Bivens Arm is a body of water in Gainesville, Florida. Located west of U.S. Route 441 and south of Archer Road, it is a part of Paynes Prairie. Bivens Arm is a small shallow lake covering approximately 189 acres (76 ha) in southwest Gainesville. Bivens Arm is a unique environment, which supports a wide diversity of plant and animal life in an urban setting. Tumblin Creek, which is fed by small springs and seeps, drains into Bivens Arm and is the primary source of drainage into the lake. Bivens Arm overflows onto Paynes Prairie and eventually discharges to the aquifer via Alachua Sink.

UF Health Shands Cancer Hospital is an academic cancer center in Gainesville, Florida. The 200 bed complex focuses on producing basic laboratory findings that will ultimately be used for preventive therapies for cancers.

The University of Florida College of Medicine is the medical school of the University of Florida. It is part of the J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center, with facilities in Gainesville and Jacksonville, Florida. The school grants Doctor of Medicine (M.D.), Doctor of Medicine-Doctor of Philosophy (M.D.-Ph.D.), and Physician Assistant (P.A.) degrees to its graduates. Its primary teaching hospital is UF Health Shands Hospital with which the school shares a campus in Gainesville.

The Helyx Bridge, unofficially dubbed the DNA Bridge, is a pedestrian and bicycle overpass located in Gainesville, Florida. It crosses over U.S. Route 441 (US 441).

P. K. Yonge Developmental Research School is a K-12 public laboratory school of the University of Florida, in Gainesville, Florida, United States. The student population, selected by lottery, mirrors the demographics of the school-age population of the State of Florida.

The Evelyn F. and William L. McKnight Brain Institute (MBI) at the University of Florida (UF) is a comprehensive and diverse neuroscience research center that houses the UF College of Medicine’s four “neuro” departments: neuroscience, neurology, neurosurgery and psychiatry. The MBI is one of the nation’s most comprehensive and technologically advanced centers devoted to discovering how the normal brain operates, and how we can repair the brain following injury, disease or aging. The MBI connects and supports over 200 faculty from all 16 UF colleges with research focus areas that include brain cancer; breathing research and therapeutics; chronic neurological diseases (such as Parkinson’s, dystonia, ALS and Alzheimer’s); cognitive aging; mental health, neurobehavioral sciences and psychiatry; and traumatic brain injury and spinal cord injury. The MBI was the first of the four McKnight Brain Institutes across the U.S., named in honor of a gift from the McKnight Brain Research Foundation. Dr. Todd Golde is the current executive director of the MBI. Former executive directors include founding director Dr. William Luttge, Dr. Douglas Anderson, Dr. Dennis A. Steindler and Dr. Tetsuo Ashizawa.

Cancer and Genetics Research Complex at the University of Florida is an interdisciplinary research center. The goal of this facility is to harness the faculty & researchers from varying departments at the University of Florida to make exciting new discoveries, and to transfer cutting edge technology to the marketplace. The Complex also houses the UF Genetics Institute (UFGI), the UF Health Cancer Center, the UF Interdisciplinary Center for Biotechnology Research, and the C.A. Pound Human Identification Laboratory, an internationally known laboratory for research and consulting in forensic anthropology.

The Emerging Pathogens Institute (EPI) is an interdisciplinary research institution associated with the University of Florida. The institute focuses on fusing key disciplines to develop outreach, education, and research capabilities designed to preserve the region's health and economy, as well as to prevent or contain new and re-emerging diseases. Researchers within the institute work in more than 30 different countries around the world, with over 250 affiliated faculty members stemming from 11 University of Florida colleges, centers, and institutes. The 90,000-square-foot building includes laboratories and collaborative space for bioinformatics and mathematical modeling.

The University of Florida Health Science Center (HSC), also known as the J. Hillis Miller Health Science Center, is the medical division of the University of Florida. Its primary campuses are located on the university's main campus in Gainesville, Florida and at UF Health at Jacksonville in Jacksonville, Florida. The Health Science Center comprises six colleges: Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health Professions, and Veterinary Medicine. The Gainesville campus is the only academic health center in the United States with six health-related colleges located on a single, contiguous campus.In 2018 the Health Science Center generated over $410 Million in total research awards, and also collected over $22 Million in licensing and royalties The HSC is affiliated with UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville and UF Health Jacksonville. As of 2019 the Health Science Center enrolls 7,010 students within the six HSC academic colleges. In addition the HSC employs over 2,400 Faculty Members, over 24,000 staff members, and over 1,200 fellows and residents.

The Malachowsky Hall for Data Science & Information Technology, or simply Malachowsky Hall, is a building on the University of Florida (UF) campus. Named after UF alumnus and Nvidia co-founder Chris Malachowsky, the building began construction in 2020 and opened in November 2023. It houses spaces for several of the university's colleges and departments including the College of Engineering, the College of Pharmacy, and College of Medicine, as well as the Informatics Institute, part of UF Research.

Norman Hall Tunnel (also known as the 13th Street Underpass or 13th Street Tunnel) is a multi-use path tunnel on the campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. The tunnel connects the east and west side of 13th Street (U.S. Route 441), connecting Norman Hall and the main campus of the university. The tunnel is a well known site for graffiti art and photographers.The tunnel has been opened to the public since at least 1957.Since at least 2014, the Norman Tunnel has been criticized for its dated design (only worsened by alleged lackluster maintenance), resulting in collisions between pedestrians and cyclists going through the tunnel.It is one of two pedestrian/cycling crossing not at-grade with 13th Street, with the other being the Helyx Bridge about a quarter mile to the south.

Norman Hall (originally known as P. K. Yonge Laboratory School) is a historic academic building on the eastern campus of the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. It was designed by architect Rudolph Weaver in the Collegiate Gothic style, and built in 1932. It originally housed the university's research and development primary and secondary schools, but now is the principal building of the university's College of Education. It is located on U.S. 441, near the southwest corner of S.W. 3rd Avenue and S.W. 12th Street in Gainesville. On January 26, 1990, it was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
