The Autocar Sales and Service Building, at 2745 Locust in St. Louis, Missouri, was built in 1917. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2006.It was designed by St. Louis architect Preston J. Bradshaw. It is a two-story brown brick concrete-framed curtain wall building. It includes Classical Revival details.

Central Baptist Church in St. Louis, Missouri was founded as the Second African Baptist Church in 1846.Early pastors were Reverend Richard Sneethen, (1846-1847) and Reverend John Richard Anderson, (1847-1863). The church has an executive pastor and seven associate pastors.The church celebrated its 170th anniversary on March 4, 2016, with an event where the guest speaker was Reverend Dr. Jerry Young, President of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. The church membership in 2016 was about 1,500, with about 750-900 attending services weekly. Its senior pastor from 1999 to 2016, Reverend Dr. Robert C. Scott, left in 2016 to head an even larger congregation in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The Banneker School is a historic building and former public school active from 1940 to 2005, at 2840 Samuel Shepard Drive in the Midtown neighborhood in St. Louis, Missouri. For most of its time it served as a Black school, and it housed the Banneker District Headquarters. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 2017, for its contributions to education, social history, and African American ethnic heritage from 1957 until 1970. Other Banneker District schools listed on the National Register of Historic Places include the Carr School (1419 Carr Street), the Franklin School (814 North 19th Street), and the Pruitt School (1212 North 22nd Street).

The YWCA, Phillis Wheatley Branch in St. Louis, Missouri is a building dating from 1927. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.The branch was founded in 1911 and named for Phillis Wheatley, the first African-American poet. It was only the fifth YWCA for African-Americans. The YWCA was a center of intellectual life in the Mill Creek Valley neighborhood. The Fisk Jubilee Singers performed at Wheatley in 1916, and W.E.B. Du Bois gave a lecture in 1922. Maya Angelou, Mary McLeod Bethune and Butterfly McQueen all visited or stayed in the YWCA's hotel rooms.The building was constructed in 1927 for the St. Louis Women's Christian Association, also known as the Women's Christian Home, which was first organized in 1868. In 1941 they sold the building to the YWCA.

The Unitarian Church of the Messiah was a church at 508 North Garrison Avenue at the corner of Locust and Garrison Sts. in St. Louis, Missouri, USA and was the third church of the St. Louis congregation of Unitarians, founded in 1835. It was designed by noted Boston-based architects Peabody & Stearns in the Late Victorian style and constructed in 1880 by Charles Everett Clark, one of Peabody & Stearns longtime contractors. The exterior walls were constructed of locally quarried blue limestone with a tawny colored sandstone quarried from Warrensburg, Missouri. The interior walls were faced with buff brick from the Peerless Brick Company of Philadelphia, among other materials. The original roof was made of red slate. The congregation's first pastor William Greenleaf Eliot initially proposed its construction in January 1877 and commissioned Peabody & Stearns in 1878. The congregation purchased the plot of land in 1879. Ground was broken in November 1879, and the cornerstone laid February 1, 1880. The first service was held on December 26, 1880 with the official dedication on December 16, 1881. It was designated a St. Louis City Landmark in 1977 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980. A fire in January 1982 caused by squatters living in a basement storage room gutted the structure, leading to its eventual demolition in 1987. Because of its demolition, it was removed from the National Register in 1994.Ernst R. Kroeger served as organist at the church.

The Scott Joplin House State Historic Site is located at 2658 Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis, Missouri. It preserves the Scott Joplin Residence, the home of composer Scott Joplin from 1901 to 1903. The house and its surroundings are maintained by the Missouri Department of Natural Resources as a state historic site. The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places and designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark in 1976.

Peacock Alley was one of St. Louis's most important jazz clubs in the 1950s. It was located in the former Mill Creek Valley neighborhood at 2935 Lawton Boulevard (the street no longer exists). It was close to Union Station, so it was favored among musicians due to the proximity. The venue was initially opened in 1944 in the basement of Midtown Hotel as the Glass Bar. In 1955, the Glass Bar was remodeled and renamed to Peacock Alley. Some sources report that it was located in Gaslight Square, although this is incorrect. It attracted performances from Miles Davis, John Coltrane, the Chet Baker Quartet, J.J. Johnson, Max Roach, Kai Winding, Art Blakey and many others.It closed in the 1960s.

