Simon's Seat

Skyreholme is a hamlet in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England. It lies 1-mile (1.6 km) east of Appletreewick, in the small side valleys formed by Skyreholme Beck and Blands Beck, which meet in the hamlet to form Fir Beck, a short tributary of the River Wharfe. Parcevall Hall is at the north end of the hamlet, and Skyreholme Beck flows through the limestone gorge of Trollers Gill just to the north. The toponym, first recorded in 1540, is of Old Norse origin, from skírr "bright" and holmr "water-meadow", and so means "bright water-meadow". Skyreholme was historically in the township of Appletreewick in the large ancient parish of Burnsall in the West Riding of Yorkshire. In the early 19th century the hamlet had a substantial population (234 in the 1841 census). The main industry was a cotton and calico mill. To serve this population a chapel of ease was built in 1837. The chapel closed in 1897, but from 1867 the building was also used as a school, which continued until 1967. The village is home to Parcevall Hall, a grade II listed building which has 24 acres (9.7 ha) of gardens with plants from around the world.

Parcevall Hall -- also known as Parceval Hall -- and its gardens are located at Skyreholme near Appletreewick village, Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England. It features a Grade II* listed manor house and landscaped gardens. Currently owned by Walsingham College and leased by the Diocese of Bradford, it is used as a retreat house and conference centre.The gardens comprise 24 acres (97,000 m2) of displays, featuring trees and shrubs and herbaceous borders. They are the largest and the only Royal Horticultural Society and English Heritage registered gardens open to the public in the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Created from 1927 onwards they began falling into decline after 1960 following the death of Sir William Milner, 8th Baronet of Nun Appleton. In the mid 1980s, the gardens began to be restored; a process which spanned 25 years. The gardens are open to the public from April to October.

Trollers Gill is a limestone gill or gorge in North Yorkshire, England, close to the village of Skyreholme and 4.7 miles (7.5 km) south-east of Grassington in the Yorkshire Dales (grid reference SE068619). The gorge, which is 0.5 miles (0.8 km) in length, is also known as Trollerdale.

Appletreewick is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England, 6.5 miles (10.5 km) north-east of Skipton, 7 miles (11 km) from Skipton railway station and 16 miles (25.7 km) from Leeds Bradford International Airport. Appletreewick is in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, a popular place for visitors, especially in the summer months, on the banks of the River Wharfe.The civil parish includes the hamlet of Skyreholme and the western end of the village of Greenhow. The parish also includes Parcevall Hall, Stump Cross Caverns, the eastern part of Grimwith Reservoir and extensive areas of moorland north and east of the village. Barden Fell is a grouse moor belonging to the Bolton Abbey Estate, and Simon's Seat is a prominent rock outcrop to the north of Barden Fell. The civil parish had a population of 218 at the 2011 Census.

The Cavendish memorial fountain is a drinking fountain erected in 1886 at Bolton Abbey, North Yorkshire, England as a memorial to Lord Frederick Cavendish following his murder in Phoenix Park by the Irish National Invincibles in May 1882. The fountain is a Grade II listed building.

Barden Tower is a ruined building in the Parish of Barden, in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England. The tower was used as a hunting lodge in the 15th and 16th centuries, and despite a renovation in the 1650s, it fell into disrepair in the 18th century. The tower is now part of the Bolton Estate and is listed as a medieval fortified tower. Along with other buildings on the Bolton Estate, it is a focal point and many people visit the tower. It is also a way marker on the 100-mile (160 km) Lady Anne's Way long distance path.

Barden is a civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. It consists of the hamlet of Drebley and a few scattered houses in Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales. The parish also includes two areas of moorland, Barden Fell to the east of the River Wharfe and Barden Moor to the west of the river. Both moorlands are access land, and are popular with walkers. Barden Fell rises to the prominent peak of Simon's Seat, and Barden Moor includes two scenic 19th century reservoirs. Much of the parish is on the Bolton Abbey estate.The parish is sparsely populated. At the 2011 Census the population of the civil parish was less than 100, and the census statistics for the parish were therefore merged with those of the adjoining civil parish of Hazlewood with Storiths. In 2015, North Yorkshire County Council estimated that the population of the parish was 90.Barden is derived from the Old English berdene, and means the valley where the barley is grown.

Bolton Abbey in Wharfedale, North Yorkshire, England, takes its name from the ruins of the 12th-century Augustinian monastery now known as Bolton Priory. The priory, closed in the 1539 Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII, is in the Yorkshire Dales, next to the village of Bolton Abbey. The estate is open to visitors, and includes many miles of all-weather walking routes. The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway terminates at Bolton Abbey station one and a half miles/2.5 km from Bolton Priory.

Bolton Priory, whose full title is The Priory Church of St Mary and St Cuthbert, Bolton Abbey, is a Grade I listed parish church of the Church of England in Bolton Abbey (village), within the Yorkshire Dales National Park in North Yorkshire, England. There has been continuous worship on the site since 1154, when a group of Augustinian canons moved from their original community in nearby village of Embsay and started construction of the present building, which is now situated within a scheduled monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979. Despite the loss of most of the Priory buildings during the Dissolution of the Monasteries, the western half of the original nave was preserved so that the local parish could continue its worship there. There is today a full liturgical calendar, although a programme of other events, which formerly included the Bolton Priory Celebrity Organ Recitals, the Bolton Priory Mystery Play and the Bolton Priory Live Nativity, is now reduced to the Bolton Priory Concert Series and the annual St Cuthbert lecture. The Priory is a member of the Greater Churches Network, and pre-Covid welcomed more than 160,000 visitors a year.

Bolton Abbey is a village and civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England, 22 miles (35 km) north-west of Leeds. The village lies in Wharfedale, near the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and just north of the border with West Yorkshire. The village takes its name from the monastery now generally known as Bolton Priory, and is adjacent to the Bolton Abbey Estate, which includes the priory ruins and extends beyond the parish. The church of Bolton Priory is now the parish church of Bolton Abbey. Bolton Abbey railway station lies 0.6 miles (1 km) south west of the village, just outside the parish boundary. The parish had a population of 111 in the 2011 census.

Hazlewood with Storiths is a civil parish in the Craven district of North Yorkshire, England. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 191.

Hazlewood is a hamlet in the English county of North Yorkshire. Hazlewood lies to the east of the town of Skipton by 7.5 miles (12.1 km) and is located some two miles east of (across the River Wharfe from) Bolton Abbey.
