Athens is a village in Greene County, New York, United States. The population was 1,586 at the 2020 census. The village is named after the classical city of Athens. It is in the eastern part of the town of Athens, across the Hudson River from the city of Hudson.

The Hudson–Athens Lighthouse, sometimes called the Hudson City light, is a lighthouse located in the Hudson River in the state of New York in the United States. The light is located between Hudson and Athens, closer to the Hudson side. Constructed in 1874, it marks a sandy ridge known as Middle Ground Flats and also acts as a general aid to navigation of the river. The station is built on a granite caisson with a unique shape designed to protect it from ice floes and river debris. The dwelling is constructed in the Second Empire architectural style, with a mansard roof. It is considered to be virtually a twin of the Stepping Stones Light in Long Island Sound, which was constructed just a few years later.

Sleepy Hollow Lake is both a recreational lake and residential community (and census-designated place) in Greene County, New York, United States, located 120 miles north of New York City and 28 miles south of Albany in the Hudson River Valley. The lake is a two and one-half mile long, 324 acre, 70 foot deep man-made, Class “A” drinking water reservoir for the neighboring communities. It is surrounded by a 2,200 acre residential community, also known as “Sleepy Hollow Lake”, which is a Planned Unit Development (PUD) that self-governs residential land use, maintains common roads, parks, beaches, and other recreational facilities, operates most of the development’s sewer and water services, and provides community security and code enforcement. The community is within the viewshed of the Taconic Mountains to the east and the Catskill Mountains to the west. Oliver Wiswall House is a historic home located at Hudson in Columbia County, New York. It was built about 1836 and is a 2+1⁄2-story, L-shaped brick dwelling with a low pitched hipped roof in the Greek Revival style. The north elevation has porch with four Doric order columns and a dentilled cornice. Also on the property is a garage dated to the 1930s.It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.

The Brick Row Historic District in the village of Athens, New York is a small row of brick row houses that were built as apartments for the workers of the booming clay mining industry in the late 19th century to early 20th century. The row houses are found on Brick Row St. off route 385 just north of the village of Athens. The rows are close to the Hudson River. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.
