Bandyup Women's Prison is located in the northeastern rural Perth suburb of West Swan, Western Australia. Prior to its construction, the female prisoners were at Fremantle Prison, which was overcrowded and offered women limited opportunities. Bandyup Women's Prison holds sentenced and remand prisoners of all security classifications. It is run as a maximum security prison though only 10% of the women are categorised as maximum security. Bandyup Women’s Prison is one of two prisons in the Perth Metropolitan area for women on remand or that have been sentenced. Melaleuca Women’s Prison was built in 2016, as a standalone facility, built on what was previously Units 11 and 12 of Hakea Prison in Canning Vale, Western Australia. The prison is inspected every three years by the state Office for the Inspector of Custodial Services.

St. Mary's Church is an Anglican church on Yule Avenue in the suburb of Middle Swan, Western Australia. St. Mary's was built in 1868 on the site of an earlier church which had been built there in 1838. The church is part of the Anglican Diocese of Perth. The church and graveyard overlook the Swan River in the Swan Valley district. The church can seat 150 people and is open by appointment only.

Swan Christian College is a non-denominational, co-educational Christian primary and secondary school located in the Swan Valley of Western Australia. The college has over 1,500 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Swan Christian College is part of the Swan Christian Education Association (SCEA), and a member of the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia (AISWA).

Sandalford Wines is a privately owned Australian winery business based at Caversham, in the Swan Valley, the focal point of the Swan District wine region of Western Australia. Sandalford owns and operates wineries and vineyards both in Caversham and at Wilyabrup, in Western Australia's Margaret River wine region. The company traces its origins back to 1840, when John Septimus Roe, the first Surveyor-General of the Swan River Colony, was granted 1,250 acres (510 ha) on the banks of the Swan River by Queen Victoria, in recognition of his services to the colony.In the same year, Captain Roe planted Western Australia's first vines at the property, which he named Sandalford after an estate owned by his family on the site of a priory built in 1066. However, winemaking only became a commercial venture at Sandalford after World War II; until then it had been a hobby and a sideline.Sandalford now also makes the wines marketed under the brand name "Element".

The Swan Valley is a region in the upper reaches of the Swan River between Guildford and Bells Rapids, Western Australia. It is bordered to the east by the Darling Scarp. Both Ellenbrook and Jane Brook lie within the region and discharge into the Swan River. There are seven suburbs within the region: Baskerville, Belhus, Caversham, Henley Brook, Herne Hill, Millendon and West Swan. It is part of the City of Swan local government area. The Swan Valley Australian Geographical Indication is a sub-region of the larger Swan District wine region. Swan Valley was registered on 6 January 2003 following Swan District being registered on 10 December 1998.

Middle Swan is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, and forms part of the City of Swan local government area. The suburb is bordered to the west by the Swan River. The suburb is most notable for its various wineries, including Nikola Estate that was once known as Houghton and Sandalford. It also has the Midland brickworks within its boundaries, as well as an accommodation facility (Swanleigh Residential College, which closed in 2010) for country students attending the Governor Stirling Senior High School and Swan Christian College.

West Swan is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located in the City of Swan local government area. It lies west of the Swan River, and east of the former Caversham Motor Racing Circuit. The suburb is traversed by the West Swan Road, one of the main routes in the Swan Valley winery area. At the 2016 Australian census the suburb had a population of 899.

Dayton is a suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located in the City of Swan. It was gazetted in May 2011, and was named after Walter Warner Day, a pioneer of both the cattle and wine-growing industries in the City of Swan. The suburb is part of the City of Swan's Urban Growth Corridor and is bounded by Lord Street, Harrow Street, Malvern Street, Reid Highway and the Dampier to Bunbury Natural Gas Pipeline. The suburb is located in the Swan Valley Ward of the City of Swan.

Viveash is an eastern suburb of Perth, Western Australia, in the City of Swan. It was named after Samuel Waterman Viveash, the owner of the land in this area in the 1840s. He came to the Swan River Colony on Britomart, which sailed from Spithead on 3 July 1838 and arrived at Fremantle on 5 December 1838, and took up land in the Avon Land District. A copy of Viveash's diaries for the period 1838 to 1851 can be accessed at the University of Western Australia Library. The suburban area of Viveash was developed by Midland Brick, which carried out subdivision in 1967, and requested in 1968 that the area be named after Viveash.

La Salle College is a Roman Catholic co-educational secondary school in Middle Swan, Western Australia, an eastern suburb of Perth. It caters for approximately 1400 Year 7-12 students, including about 40 Aboriginal boarding students from regional and remote Western Australia.

The former Swan District Hospital was a general public hospital in Middle Swan, in Perth's north-eastern suburbs. The hospital had an emergency department, 193 beds, and also provided outpatient services. It closed on 24 November 2015 following the opening of the Midland Health Campus.

Caversham Airfield, also known as Middle Swan Airfield was an airfield constructed at Caversham, Western Australia during World War II as a parent aerodrome for use by the Royal Navy's Fleet Air Arm and the United States Navy.The airfield had a triangle of three landing strips.Middle Swan was the parent airfield with the following satellite airfields: Beverley Bindoon Gingin North MooliabeeneeThe United States Army Air Corps also utilised the airfield during World War II. It was also a gliding club location after the war.
