nurses quarters' (Stacey House) in 1937. A major new four-storey building, Thornton House, was added in 1943.The hospital underwent a significant downgrade and refocus c. 1993, with the closure of the emergency department and change in focus to provide primarily for aged care and rehabilitation, though a new casualty department opened shortly afterwards to deal with remaining unmet need.The Balmain Hospital Main Building is listed on the New South Wales Heritage Register.

Workers from the nearby Booth's Saw Mill and later Lever and Kitchen, were regular patrons at the hotel.The building is now a private residence but retains a sign with the words The Kent on the front veranda as a reminder of its historic past.

The Volunteer Hotel was a pub in the suburb of Balmain in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The pub is named because of its association with a group of volunteer firefighters. The fire bell was located across the road in Darling Street and when it rang, the volunteers would gather and proceed on to the fire. Once their work was complete, they would meet at the hotel for refreshment. The hotel was established before November 1865.The hotel closed in 1928 and from 1930 was the location of Mrs Riley's confectionery shop. It is now a private residence.

It employed many people from the local area and its large industrial buildings were a prominent feature of the landscape. Most of the site was demolished in 1996 to make way for an apartment complex, and only three of the original buildings remain.

The Star Hotel was a pub in the suburb of Balmain in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The pub is located near the entrance to Mort's Dock and in 1902, the Ship Painters and Dockers Union took up a 'moveable office' at 95 Mort Street, next to the Star Hotel and undoubtedly supplied trade to the establishment. The license and name were transferred in 1930 to the pub now known as The Cat and Fiddle Hotel on Darling Street. The building became a residential and commercial unit in 1994.

The former pub was one of a number of buildings which formed an integral part of the shipbuilding and industrial heritage of the local area.The pub featured as a film location for the cult motorcycle bikie movie Stone (1974). The building has been occupied by various businesses since it closed in 1972 and has extensive water views onto Mort Bay. Recently, it has been used for private housing. An early publican of the hotel was Edward McDonald.
