Loch Bhac

The Tummel hydro-electric power scheme is an interconnected network of dams, power stations, aqueducts and electric power transmission in the Grampian Mountains of Scotland. Roughly bounded by Dalwhinnie in the north, Rannoch Moor in the west and Pitlochry in the east it comprises a water catchment area of around 1,800 square kilometres (690 square miles) and primary water storage at Loch Ericht, Loch Errochty, Loch Rannoch and Loch Tummel, in Perth and Kinross. Water, depending on where it originates and the path it takes, may pass through as many as five of the schemes nine power stations as it progresses from north-west to south-east. The scheme was constructed in the 1940s and 50s incorporating some earlier sites. It is managed by SSE plc.

Loch Tummel (Scottish Gaelic: Loch Teimheil) is a long, narrow loch, seven kilometres (4+1⁄2 miles) northwest of Pitlochry in the council area of Perth and Kinross, Scotland. It is fed and drained by the River Tummel, which flows into the River Tay about 13 km (8 mi) south-east of the Clunie Dam at the loch's eastern end.The loch is traversed by roads to both north and south. Along the northern side the road is numbered as the B8019, and runs from the Pass of Killiecrankie on the A9 in the east to Tummel Bridge at the head of the loch. The road on the southern side is unclassified, and meets the A9 further south, near to Pitlochry.The loch gives its name to the Loch Tummel National Scenic Area (NSA), one of 40 such areas in Scotland, which are defined so as to identify areas of exceptional scenery and to ensure its protection by restricting certain forms of development. The Loch Tummel Lyon NSA covers 9,013 hectares (22,272 acres), all of which lies within Perth and Kinross. The NSA covers the hills surrounding the loch, and extends along the River Tummel to also take in the area surrounding the Pass of Killiecrankie on the River Garry.

Struan is a small village in Perthshire in Scotland. The name derives from sruthan, the Gaelic for 'Little Stream'. It is 8 km west of Blair Atholl.It is near the confluence of the River Garry and the Errochty Water, and just south of Calvine.

The Falls of Bruar are a series of waterfalls on the Bruar Water in Scotland, about 8 miles (13 kilometres) from Pitlochry in the council area of Perth and Kinross. They have been a tourist attraction since the 18th century and were immortalized in a poem by Robert Burns, The Humble Petition of Bruar Water to the Noble Duke of Atholl, supposedly from the river itself entreating the Duke to plant some trees in the then barren landscape.

Calvine is a hamlet in Perth and Kinross, Scotland.It is sandwiched between the A9 road, to its north, and the Highland mainline railway and River Garry, both to its south, and lies just north of Struan and west of Pitagowan. The Falls of Bruar are one mile to the south-west. The former route of the A9, now the B847, runs through the settlement. The hamlet is known for the Calvine UFO sighting, which occurred nearby, in 1990.

Struan railway station served the village of Struan, Perthshire, Scotland from 1863 to 1965 on the Inverness and Perth Junction Railway.

Black Island Platform railway station, Blair Atholl, Perth and Kinross, Scotland, was located at an area known as the Black Island beside the River Garry. The station was used during WWII by forestry workers and was not open for use by the general public. Standing on the old Inverness and Perth Junction Railway route it lay 36 mi 16 chains (58.3 km) from Perth railway station.

The River Garry (Scottish Gaelic: Gar / Abhainn Ghar) is a major tributary of the River Tummel, itself a tributary of the River Tay, in the traditional county of Perthshire in the Scottish Highlands. It emerges from the northeastern end of Loch Garry (56.8193°N 4.2311°W / 56.8193; -4.2311 (River Garry, source)), just to the southeast of the Pass of Drumochter, and flows southeastwards and eastwards down Glen Garry to the narrow Pass of Killiecrankie beyond which it joins the Tummel (56.7182°N 3.7790°W / 56.7182; -3.7790 (River Garry, mouth)). Loch Garry itself is fed by the Allt Shallainn, Allt na Duinish and Allt na Cosaig which enter its southern end. The loch occupies a deep northeast-southwest aligned trench cut by glacial action. Glen Garry provides the main route northwards for both the A9 road and the railway from Perth to Inverness.

Farragon Hill (782 m) is a peak in the foothills of the Grampian Mountains of Scotland. It lies above the town of Aberfeldy in Perthshire. The hill is the highest point in the area of rough moorland that lies between Aberfeldy and Loch Tummel.

Meall Tairneachan (787 m) is a mountain in the Grampian Mountains of Scotland, located northwest of Aberfeldy in Perthshire. The peak lies in an area of rocky and rolling moors between Loch Tummel and Aberfeldy. A baryte mine is located close to its summit.

Old Blair is a tiny village of 18th century stone houses in Perth and Kinross, Scotland, adjoining and overlooking the grounds of Blair Castle. It is the site of St Bride's Kirk, the original church of Blair Atholl parish. This probably early Christian foundation was replaced by a new building in Blair Atholl village in the 19th century. There are substantial remains of the unroofed original church, set within an unwalled graveyard, though its western tower has been removed. The ancient building is flanked on the south side by a 'laird's aisle' of 16th century date, which encloses several monuments of the family of the Dukes of Atholl. John Graham of Claverhouse, 'Bonnie Dundee' (d 1689) is also buried in the vault below the aisle. The modern burial ground of the ducal family lies within railings beside the mound on which the church is set. The main medieval road north through the Central Highlands of Scotland formerly passed through Old Blair and on through Glen Banvie to the Minigaig Pass. It was in use up to the 18th century. The 'village street' of Old Blair was built on either side of it.

Blair Castle (in Scottish Gaelic: Caisteil Bhlàir) stands in its grounds near the village of Blair Atholl in Perthshire in Scotland. It is the ancestral home of the Clan Murray, and was historically the seat of their chief, the Duke of Atholl, though the current (12th) Duke, Bruce Murray, lives in South Africa. The castle stands in Glen Garry, and commands a strategic position on the main route (now the A9 road) through the central Scottish Highlands. The castle is a category A listed building, and the grounds are included in the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.