The St. Louis Coliseum was a venue in St. Louis, Missouri. The closing of the 1904 World’s Fair left the city without a convention center for three years. A group of businessmen led by attorney Guy Golterman assembled $450,000 in private funding, and built the Coliseum at Washington and Jefferson Avenues. It was designed by Frederick C. Bonsack and occupied a full block. When the cornerstone was laid on August 22, 1908, it was claimed the building would be the largest public building in the United States. It replaced the St. Louis Exposition and Music Hall as the city's main convention and big entertainment center. Golterman was the Secretary to the Company and first manager of the Coliseum. Colonel Pickering managed it for some time. The building accommodated the 1916 Democratic nominating convention, wrestling and boxing matches, trade shows, and musical extravaganzas. Enrico Caruso performed in the Coliseum twice: first with the Metropolitan Opera Company in April 1910 and again in May 1919, giving a concert for Liberty Loans. Lack of parking, the emergence of neighborhood swimming pools, and Kiel Auditorium, which opened in 1934, effectively ended the usefulness of St. Louis Coliseum. It was closed in 1939, and it was condemned as unsafe by the city in 1953.

Mill Creek Valley was a historic neighborhood located in the central corridor between 20th Street and Saint Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. European settlement began in the 18th century with mills established along La Petite Rivière, now known as Mill Creek. It became an industrial and railroad center in the 19th century. Union Station was opened in 1894. The building was closed in 1978 and renovated for commercial use. Also a residential and commercial center, Mill Creek Valley was populated by German immigrants and African Americans, before and after the Civil War. More people moved into the area during World War II to support the war effort. An urban renewal project of the late 1950s razed most of the residential dwellings, commercial buildings and churches. Although the intention was to establish a prospering commercial and residential area, the Saint Louis University and Harris–Stowe State University (HSSU) command much of the former Mill Creek Valley land. Notable residents include Lucy A. Delaney (c. 1828–1830 – 1910), who wrote about winning her suit for freedom and became a community leader. Also, General William Tecumseh Sherman (1820–1891) who served the Union Army during the American Civil War, and Josephine Baker (1906–1975), an American-born French entertainer, French Resistance agent, and civil rights activist. Another was Erskine Oglesby (1937–2004), an American tenor saxophonist and blues singer.

The Locust Street Automotive District in St. Louis, Missouri is a historic district which was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005 and expanded twice, in 2008 and 2016. The original area included 26 contributing buildings on 11 acres (4.5 ha), at 2914-3124 Locust and 3043 Olive. The first increase extended the district to the west, adding nine contributing buildings on 3 acres (1.2 ha) at 3133-3207 and 3150-3202 Locust St. The second increase extended the district to the east, adding 2722-2900 Locust St. and 2727-2801 Locust St.The district includes works by Preston J. Bradshaw and by Albert B. Groves.

Washington Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church is a religious organization and historic church building in St. Louis, Missouri, U.S.. The building originally housed the United Methodist Episcopal Church. It is one of the few surviving examples of Gothic Revival churches in St. Louis. It has been listed as one of the National Register of Historic Places since 2005, for the architecture.

Chestnut Valley was an African American section of St. Louis centered on Market Street, Targee Street (named for Thomas Targee who was killed fighting the 1849 St. Louis fire), and Chestnut Street. It existed from the late 19th century serving steamship workers plying their trade on the Mississippi on into the 20th century. These were segregated eras. Chestnut Valley was a font of ragtime music development with Tom Turpin's Rosbud Café from 1900 to 1906 succeeding venues and later his brother Charles H. Turpin's Booker T. Washington Theatre. Mill Creek Valley, home to Scott Joplin and Josephine Baker, was adjacent. Union Station was nearby. The theater closed in 1930 and the area, also known for gambling, bars, and brothels, was demolished in mayor Joseph Darst slum clearance urban renewal program. Missouri Governor Forrest Smith signed the Municipal Land Clearance for Redevelopment Law in 1951, providing state aid for urban renewal programs in Missouri cities. Expressways replaced the Pine Street Hotel, Peoples Finance Building, and other area buildings. Near a train station the area was home to the Calumet Hotel. Trebnor Tichenor wrote the "Chestnut Valley Rag" in 1963 in commemoration of the area.
