West Tilbury

The Kings Head Pub is a grade II listed pub in the conservation area of West Tilbury, in the Thurrock district, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. The pub closed in 2015 and in May 2016 Punch Taverns sold the pub, as part of their corporate strategy, to housing developers. An Asset of Community Value order has been placed on The Kings Head by Thurrock Council, offering protection against any housing development.

The church of St James is a grade II* listed former parish church in West Tilbury. It is constructed from flint and rubble and was restored by W Benton. It contains remnants of Early Norman windows. There is an elaborate memorial in the chancel to Lady Gordon and to her husband, the reverend Sir Adam Gordon (3rd Baronet) who was rector from 1796 to 1817.

Low Street railway station was on the Tilbury loop line segment of the London, Tilbury and Southend line, at a level crossing near the villages of West Tilbury and East Tilbury, Essex. It was situated between East Tilbury and Tilbury Riverside stations and was 24 miles 16 chains (38.95 km) down the line from London Fenchurch Street station via Tilbury.It was opened in 1861 and closed on 5 June 1967. Low Street was not on the 1963 list of passenger stations to be closed under the Beeching cuts.A through goods loop was located on the down line to the north of the station, this closed on 29 September 1964. There were also sidings associated with gravel workings south and east of the station.

Biggin is a hamlet and manor in Chadwell St Mary, part of the borough of Thurrock, in the ceremonial county of Essex, England. It is about 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the town of Tilbury and a similar distance east of Grays. The name can be spelled Byggin, Bigging or Begging. In some sources it is called Little Biggin. From the 13th century until the dissolution, the manor was owned by the Cistercian Abbey of Stratford Langethorne. The manor was then granted to the Dean and Chapter of St Paul's Cathedral.For transport there is the A126 road, the A1089 road and the B149 road nearby. The nearest railway station is Tilbury Town railway station.

Chadwell St Mary is an area of the unitary authority of Thurrock in Essex, England. It is one of the traditional (Church of England) parishes in Thurrock and a former civil parish. Grays is 2 miles (3.2 km) to the west and 1 mile (1.6 km) to the south is Tilbury. The area is sometimes referred to simply as Chadwell, particularly before the 19th century.

The Church of St Mary is a Church of England parish church in Chadwell St Mary, Thurrock, Essex. The church is a Grade I listed building. Together with Emmanuel Church, it forms the Parish of Chadwell St Mary in the Diocese of Chelmsford.

East Tilbury railway station is on a loop line of the London, Tilbury and Southend line, serving the village of East Tilbury, Essex. It is 25 miles 7 chains (40.4 km) down the line from London Fenchurch Street via Rainham and it is situated between Tilbury Town and Stanford-le-Hope. Its three-letter station code is ETL. It was opened on 7 September 1936 as a halt station intended to serve workers at the nearby Bata Shoe Company, which paid for the construction of the platforms. Initially, trains only stopped in rush hour. The halt was upgraded to full station status in January 1949. Increasing patronage at East Tilbury led to the closure in 1967 of Low Street, a minor station close by. East Tilbury is on a link known as the Tilbury Loop, which joins the main line at the London end at Barking and at the country end at Pitsea. The station and all trains serving it are operated by c2c. It is located close to Coalhouse Fort, an artillery fort dating from the 1860s.

Linford Wood is a 3.5-hectare (8.6-acre) Local Nature Reserve in East Tilbury in Essex. It is owned and managed by Thurrock Council.The site has mixed woodland, a willow plantation, hedges, ditches and an open area. Birds include tawny owls, great spotted woodpeckers and green woodpeckers. It is part of the proposed extended Thurrock Thameside Nature Park.There is access from East Tilbury Road.

The Tilbury power stations were two thermal power stations on the north bank of the River Thames at Tilbury in Essex. The 360 MW dual coal- and oil-fired Tilbury A Power Station operated from 1956 until 1981 when it was mothballed, prior to demolition in 1999. The 1,428 MW Tilbury B Power Station operated between 1968 and 2013 and was fueled by coal, as well as co-firing with oil and, from 2011, biomass. Tilbury B was demolished in 2016–19. Since 2013 three other power stations have been proposed or constructed in Tilbury.

The Gateway Academy, formerly The Gateway Community College, is a coeducational academy secondary school in Grays, Essex, England. It became an academy in 2006 under the sponsorship of the Ormiston Trust after Thurrock Council was unable to find the resources to provide a new building. It was previously a successful fresh start school which was created from two failing secondary schools; Torells School in Grays and St Chad's School in Tilbury. It is currently a part of The Gateway Learning Community (GLC) but has retained its Ormiston sponsorship.Although the school's address falls under Grays in actuality it is located between, and primarily serves, Chadwell St Mary and Tilbury. The school was previously located across two campuses, the old Torells School site and St Chad's School site in Grays and Tilbury respectively. On 17 June 2008 the school relocated to a new £38 million campus, shaped as a "G", which is where the school is currently located today. The school used to have a sixth form which closed in 2014 and currently hosts The Gateway Primary Free School which opened in 2012. The school has also operated a free summer school since 2011 which serves Year 6 and Year 7 students.

The Bata shoe factory in East Tilbury is what remains of an industrial estate in Essex, England, which produced shoes for over 70 years. Founded in 1932 by Tomáš Baťa, the factory was "one of the most important planned landscapes in the East of England" in the 20th century. The factory closed in 2005.

Bill Meroy Creek is a small waterway flowing into the Thames to the east of Tilbury Fort in West Tilbury which from 1851 marked the eastern boundary of the area in which duty had to be paid on coal entering London.
